Fledglings flapping and flying in February - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/01/2017 10:27

Hello all and welcome to the February Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others Smile.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks so much for doing the December and January threads Cotsowold.

We are in zone 5 for the first few days of the month.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

I can't figure out how to post the individual missions (I will get better, I hope!) so as a treat here is the sneak peak for the rest of the week which has all the missions www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Feb 1st's mission is to clean our vents!!

If you have already decluttered then you could start some detailed cleaning www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-5/

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread Smile. Sometimes the Flylady website takes a little while to catch up on a new month.

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

I'll post the baby step and Wednesday's daily focus next.

Thread leading not leasing!

PurpleDaisies · 20/02/2017 20:41

foxes dh came home with chocolate cake. Maybe he's been reading my posts! sweeping sorry to hear about your bunny. Small and furries are such lovely pets. Gp is doing well thanks-he gave us a real fright on Sunday but he's back to his normal self now. He was trotting around the kitchen with his three lady friends in a little train this evening.

I didn't get as much done, as usual, but dinner was nice (spicy bean burritos), the kitchen and the dishwasher is on. I've also got the gin open in an unusual Monday night treat.

toostressy you've done a great job with thread. Thanks so much for keeping us on track.

Cagliostro · 20/02/2017 20:47

Hi SC nice to see you! Sorry things are so challenging.

Not a very productive day here but I did collect a doctors letter (in support of our housing application) and I did something (if I may say so myself) very brave and started using a walking stick. Eeeek. It's not a permanent feature hopefully, it's a lightweight folding one so it can stay in my bag when I don't need it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/02/2017 21:33

Nothing wrong bit extra support cag
toostressy no complaint here you doing a grand job!!as I can't negotiate simple copy and paste on fb I am afraid ut would be epic fail I tried lead thread!!
sc exciting times. But let's not have any name calling please.you are not stupid fir miscalculating.I would be permanently in corner with dunces cap if I was called to order over my yeh dinner in 5 20mins later zoolets chew table legs foods ready Grin
Also loving idea triage laundry!!
foxes love party rings and any type cake
purple had laugh idea gp and his lady friends forming a little train trotting in kitchen.cute doesn't cover it.gotta love pets!!
I forget what else I've read(head like sieve)waves to everyone

Tadas
Made ginger cake for friend
Pick up zoolets
Play frustration with lil zoo as promised (I swear she can control popomatic.I never get a 6much when she plays!!Grin)
Dinner made
Pots washed
Watch crap TV and wondering if a Garibaldi will cut the mustard when I want chocolate cake....

Sweepingchange · 20/02/2017 22:34

Thanks Toostressy I know I haven't been on here much this month but from what I have seen your thread leading has been exemplary, as was Cotswold's before you! Smile Congrats on your long Flying list too!

Purple your gp sounds like such a character! V glad to hear he is doing ok!

Afresh still very much in awe of how much you get done with four dcs!

Foxes I don't know what a party ring is (nosy emoticon) but it sounds delicious! And can't believe you are weaning your ds already!! Where did the time go?? Shock

Cag I know it is a totally different thing, but if it is any consolation, when my back was liable to give way at any moment, I hobbled about with a stick, except the only one that I found useful/tall enough was a grabber thing inherited from my late ma. It was very reassuring to have it with me even though I looked like I was-employed by the local council to pick up litter-- Grin. Hope you find yours similarly reassuring and don't give a stuff about what others think, if its helpful, its helpful and that's that Flowers

Still I have a hankering for Garibaldi and ginger cake now!

Waves to everyone else and all newcomers too!

G'night all!

CotswoldStrife · 20/02/2017 23:14

Did I hear Party Rings mentioned

Fab thread leading this month Stressy, although I do like the idea of leasing it as well. Assuming no-one else is interesting in leasing/leading the thread over the next couple of months, if you do March I'll do April Grin but please don't let this statement stop anyone from having a go!

It's not often I criticize anyone on this thread, but a garibaldi is not a fitting substitute for choc cake zoo Hmm Don't make me get the pointy stick out to improve snack choices

Sorry about the bun SC, we do get attached to our little furry family members. Glad that you are enjoying the project even if it is not going entirely according to plan.

I am not sure how tomorrow will pan out as DD may be getting an ear infection - I'm using the nasal drops which fought it off last time and hoping. She has had a cold off and on for weeks so it shouldn't be a surprise really, but I thought we were over the worst of it.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/02/2017 23:34

SC en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_ring

Ok, thanks all, will carry on. I can do March then but if anyone else wants to please do! foxes, I wasn't sure what I was doing either but have basically just copied what SC, Grey and Cotswold told me to do! Most of my posts are copied and pasted from Cotswold's stuff so we can always send you that if you ever did want to lead / lease Grin.

Cag, of course SC and zoo are right. The stick sounds like a sensible decision and very handy if it will fold in your bag. Cotswold, hope your DD feels better soon. Purple, I have a brilliant image in my head of your guinea pigs on a little train in your kitchen eating party rings Grin.

