Fledglings flapping and flying in February - the Flylady thread

Hello all and welcome to the February Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others Smile.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks so much for doing the December and January threads Cotsowold.

We are in zone 5 for the first few days of the month.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

I can't figure out how to post the individual missions (I will get better, I hope!) so as a treat here is the sneak peak for the rest of the week which has all the missions www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Feb 1st's mission is to clean our vents!!

If you have already decluttered then you could start some detailed cleaning www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-5/

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread Smile. Sometimes the Flylady website takes a little while to catch up on a new month.

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

I'll post the baby step and Wednesday's daily focus next.

Here is the daily summary for Friday...

All information also available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. The

flight plan
should update every day.

We are in Zone 2 this week: the kitchen

Spend 15 mins (or what you can manage) decluttering in Zone 2.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 2 is here

When was the last time you looked under your cabinets? Today let's focus on wiping those down. I never think of this, you know "out of sight, out of mind" thing. If you have a lot of cabinets this might take more than one day. If it does wright on your calendar to tackle the rest at a later time. Zone 2 does come around again!

Daily focus for Friday is clean out your purse and car
www.flylady.net/d/daily-focus/daily-focus-friday/

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Baby-step no 10 - using a timer This is a brilliant one!

Just in case people want to try it, here is the Flykids' mission. They will be a day behind but if you or your DC want to do them feel free!

I have thought of something called the 15 minute closet clean. For example, you set a timer for 15 minutes or watch the clock and while those 15 minutes are going you clean your closet.
If your closet is a real mess, and I mean big big mess, start with one area at a time. Like if you have a toy box in the middle of your closet and a space of each side then you pick out the big stuff of one side and then the next and put it where it goes in your room. The big stuff makes the mess look bigger than it is. Then go to the next biggest stuff and then to the small stuff but do one section at a time.
If the timer runs out before you finish take a 15 minute break and then go back to what you were doing. When you take your break don't do something you will want to keep doing so you just forget the cleaning and keep doing what you want to do.

Happy flying!

Ooh missed a load of posts. Will have to catch up tomorrow.

Today I bought a flute. Most of the evening was spent trying to get a good sound out of it. Didn't do too badly really. Lots of fun! Caglets enjoyed trying it too.

I actually had a hot chocolate last night, this thread is making me hungry! Good news about the gp Purple and I'm impressed with your colour co-ordination.

I've made a list of things to do for today and I've put a load of laundry on. The next three days are going to be a bit manic so my organisational skills will be stretched! Will try to remain calm and not turn into a shouty menace. Preparation will be the key. Along with wine and a late night tonight Grin

Will press on, catch you at lunchtime!

Cagliostro · 10/02/2017 10:35

Nope never played it, I used to play clarinet as a kid before I got my piano and I miss it, but I would never manage to play it now because you need an awful lot of puff and due to my dizziness issues I would pass out after playing a few notes 😂 I have wanted to learn a new instrument for a while and saw this in a charity shop for £25! Couldn't resist!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 10:42

That's total bargain cag
Dd2 playa flute.she's learning edelweiss at the moment.school choices were flute, guitar or violin.I refuse violin as whilst its beautiful played well early stages make my furry boys singing seem tuneful and I just haven't got strong enough nerves for that!!
Lil zoo and D's play acoustic guitar.lil zoo wants learn keyboard(got one Xmas)need research a good book to learn from as cant really afford lessons on that too...

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 10:49

Tadas
Fed cats
Wash on
Clean oven
Girls breakfast
Wash in dryer,more on
Sweep up mud that was all over hall from dd2DMs (she then left for school with warning not trail thru mud on way home tonight)
My breakfast
Wipe bath,sink
Bleach lav
Ring dietetics

D's cold temp down. Thought signs might be improving but the toads sneezing again today..he's still not eating much(banana milk at breakfast, sandwich at lunch, pot custard or rice at night)fir a child that's underweight its a struggle not to show how worried I am.as he's tired/weak I rang for advice rather drag him out. He's been prescribed a calorie powder (email sent gp so get from there rather trail to hospital)hopefully can pick up later.dp has been allocated that job!

Been try snow here all morning.little odd white bits, now small flakes floating down.always think watch snow flakes gently tumble down to earth so relaxing esp when I cosy indoors
Dd2 just sneak me a text they had a fire alarm practise and had stand outside with no coats....

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 10:50

Clear and clean dining table
Swept living room floor

Am now sitting faffing in MN/pinterest fir a bitSmile

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2017 11:02

Thanks cotswold. It was accidental but I'm very pleased. That part of the house so looks much more finished now so I'm hoping it will inspire me to get on and do some more decorating. Dh is off next week so we're stripping hideous wallpaper in our room ready for plastering over the artex and painting.

I used to play the clarinet and always fancied the flute cag. I'm envious of your purchase. zoo my dh plays the violin and he's tried to teach me but I can't bear the noise I make so I don't think I'll be pursuing it. The only thing worse than a badly played violin is a recorder.

