Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Fool My nearly 15 yr old ds has adhd and asd, adhd is more noticeable. Hes well managed with meds but can be an utter numpty when not, I find myself getting frustrated with him and then myself when I find myself saying things like "for crying out load he's asked you to stop, I've asked you to stop, and yet you still ignore me and have less self control than your 8 year old brother...what is wrong with you????" Of course he retorts with "eeeerrrr I have ADHD" (I usually follow this with well thats no bloody excuse, leave your brother alone or I cut off your internet-he runs upstairs to stroke his xbox). But then I think back on the whole thing and feel crap for saying whats wrong with you, I know he has low self control and it takes him a little bit longer to process stuff but when I have an adult sized 15 yr old poking/wrestling and tormenting his brother, I find it really hard to remember all the reasons why hes doing it in the first place.

Cagliostro · 24/01/2017 23:21

Fool I'm nodding like the Churchill bulldog here. My two aren't diagnosed yet (it's imminent just waiting for the final proper assessment) but it's so easy to just forget and have neurotypical expectations of them. And I really shouldn't forget, I was diagnosed with ASD myself in 2015 :o

Hurrah scuttl congratulations!

I've achieved a fair bit today in comparison to how I'm feeling. Just sorted through loads of clean laundry (the washing isn't a problem but the putting away...) and found a carrier bag's worth of clothes to chuck. One decent item going to DD's friend (sentimental but doesn't fit so she's happier if her little friend will wear it!) the rest I'll cut the good bits out for the fabric stash now or tomorrow. So glad I've taken the time to do that - DD has used some from the bag already to make clothes for her teddy... including a Princess Leia dress (thankfully she didn't attempt a gold bikini Hmm :o). And it's all been free as it's all clothes that were only fit for the bin (I just cut out stained/ripped bits).

Tomorrow will be weird as DH is on a day shift rather than late. So he won't be around in the morning. He will be able to pick up DD from Brownies though which is epic because that really wears me out.

CotswoldStrife · 24/01/2017 23:45

I had a call back from the emergency services once - DD had dialled it when watching the Tweenies make an emergency call when they were on the CBeebies website. I was baffled until I realised what had happened. They were fine about it and I was very apologetic.

On that note, I'll post the links!

I haven't got up yet Blush have sorted some laundry though so it should all get put away today. Getting the Caglets to tidy up a bit as I have pupils today and they've massacred the living room (as every other day)

Afreshstartplease · 25/01/2017 10:42

Green over that lie in cag!

Ta Da So Far

Worktops wiped

Wash bottles
Sterilise bottles
Declutter table
Declutter stairs

PurpleDaisies · 25/01/2017 12:05

Really well done scuttl!

I'm also envious of your lie in cag. I got up and went to the gym-I have a feeling I'm going to hurt tomorrow. So many squats. Ouch.

I sorted one box from under the stairs yesterday and I'm going to try another this afternoon. It's getting there.

To dos
Proper stretching after class this morning!
Sort one box
Make soup
Think about dinner
Quick tidy and wipe around kitchen

Frazzled74 · 25/01/2017 13:15

I'm still getting over a chest infection so haven't been great at any of this! But today I have-
Shined sink,
Wiped down kitchen surfaces and cupboards
Dining table, cleared and polished. If I feel better later, my plan is to de clutter my larder cupboard which is stuffed with out of date sauces etc.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 25/01/2017 16:25

Thank you all. Just need to get my own home straight.

Cagliostro · 25/01/2017 16:46

You may all hate me if I admit it's not actually that unusual for me to still be in bed at that time! Blush A combination of having no school run and the Caglets being old enough to get themselves sorted (for any newbies - they have been home educated for 2 years). And the dizziness/pain issues I have a lot of difficulty actually getting up TBH so even if I wake up at 8 it's a long time before I properly surface' Blush I am trying to get up earlier gradually but I am lucky that most days I don't desperately need to.

Really nice day so far - awesome tuition sessions (one boy doing maths then piano) then we got the train to geography club which went really well.

foxessocks · 25/01/2017 18:22

cag enjoy your lie ins, why the heck not?!