I am very late (for me) doing this tonight as lost hours trying to book a holiday cottage online. Is for the summer holidays and they were booking up as fast as I could put in our details and it was too late to phone up to book. So have lost two hours with no booking made. I do realise that we are lucky to be planning a holiday in the first place so am trying to reframe the whole thing. We have a few other ideas now so will be on the computer first thing in the morning trying to book and if not we are going to sit down tomorrow night before the phone lines close and make a list of options. So there is hope for progress!

Did at least do before bed routine first. Going to do links then off to bed.

Here is the daily summary for Tuesday...

All information also available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. The

flight plan
should update every day.

We are in Zone 4 this week: the master bedroom and en-suite if applicable

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here

Spend 15 mins (or what you can manage) decluttering in Zone 4.

The mission for today is:
We are going to move into the Master Closet today! Spend 15 Minutes decluttering the top shelf of your closet. I am sure you will find things up there you have forgotten all about. If you can't get to the top of your closet, take that 15 minutes and declutter what is keeping you from that shelf.

The daily focus for Tuesday is: planning. I have still not looked at this!!!

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Daily reminders:
reminders

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Baby-step no 21 - check the ‘Ask Flylady’ section of the website where she answers questions

Flykids challenge is the same as yesterday:
We are going to do what is called a Hot Spot Fire Drill!
This is when we look around our rooms at the flat surfaces of our furniture. The desk, the dresser and the nightstands. These are the places that we will just pile things on instead of throwing them away or putting them away. These are the Hot Spots.

To help us clean these places up we are going to do a Fire Drill. We are going to set a timer for 5 minutes and see how much and can throw away and put away off of those Hot Spots.

Ready.. set.... GO!

Your rooms will look and feel less messy when those flat surfaces are neat.

Happy flying.

Hi can I join in? Have only just come across these threads and I need motivation! Have been on a desperate bid to declutter and organise my house for what seems like years now and I just don't seem to get anywhere. It really gets me down at times. The house looks absolutely fine after a quick tidy up to the untrained eye but under the surface there are the horrors of all the stuff shoved under the beds, hallway, porch, airing cupboard, on top of wardrobes....

We are always losing things because the clutter builds up and it's driving me mad! I have decided the only way I am going to beat this is to tackle it in very small bits at a time. Previously I would try and sort a whole room but there are constant interruptions and it inevitably ends up worse than when I started.

Today I tidied up three kitchen cupboards and that felt good Smile

Tomorrow's goal is to do the rest of the cupboards, and hopefully on top of the cupboards too. Not quite sure when the tops of the kitchen cupboards became a gathering place for clutter, prob because everywhere else was full, it looks awful! Wine rack and vases can stay, any other stuff needs a home out of sight or its going! If I get time there's also the pile of random crap that is permanently next to the kettle, but that's probably being too optimistic! Hmm

Now to read back on these threads! I so want to stop the faffing and get productive!

MercuryRising · 21/02/2017 07:13

Hi SC sorry to hear about your rabbit I know how much you love your animals.

Fingers crossed your dd avoids developing an ear infection Cotswold. Dd suffered with repeated ear infections when she was younger but has thankfully outgrown them. We spent many nights trying to soothe her.

Welcome BluePheasant

Yesterday I managed to:
Clean the bathroom
Get 2 washloads done
Dry some washing on the line Grin
Some ironing
Dust downstairs
Some decluttering in the bedroom

My plans were slightly derailed by ds2 who is now crawling. He managed to pull the hoover cable so hard that the wire in plug came loose and it stopped working. He is full of mischief now he is mobile. I had forgotten how hard it is to keep anything clean with a mobile baby about! I second what SC said foxes I think it is amazing how much you get done with 4dc since going from 2 to 3 I feel like the workload has increased massively.

I need to do a clothes shop for ds2 today but also need to try and get some flying done before returning to work tomorrow.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/02/2017 07:16

Hello all. Welcome BluePheasant. Got up early to book the holiday online and the system crashed (I am not the best with technology) so have achieved nothing. Will have to phone the company later if it still doesn't work.

Ta da:-
All up and dressed

To do:-
Everything else.

I have earache now too Sad one ear and my throat making it really hard to swallow. Is this the mystery virus people are talking about? Or maybe just the end of my cold. I've had this cold or whatever it is for two weeks now I'm getting fed up with it! Sorry for starting the morning by grumbling. I've made a coffee and had some painkillers so hopefully that will help a bit. Dh has told me to go to the doctors but if it's viral they won't be able to do anything. Think I'll see how it goes this morning and I can ways go this afternoon.

Anyway. Dd not up yet so enjoying five minutes peace.

