Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 23/01/2017 00:31

Ok so who wants a giggle?????

I have got a job interview on tuesday to be a part time cleaner!!

konmariing is still happening, and its much easier to clean when you don't have so much crap.

one side of my kitchen is still tidy after the kids have been in and snacked, and barely any effort has been made to clean today as I am extremely hung over.

the bedrooms are still reasonably tidy, just keeping in the habit of putting stuff away.

the boys are doing a wonderful job of putting stuff away, plus they earn points for chores that can be used for treats or to get out of tech bans.

havent read thread, sorry hope every one is well.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/01/2017 01:19

Scuttl Grin.

Ta da:
Ridiculous amount of words cut out of most recent bit of assignment Smile. Main bulk of it done now, didn't get one table done but have to go to bed so will let DD2 help me draw that tomorrow. Gives me a week to tidy it all up and submit all the extra bits there are lots of extra bits but will worry about that later.

Don't know how good it is but am going to collapse happily into bed knowing that the horrific part of it is done. As long as I can get it to upload on the system that is Confused.

Also sent email about DD1 activity and did before bed routine.

Night all.

Rshard · 23/01/2017 09:08

Morning and apologies for being mia over the weekend! Had a rare weekend with no swimming so we've done things like shopping, go out for brunch and visit family!

Small amount of flying done so the house is ok but will crack on this evening.

Master bedroom blitz is definitely needed in our house but unfortunately most of the stuff is DH's. To be fair he's always busy around the house but putting away clothes is def at the bottom of his to do list! I usually ignore it as he's a 43 year old man but I might have a go in the spirits of flying
Hope everyone is well.

Sweepingchange · 23/01/2017 09:12

Good luck on Tues Scuttl!Grin V different cleaning up someone else's stuff to one's own - no emotional attachments to "clutter" no decisions to be made about what to chuck/ what to keep - and being ring-fenced/time critical, much less room for sliding out of it! I actually quite enjoy cleaning the office on the occasions I've had to step in. Anyway, sounds as if you are going great guns on the home flying front Star

Fantastic job re: the assignment Toostressy your employers are lucky to have you.

Hope yr dh had a gd b'day Cag

Bit meh here this morning. DD felt tired yesterday afternoon (unusually went off for nap) and felt sick in the night so I was up in the early hrs with her with buckets and Dettol etc, but she wasn't actually sick in the end. Let her off school this morning but can't help but wonder if this was an elaborate ploy to avoid swimming as she was dreading itConfused No dh to discuss it with because he's off travelling again (sigh).

Sweepingchange · 23/01/2017 09:14

Xpist Regard sympathies, my dh very rarely puts anything away ever!

Dreamingoutloud7 · 23/01/2017 10:01

rshard my dh is exactly the same he puts his clothes next to the laundry basket, never in it?!, I started crying yesterday as I hadn't got through as much of the laundry as I'd hoped (pregnancy hormones I think!) so he got up and did some however he's left piles of clean laundry all over the breakfast bar. The kitchen was the one place that was actually clean and organised, I don't know wether to be happy that he helped or annoyed that he only did half a job Hmm also he decided to paint some shelves, also on the breakfast bar, so basically my kitchen is in a complete state, 4 weeks away from due date and I just want my house to stay clean and tidy ugh!!!

Didn't have the best nights sleep last night and I need to go look at new sofas this afternoon, so just going to work on basics today.

Todo
Make bed
Empty dishwasher
Load breakfast dishes
Put away laundry Confused

Hope everyone has a good day, will try and pop back later to catch up.

Sweepingchange · 23/01/2017 10:01

foxessocks · 23/01/2017 10:59

Hi all, what is it with dhs and leaving clothes on the floor? I have this problem too! He has reduced it now after I did nag quite a bit...I'm going to get the whole pile gone today though.

