Fledglings flapping and flying in February - the Flylady thread

Hello all and welcome to the February Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others Smile.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks so much for doing the December and January threads Cotsowold.

We are in zone 5 for the first few days of the month.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

I can't figure out how to post the individual missions (I will get better, I hope!) so as a treat here is the sneak peak for the rest of the week which has all the missions www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Feb 1st's mission is to clean our vents!!

If you have already decluttered then you could start some detailed cleaning www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-5/

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread Smile. Sometimes the Flylady website takes a little while to catch up on a new month.

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

I'll post the baby step and Wednesday's daily focus next.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/02/2017 17:17

foxes very impressive baking a cake at all with a grumpy baby! zoo, well done at 6RBCs Star. Cag, at least you got some tidying done, shame friends couldn't come. Blue, hope all of this is making sense? Mercury, very difficult with crawling baby yes, especially with 3DC I would imagine! Afresh, I am always impressed with how much you get done with 4DC! Wing flaps to everyone else!

Well dinner is made but haven't got to cupboard or decluttering in bedroom or ironing yet. DD had a major tantrum and bit me Sad she has never done that before , needless to say she was in serious trouble. She has now apologised and we've made up but what a rubbish afternoon! Dh is home thank goodness so I don't have to battle dinner time on my own with two over tired grumpy children!

My throat and ear are still really hurting. What is this weird virus we've all got?! I feel really run down.

Sorry. I've been doing nothing but moaning on here of late!

Right. Off to have dinner now and then get these children to bed as soon as possible!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/02/2017 19:39

Foxes Flowers. Moan away. Hope you get your DC to bed (or at least DD) and get a mini rest.

Ta da:-
Bedtime nearly done (two very tired children as DD1 had a late after school activity).
5 mins decluttering. I cheated a bit and stayed in zone 3 and did our spare room
/ study. It is looking loads better of late (one of the easier rooms clutter wise as we actually have adequate storage in there) and we have visitors staying this weekend so trying to get it a bit better.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/02/2017 22:22

foxes, was just posting quickly earlier - rubbish end to the day for you but I hope DD wakes up in a happier birthday mood for you. Biting is so hard to deal with - DD2 has bitten DD1 before :( Flowers

Here is the daily summary for Wednesday...

All information also available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. The

flight plan
should update every day.

We are in Zone 4 this week: the master bedroom and en-suite if applicable

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here

Spend 15 mins (or what you can manage) decluttering in Zone 4.

The mission for today is to go through your make up and bin anything which is too old (she doesn't give any guidance as to how long things should be kept for in the mission but I'm sure a quick google search can tell you how long to keep make up).

The daily focus for Wednesday is: anti-procrastination

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Daily reminders:

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Baby-step no 22 - keep building your control journal Newbies, I don't specifically have a control journal. I know people have success with bullet journals although they are a different thing really. I have an app called home routines which I love. Flylady has some kind of cozi Flylady app which I don't understand if you can set up a paper control journal as explained in the babysteps.

Flykids challenge: Today we are going to go into our rooms and gather up things that don't belong. Things like, water bottles, cups, glasses, snack wrappers (you know all those things that you are not supposed to have in there!) Let's set a timer for 5 minutes and get to it.
Throw away what needs to be tossed and return the things to the other rooms in the house where they belong. Have you "borrowed" anything like scissors or glue that needs to be returned? Make today a put away kind of day.

Ready? Set? GO!

Happy flying!

Good luck tomorrow Purple and happy birthday to foxes' DD for tomorrow!

Hope you're feeling better soon foxes.

Yes is all starting to make sense thanks Grin Nope, won't be signing up to the emails, that is another aspect of my life that is already too cluttered!

So my first Ta das!

Ironing all done
Hoovered
Kitchen cupboards tidied and old stuff thrown out, just one shelf left to do which will be my aim tomorrow.
Half of the tops of the cupboards cleared
Breakfast stuff out ready for morning.

Bathroom got left as made some cakes with DD instead Grin
Also the pile by the kettle remains (knew it would!) but I did do lots of decluttering on the cupboards so am counting that instead!

BluePheasant · 21/02/2017 22:57

Just realised I'm not anywhere near being able to follow the daily missions atm, but enjoying reading them as gives me ideas for what else can be done. Feeling motivated already!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/02/2017 23:07

I usually don't do the missions either Blue Blush.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 22/02/2017 01:09

Just take from it what you want Blue nobody has to follow it exactly as FlyLady says! Lord knows I don't! Blush :o

Sorry about the biting foxes it's horrible when kids just switch like that. Tomorrow is a new day, hope she has a fab birthday!