Ta das
Tidied up after dd had friends round and they caused carnage so this was a big job!
Dishwasher emptied etc
Washing hung up
Dinner made
My bedside tables are already tidy Grin

To do
Declutter in bedroom - make up box I think . Not sure l will get it done today though...
Put some more washing on

If anybody wants to tell me how to get my baby to sleep somewhere other than in my bed please do! I'm so tired!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 25/01/2017 19:35

Sorry foxes, no advise here I'm afraid, mine were good settlers.

Cag enjoy the lie ins

Trying to sort bujo out ready for next week and lost all of my inserts, why can I not be more organised !!!!!!! could cry.

PurpleDaisies · 25/01/2017 19:39

What's a bujo scuttl?

I didn't manage to sort the box out but everything else is done. My legs are aching already from the gym so I'm worried what state they'll ge in tomorrow.

We got a beer bread kit for Christmas so I thought I'd do that to eat with a chorizo and butter bean stew. Minor problem in that I hadn't realised it was chocolate! It made a nice pudding anyway.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 25/01/2017 21:20

Bullet journal, just something I like to procrastinate with. Found the inserts, were behind a box in the lounge.

PurpleDaisies · 25/01/2017 21:22

Ah, that makes sense. One of my friends was raving about how good they are but I'd never come across them before. Do you find yours useful? I'm trying to decide whether to give it a go or not.

comeagainforbigfudge · 25/01/2017 21:35

Well done on the job front scuttl

fresh and fox you have my deepest of sympathies. My child slept well last night. But only because she had 2 nights of gawds awful sleep 😭 I have no suggestions. I'm sorry.

cag what does geography club involve? It sounds like it might be fun?

Not much flying done as was teaching/facilitating today and I'm shattered

Ta da's
Application for new job - DONE
Dinner made
Baby put to bed
Quick living room tidy up

To do's
Bottles. I HATE washing the bloody bottles.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 25/01/2017 21:39

Yeah, really useful, its like a diary but the way I want it not the standard way, with only so much room for this and that, I can add lists, to do eventually jobs and finances, families birthdays, gift list ideas, budget planner, gratitude logs, I even have a chore point system in the back for the kids and the money/treats they can earn with their points. And I have a flylady section, believe it or not.

PurpleDaisies · 25/01/2017 21:41

That sounds great. I'll investigate tomorrow. Thanks!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 25/01/2017 21:46

I'm using the arc system from staples but will be moving on to a letchurn thats all the rage, when my pages run out, as staples are now closing Sad.

CotswoldStrife · 25/01/2017 21:56

Sorry to be AWOL today, was out all morning again. Did some shopping and laundry, and lots of cooking for our not-very-authentic Burns Night Supper!

I'm out all day tomorrow as well so will be AWOL again - sorry!

More than 2 nights without sleep was a killer for me when DD was younger. She was never a great sleeper but if she had some really bad nights then I did feel it!

I have always looked at the Arc system in Staples, the inserts are quite cheap unlike the binders and the thought of making your own system is a lure to me. Not enough to hand over the cash, though! Well, not yet ...

I will be back tomorrow evening - sorry not to namecheck today, the usual awesome work from you all though (hope zoo and SC are OK as they haven't posted). Links next!

Scuttl do you mind linking to the one you have if poss pls!
When do you start btw?

Big waves to everyone else and well done for ploughing on through!

Bit of a crap day today tbh. No sleep because of hot flushes (worse after eating carbs so self inflicted!). School half day today and with dh away so much, DD and I are thrown together a bit too much (if poss) ATM. Try to make it fun but her adolescent strops combined with my menopausal grumps, do not a happy combination make Confused

Bone searingly cold outside, forced myself out for dog walks and supermarket shop in morning and accomplished not a lot this pm save for cooking, hwk supervision, Mnsnetting, banking and avoidance of arguments!

Oh and went to church volunteering meeting this evening and endured ramblings of horribly mysogynistic priest Angry

G'night all! Keep warm!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 25/01/2017 22:19

Arc system

Hope that works.
