Fledglings flapping and flying in February - the Flylady thread

Hello all and welcome to the February Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others Smile.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks so much for doing the December and January threads Cotsowold.

We are in zone 5 for the first few days of the month.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

I can't figure out how to post the individual missions (I will get better, I hope!) so as a treat here is the sneak peak for the rest of the week which has all the missions www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Feb 1st's mission is to clean our vents!!

If you have already decluttered then you could start some detailed cleaning www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-5/

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread Smile. Sometimes the Flylady website takes a little while to catch up on a new month.

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

I'll post the baby step and Wednesday's daily focus next.

Wow that's amazing about the house move and decluttering! Great stuff! 🌟

We have the Morrisons meal deal although eating it tomorrow instead as DH is on late shift today. Well the main/side anyway, dessert is mine today as it's got gluten in it and DH is coeliac. Suppose I might let the Caglets have some...

foxessocks · 14/02/2017 19:07

toostressy m&s chocolate on my list to try, don't think it has palm oil which is good.

Ta das
Decluttered in DS room, got rid of loads of clothes that don't fit him and put all his new stuff away nicely
Sorted some photos in the album
Put a few things on our computer desk away but didn't get much done as it was time for DD to go to bed

To do
Have our dinner and relax!

FoolandFitz · 14/02/2017 20:59

I don't like milk chocolate, only dark chocolate but I can only manage 3 squares of a bar a day because of the intensity of it. I do have it everyday though after my evening meal. It's just enough to hit the spot.

More ta-das
Wash away
Clothes ready for tomorrow
Bags ready for tomorrow
Breakfast bowls/spoons/cups all ready for tomorrow
Washing up has been put away
Living room tidied
Ocado order edited for tomorrow's delivery

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/02/2017 21:14

Annoyinglyhappy, great to have you back and great news about new house and decluttering.

Well I am having a romantic Valentine's here... just sent DH to collapse as he is exhausted as he had to work last night then went out shopping and got a dine in meal for tonight plus cooked DC tea including batch cooked some pasta sauce which is now in freezer. So I have taken pity on him and said I'll wash up and do rest of evening routine and I expect he'll be asleep soon.

I am enjoying the cava and am going to get started in the kitchen. Will be back to do personals and links later.

Ta da:-
Clean laundry put away
Washed DDs' coats as they were filthy after fun park
Pasta sauce in freezer
Amazon order with party bag stuff and a couple of presents for DD2's bday arrived
DD1 reading book

To do
Dishwasher and tidy kitchen
Laundry
Before bed routine
If time... deal with some paper clutter

I should add I am not a monster and he has had time in the day to sleep!

I'm sure you're not stressy

So, I've been doing this thing where I am touching/picking up stuff as few times as possible. So for example, washing: take the washing to the dining room table to fold, move out of the way to eat/do homework, fold it, take it upstairs, put on bed to put away later, put away. So I've handled that 6 times plus it's a constant nagging thing in my mind and causes low to high level stress depending how I am feeling generally. So the past few weeks I have taken it upstairs and put away as I have folded each item. Oh the relief!

I'm doing this with everything eg paper, recycling, washing up, everything. But I've realised that I've got a bit obsessive about it Blush and I need to relax a little bit so that I don't replace one sort of stress with another. Yes, I do count and no, I've not done a spreadsheet yet

foxessocks · 14/02/2017 22:13

fool that's exactly the kind of thing I do! I get obsessed with things and one stress replaces another! (Does sound like a good idea though, I started doing something similar with laundry so I put it away immediately now instead of it lying around for ages)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/02/2017 22:34

Here is the daily summary for Wednesday...

All information also available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. The

flight plan
should update every day.

We are in Zone 3 this week: the bathroom and one other room

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 3 is here

Spend 15 mins (or what you can manage) decluttering in Zone 3

Mission:
Since tomorrow is errand day, I want you to get under your bathroom sink to see what you need on the list. Check mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste. Do you have any empty bottles, or items you do not love? Toss them out!

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Daily reminders:
reminders

Baby-step no 15 - make your bed each morning

This is a nice easy one.