Managed two washes today, dryer is on and I hung a few bits on the airer. Main achievement was writing a difficult blog post TBH, haven't done much else except giving the Caglets a bath and prepping a marinade for the freezer. Although the honey doesn't appear to have arrived with the shopping so I substituted some sugar instead. Hmm

Busy day tomorrow - another pupil in the morning, then geography club, then heading to mum's as we're seeing the Nutcracker! Yippee!

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/02/2017 05:08

Happy birthday little fox hope she has a lovely day
cag enjoy the nutcracker

Must get up
Cats trying doorhandle see anyone's awake yet. It's very windy here so i need let poor thing in and feed him(and his brother)

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/02/2017 05:09

Oh and purple got fingers legs and eyes crossed that your interview goes well.xx

PurpleDaisies · 22/02/2017 07:33

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I slept terribly and so tired I feel sick this morning but I'm hoping adrenaline will carry me through. Another two suitable jobs came up this morning and I'm waiting to hear about one where the deadline was yesterday so even if this isn't the one I'm sure there'll be others.

I should be home by 130pm so I'll decide about cleaning vs sleeping then...

Cagliostro · 22/02/2017 08:56

Best of luck purple!

Autocorrect changed 'best' to 'beatbox' 😕

Sweepingchange · 22/02/2017 11:39

Hope it is going well Purple and great that there are some plan b's available too, as that will hopefully give you confidence! Good luck!

Sorry to hear that you are feeling grim again Foxes; constantly broken sleep makes you susceptible to every bug going Flowers

Afresthstart >" Me and four DC up fed dressed and out for 840 " I still think this is one of the most impressive achievements on the thread!!! Smile [doffs hat]

Speaking of getting out/getting up in the morning - agree with Toostressy and everyone else - the day is lost if I am not up and dressed early. Particularly as I am the sort of lazy person who could quite easily spend an entire week under the duvet reading books and eating toast - so I have to rule myself with a rod of iron on this point. And the continentals start very early anyway. So I always make sure I am up and properly washed and dressed (blow dryed and minimal slap) for when dd exits the front door, which at the moment is 7.40 am. Otherwise, if I was still in my pjs and dressing gown when she departed, and I turned back in to quiet dark old house, I just know what would happen ... . A furry four-footed one who hurls himself at the front door while casting longing looks at his harness also helps on this front! Grin

Mercury thank you for bun condolences down thread - v kind of you - she was a stellar rabbit Sad Smile Can't believe your little one is crawling already! Sounds as if you have your hands full there! Smile

Cotswold hope your dd is feeling a bit better now. There are so many lingering lurgies about this winter and earache is the pits.

Expansive wing flaps to eveyrone else!

So much to do atm, I have that "rabbit in headlights" feeling. We are heading off to wreck2 for an entire week (half term) in a few days and have so much to get done in that time I am going a bit bonkers. Not helped by the fact that my on-line supermarket delivery arrived this morning, and while I was stacking a load of frozen food in to freezer drawers, two of the drawers broke. Plastic far too flimsy! So fed up of expensive products that are not fit for purpose or have in-built obsolescene!!

Anyway, I know I should be grateful I have a freezer and food to put in it so I shall stop whinging and carrying on. Think a long "organising" list is called for ... .

Have a productive day everyone!

Sweepingchange · 22/02/2017 11:40

PS Cag meant to say - glad you have your doc's letter at last - hope it does the trick

Sweepingchange · 22/02/2017 11:45

Foxes happy birthday to your little one (sorry, obviously got the day wrong down thread)

And ah ..those are party rings - thanks for the explanation Toostressy!

Bluepheasant hope it is going ok, suggest start with baby-steps and 15 mins decluttering per day in current zone and take it from there and deffo adapt system to suit your own schedule/house. Good luck!

Arf at Zoocats trying the door handle Grin

Right, must stop procrastinating on here, need to get stuff done [whimpers]

Sweepingchange · 22/02/2017 11:48

sorry, can't spell obsolescence!!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/02/2017 13:09

Hello all, am at work on a long day, back later.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 22/02/2017 13:37

SC I confused people because her party was at the weekend but her actual birthday is today Smile

Thanks for all the birthday wishes she is having a great day so far including a trip to McDonald's for lunch! She was a bit stroppy this morning but fine now. Think it's her age! Thanks the sympathy re the biting. She did seem to understand it was very very wrong. She was upset when she saw the mark on my arm and I think that's good because she is quite a caring little girl really. My throat is a little better today but still feeling pretty under the weather. I've so had enough of this illness now!

Flying wise all I've done is empty the dishwasher, take the rubbish out and tidy up wrapping paper. dh has emptied the nappy bin. Going to do a bit more this afternoon while dd plays with new toys.

Hope everything going well purple