Ta das
DD off to nursery
Daily routine all done

To do
Pick up all the clothes in the bedroom
Declutter in bedroom fifteen mins , think I'm going to start with my sock and underwear drawers!
Change all the bedsheets

Not sure what else yet I'll see how I feel later and if DD wants to do anything after nursery, it's very cold though so I'm hoping she doesn't fancy the park...

I've just had a coffee and a slice of chocolate orange bread , my dh made two loaves of bread over the weekend, one white loaf and one chocolate loaf and I'm getting through them a bit too fast Blush better do some exercise later!

PurpleDaisies · 23/01/2017 11:01

Hi all! I've been away for the weekend and pretending the house doesn't exist. Mil loved the cake which was nice. I'm really tired today but going to try and get the top to bottom clean done plus a load of washing, meal plan, bedroom mission and make some decisions about how to redecorate the bedroom. We're stripping and plastering at half term and can't decide what to do with it once the artex and hideous wallpaper goes.

foxessocks · 23/01/2017 11:01

Cross post zoo good morning! Your list has put me to shame but my daily routine does include lots of stuff honest! I was just getting bored with my list always being the same so condensed it to daily routine. See I'm even lazy on this thread Grin back to my chocolate bread then and yes my bum is firmly on sofa so I may not be moving until I either have to change DS nappy or pick dd up.

PurpleDaisies · 23/01/2017 11:01

Forgot-waves to everyone and catching up with the thread now.

foxessocks · 23/01/2017 11:02

Cross post purple ! Seems we are all having a quick break at the same time Smile

foxessocks · 23/01/2017 11:03

Boring thing alert, I have ordered some.microfibre cloths with the food shop. What do I use them for?! I only got them because they were on offer!

Afreshstartplease · 23/01/2017 11:22

Morning all

Well ds has just done me lovely poo to his shoulder blades! Then once I had got him cleaned up and a full change of clothes he promptly threw most of his milk back up on them! The joys! This is my reason for buying so many baby clothes though....

Ta Da So Far

Pets cleaned
Bins empty
2 loads dry
One load in washer and one in dryer
Bottles soaking

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 23/01/2017 12:35

Foxes, I use microfibre for everything, I just make sure I use a different colour for jobs red for toilet, blue for windows purple for polish and green for disinfectant.

tada,

went to kids schools to drop of extra bits for lunch boxes, found out ds3s yoghurt had burst and ended up paying for a hot dinner, ds3 suggested to head that that should happen Grin

slimming world tonight, jeans feel comfier this week so hoping for a lb loss, I know I'm not flying but I feel much more comfortable with you guys and some of you I recognise from years ago, and I havent found a konmari thread.

Afreshstartplease · 23/01/2017 12:37

I don't think what I'm doing is technically flying either! But my old cleaning thread died and this one is comfy

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/01/2017 12:54

I ignore loads of Flylady and take the bits I find helpful. I agree this thread is lovely and comfy and I love that everyone is welcome Smile.

Ta da:-
DD2 did her activity, now back home and she is getting changed again and pulling things out of drawers Sad just to add to my laundry!
Did a tiny bit of assignment work

To do:-
Tonight: make to do list for assignment and look at the dreaded online system a bit more

Lunch
Dishwasher
Laundry
School run
Play date
DD1 homework

Love the idea of colour coding cloths!

Does anyone have a homework routine for primary aged children? We'd to get into one I think. Once my own assignment is in am going to try to instigate one and might see if there are any old threads on here about it.

Rshard · 23/01/2017 12:54

I've got to say I'm glad it's not just my DH who is rubbish with the clothes! Yes, yes to leaving things next to the wash basket! And the washing machine. FFS!

Afreshstartplease · 23/01/2017 12:58

Stressy my primary DC do homework at wkend, half sat and half sun. But they read each night in the week for 10 min each usually while I make tea

My dp likes to pile dirty washing on top of the empty washing basket. I have taken to leaving the lid open and sometimes just sometimes things actually go inside!