Flykids mission
We are going to go into our rooms and get all of the clothes that are on the floor and put away what is clean and put the dirty clothes in the hamper or basket. Here is the rule for today:

Do Not Put Clean Clothes In The Dirty Clothes Basket!

See when I was little I used to try this trick!! This makes more work for your parents! Put away the clean clothes and only put the dirty ones in the basket.

Your room will automatically look cleaner and neater when there are no clothes laying around to clutter up the space.
Ready? Set! GO!

Happy flying :)

Hello to foxes, Cag, zoo, annoyinglyhappy, Cotswold, Purple, Fooland and everyone else. Fooland and socks, I have heard that idea before of only touching stuff once and it seems sensible. I do try it or at least to reduce the number of times I touch it. I am not organised enough for a spreadsheet though Grin.

Not really managed any decluttering today unless you count flinging some toothpaste but have run out of time really and DD1 has just woken up so I think any hope of getting stuff done has gone. Maybe tomorrow... At least I have done a semblance of a nefore bed routine. Night all.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 14/02/2017 23:05

I like that idea Fool kind of like the toothbrush principle as well - to have things where you actually use them which cuts down unnecessary faffing.

We already only fold clothes as they're going away but sometimes it takes days to get to that point! Blush

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/02/2017 08:32

Morning all!I've been left to sleep
So I laying in bed checking thread...
Just realised D's needs be at dentist in 40mins.eeeeek

Cagliostro · 15/02/2017 10:55

Oops Zoo hope you got there on time!

I woke up early (compared to normal) today, DH realised he's brought the till keys home so he's taken the Caglets to work to drop them off before swimming. I have a pupil arriving shortly so I've planned the lesson.

Then need to sort pit of a boudoir out - we've had to move everything from under the bed, because the metal bit down the middle has snapped. Not sure if we can get a replacement - it's a 10yo Ikea bed - if not we'll be sleeping on a mattress on the floor! But anyway it means even more crap has been shoved to the side so there is no floor visible currently! Blush

Afreshstartplease · 15/02/2017 14:35

You broke your bed on Feb 14th cag!

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/02/2017 15:04

Where do Tupperware lids go?! I sorted out all our Tupperware about a month ago (I lead an exciting life) and now we are missing lots of lids Angry.

Here is the daily summary for Thursday...

Mission:
Today is double duty with the main bathroom and laundry room. Take the rugs from your bathroom and wash them. Before you start the rugs in the wash wipe down the top and front of your washer and dryer. Then throw the rags in with the rugs from the bathroom! If you do not have any rugs in the bathroom, take this time to reboot your laundry. Don't forget to wipe down the washer and dryer though!

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Daily reminders:
reminders

The daily focus for Thursday is: errand day

Baby-step no 16 - read Flylady’s emails I would really advise caution on this one. The amount of emails is ridiculous and a clutter problem in itself. All info is on website anyway.

Flykids mission:
We are going to go into our rooms or the area in the house where we keep our crayons, markers, coloring books and craft supplies. School is getting ready to start and we need to see what is needed.
Set a timer for 15 minutes and go through this items. Toss out the items that you no longer use, love, need or want. If you have things that you no longer want but are good enough to bless someone else with put those items in a separate bag and give to a grown up. Throw away the dried up markers, small broken crayons - anything that is no longer usable that is taking up space.

Remember, less stuff to clean and put away means more time to play!

Happy flying :)

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 15/02/2017 23:58

Thanks Stressy :)
Well I've done most of the badges that were in the drawer, but there's definitely more skills badges around somewhere that I know she's done Confused also did the tesco order (of goodness knows what) and tried out my newest board game (Patchwork). DH took the Caglets swimming and we put the stuff STRAIGHT in the wash when they got in. Woohoo!

We didn't do anything in our room though :o what an absolute state. Busy day tomorrow as well - no St John (as it's in the neighbouring county which has a different half term) which frankly is a welcome change as it's such a long day, but DD's got a writing workshop instead! :)

I'm going to renew our library books online as normally we go to the library to hang out between clubs but no need tomorrow.

I get a lie in as DH is getting the shopping delivered and then taking the Caglets to trampolining, I'll catch up with them later and must remember to pack DD's writing stuff and my flute as a friend is going to have a look for me.

Have a fab day everyone!