Ta da's
Unloaded and reloaded dishwasher
Fed guinea pigs (it's possible dh forgot but I think the little fatsos were just pretending...they were squeaking as if they'd never seen food before this morning)

To dos
Clean bathroom
Tea towel wash
15 mins in the kitchen
Finish (!!!) crochet blanket and as a treat for doing it pick new project and go to hobbycraft to look at wool

Cagliostro · 10/02/2017 11:36

Usborne first book of the piano is good zoo x

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 13:11

Oooh.will Google that in a mo.thanks cag
purple I find recorders are perfectly shaped for pushing down overenthusiastic throatsGrin(joke)
Know what you mean.lil zoo had do it in music fir a term and they "kindly" lent all kids them.many "disappeared" parents destroy them I believe and thankfully it wasn't persued again.yr 4 its brassHmmthankfully as lil zoo already plays guitar and school gas a one instrument only policy I am not inflicted drag a sodding trombone back n firth to school(she has a bag that's like a backpack for guitar,so I don't carry that either. I always said from day one-i don't carry bags, coats etc.I am not a pack horseGrincould you imagine me drag all those lunch bags, pekits, instruments?!my back hurts just thinking of itGrin)
Did lunch.wash liv room floor

I really need a nap again.not sure what's wrong with me.been really tired past couple daysSad

Ta das

Decluttered car

To do
Declutter purse and bag
Declutter in kitchen
Hoover
Finish food shop
Bathroom swish and swipe
Clean cabinets

I'm firmly in the naughty corner though. Kids have been pickles today and I can't seem to get anything done. I took them out this afternoon because they were driving me mad. Still got this horrible cold too. Feel like giving up for the day and staying on the sofa with tea!

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2017 16:05

I'll join you in the naughty corner foxes. Instead of cleaning the bathroom I just had a really long boiling hot shower instead. I'm telling myself it must have made it cleaner somehow. I did finish my blanket though. It looks lovely.

Cagliostro · 10/02/2017 16:39

A finished craft project is an achievement! Star

Naughty corner for me today, my only achievement is not swearing at the Caglets 😳😂 I'm in a grumpy mood from hell. We did get some work done so that's something but I just want to sleep.

My main hope with the flute is that it'll be kind of a therapeutic thing, both mental health wise (I love learning new things and get frustrated when I don't) and physically - controlling my breath etc will be really helpful given how unfit I am since getting ill.

Must go and sort the laundry ugh.

Cagliostro · 10/02/2017 16:41

All the recorder comments made me :o BTW. I have some recorder pupils and they aren't too squeaky - if you teach early how to breathe down it (NOT blow it) and how to check finger position then all is pretty good really. I did wonder if I was insane when I offered lessons but I've been pleasantly surprised! :o

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 17:13

cag having kids makes us slightly insane, never mind recorder lessons!!Wink
Good idea re flute then. Hope it helps. I thought I might try learn play keyboards too.I played by ear as a kid(one handed) and played recorder to book 2,so can read a bit of music.
Purple Star for the blanket

I had my nap and believe it's time we ALL slouch in naughty corner.its Friday and the crapulence is a calling to be eaten.those that drink need some liquid fortification.those that don't do either aren't mums can hang out with us and learn some bad habits.

Have o forgotten anything?!Grin

Cagliostro · 10/02/2017 17:40

Oooh exciting zoo it'd be lovely if you and lil Zoo can learn together. Btw another good book is Get Set Piano which has a tutor book and an extra pieces book to go with it. Do ask if you get stuck on anything :)

DD actually did some recorder today and progressed past what she'd learned in the club she was in at school a few years back. I've had to be very careful not to push anything like that with her so pleased she wanted to.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 18:03

Thanks cag
Aw that's lovely she enjoyed it
Music is such a wonderful thing and to be able to play any instrument is,I feel,to be encouragedSmile

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2017 18:04

I'm quite pleased with actually finishing so here's the blanket. It'll have some flowers sewn on and a final round in whatever colour they end up being. I've started the next one so sitting on the sofa aka the naughty corner is more productive than usual. I'll do the flowers for both at the same time. Pesky friends with identical due dates. Grin

A guy at church plays the recorder (a big huge one) and it sounds lovely. I think I've just got bad memories of children indiscriminately blowing down them then using them as a weapon. I'm sure that's a rite of passage.Grin

zoo the naughty corner is very well stocked. I especially approve of crusty bread and cheese. I will bring my crochet and a big bag of sweet and salted popcorn.

foxessocks · 10/02/2017 19:26

Lovely blanket purple

I did a few more bits of my list but didn't get to the hoovering or the bathroom. I don't care though, it's Friday, I've got a horrible cold and I have hardly slept this week so naughty corner it is. I'm bringing tea and M&S luxury hot cross buns Brew . No alcohol here due to DS probably ending up in our bed later!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 19:45

Oh purple,that's beautiful!I can knit,not crochet...
Cheese and crusty breads my weakness!!
foxeslast year they did ginger and golden syrup.I would trample my kids for another bite of those(dribbles at thought, then feels guilty crushing zoolets under foot)