To do
Pick up a few groceries that I forgot with the food shop oops
Clean top shelf in bedroom
Declutter in bedroom
Daily routine
Ironing

DS was very grumpy yesterday so I'm hoping for a better day today!

foxessocks · 21/02/2017 07:54

Sorry welcome blue I'm not ways this moany (I hope!)

foxessocks · 21/02/2017 08:07

Can tell I'm sure half asleep. Is DD actual birthday tomorrow (weekend was just her party) so we also have to :

Wrap presents
Decorate living room with some balloons when she has gone to bed
Make another cake (promised her a smarties cake, not sure what I was thinking tbh we already have enough cake!!)

foxessocks · 21/02/2017 08:07

Gah. Still half asleep. So many typos sorry.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/02/2017 08:52
Cagliostro · 21/02/2017 09:03

Welcome Blue!

Morning all I got up at 8 today as have pupils through the day and have a bit more tidying up to do. Not that I've actually started it yet but still. I am awake.

BluePheasant · 21/02/2017 09:47

Thank you for the welcomes! Gradually getting up to speed with the thread and had a little browse on the Flylady website.

First thing I've realised is I'm guilty of not getting dressed early enough on Tuesdays. Tuesdays have become a bit of a lazy as it's my day off and we don't need to leave the house until 11 for DDs activity so I've got in the habit of not getting us out of our pjs until about 10 and can see now how it means I don't get as much done before we go out! Then. Y the end of the day I feel like I've wasted it. So that is the first habit I'm changing!

So this morning we are both fully dressed (!!)
Washing machine on
Dishes done and put away
Cleaned sink
Swept kitchen floor
Duvets folded back and windows open to air.
(Thinking this at the very least will be my routine for tues mornings)
Also tidied one more kitchen cupboard Grin

To do

Ironing Sad
Clean bathroom
Hoover stairs
Tidy the other kitchen cupboards
Sort out clutter on top of cupboards

Also going to try and do the 15mins declutter on the pile by the kettle, all sorts of bits and bobs have accumulated!

PurpleDaisies · 21/02/2017 10:00

blue I am exactly the same with getting dressed in the mornings. For me it's not even just Tuesdays! When I was ill (ME) one of my official targets was to be up, showered and dressed by 9am and it was so helpful. Not that I felt like doing much when I was up but I don't have that issue any more-it's just laziness on my part.

Today I've been to vet (having to be up for something was great) for a routine check and am currently in McDonald's...

To dos
Food shop
Buy hay
Nice lunch with a friend
More crochet
Deal with the box of junk
Send cv to supply agencies

Afreshstartplease · 21/02/2017 11:42

Gosh I feel behind today as this is my first post!

zoo I have had itchy ears yes and itchy roof of mouth, ears are still achey and throat was sore in the night too. It seems to have been going on for ages

Welcome blue

Thanks to those reminding me to give myself a break when doing myself down over the mess! Big two DC are back at school now so hopefully I'll be more productive

Ta Da So Far

Me and four DC up fed dressed and out for 840
Pets cleaned out
Bin empty
Picked up bits from shop
Sent few important emails

Cagliostro · 21/02/2017 11:56

I struggle with this too, now that we don't have school runs any more (for newbies - the Caglets are home educated). We have activities to get up for and I have tuition pupils sometimes but I'm lucky that DH works lates most days so he gets up with them.

I was up at 8 and although I wasn't fully dressed until I had to be (pupils at 10) it did help.

More tidying to do this afternoon

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/02/2017 12:12

Hi everyone, I absolutely find the key is getting dressed. When DDs were small I had a shower the night before otherwise I would find it so hard to find the time to get in the shower and get dressed. I have also started getting dressed to exercise clothes too even if I know I won't be doing anything till later as it is much easier to just do it then and not use the excuse of having to get changed Hmm.

Blue, the website has loads of info and is well worth a look but rather disorganised in places. I must warn you that if you sign up for the emails you will get lots and lots and lots of them. The website has quite a good getting started bit. We also link to the beginner babysteps on this thread.

This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow the flylady system as closely or loosely as works for each of us. I actually find the most motivating bit is just posting my lists (I am on a similar exercise thread), regardless of whether I am truly following flylady or not. I joined in September.

It is a little awkward to find but if you use the site map on the flylady website there are links to flying in lots of different situations.

Will be back on with proper personals later.

DD2 and I have been very busy this morning! Ta da:-
Booked holiday Smile - phoned up and spoke to an actual person who took my booking in 10 minutes Smile.
Amazon basket filled to check and then order tonight
Went to bank - while I was there used a tip I read somewhere on MN and got loads of pound coins as constantly need them for school etc - feel organised now with a change pot
Nipped to shop (although forgot one thing grr - didn't check fridge before we went)
Bought flowers for friend
Exercise DVD
One load laundry

To do:-
Shower
Lunch
More laundry
Empty dishwasher
Check to do list
Bake cakes with DD2 (packet mix - I am a terrible cook)
Pick up DD1 later - late pick up from school today so we are going to get a snack tea ready for her when she gets home

An hour ago I found out I have a job interview tomorrow. I am in minor panic mode now given that I thought I'd have plenty of time to revise some skills I haven't used in ages and find something to wear. Eek!

I guess the worst that happens is I don't get it and it's good practice for later interviews. It would be good to find something, if only so that I don't have to fill in any more soul destroying job applications!
