Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

CotswoldStrife · 30/12/2016 23:42

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Good morning all (scraping in with seconds to spare if I hit post quickly!).

Welcome LittleOyster, good to have you with us. foxes and cheeky always a cause for celebration when the little ones make progress but why does it have to be at o dark thirty in the middle of the night! westtoeast that's the opposite of me, things go to pot in the holidays and are only a smidge better in term time, tbh . Cag that sounds scary - take it easy. Is there much you need to do today? Fab news about the house happy! Muppets wins the thread today with her sterling efforts in turning yesterday morning around Envy I mean Star great work there!

Waves at Elenor, Purple and Rshard.

I am washing up in the kitchen this morning. Raining a lot here so any snow that is due in a few hours is unlikely to stick unfortunately!

LittleOyster · 12/01/2017 12:11

Thanks, Cotswold. No flying so far today, but will be digging out my lace-up shoes and shining my sink when I get home...!

foxessocks · 12/01/2017 15:55

Raining a lot here too Cotswold DD wanted to go out in it earlier to jump in puddles but it was coming down so hard I have to admit I distracted her with TV instead...I don't mind going out in the rain but I didn't feel like I had the energy today!!

Ta das
Picked up a few bits in town
All my daily routine
Decluttered two kitchen cupboards (got rid of some random Tupperware lids and an old frying pan! So satisfying!)
Cleaned out the fridge and wrote down a few things for my shopping list

To do
Still haven't finished all the home bleugh stuff. Still need to finish hoovering, polish mirrors, dust and mop...So most of it really oops! (These are my least favourite jobs so I always put them off)
Write party invitations

Muppetslikecoco · 12/01/2017 16:34

Thank you Foxes, Cotswold and Rshard. I hope everyone is having a good day! Smile (what is it with this smiley that it always looks patronising?!)

Ta da
3 loads of washing
Changed DS bedding and mine is ready to be put on upstairs once someone is here to watch the DC
Living room tidied
Fridge deep cleaned
Sink shined
Roast dinner in the oven (I don't even recognise myself today ConfusedGrin)

Sweepingchange · 12/01/2017 17:24

Hi all, jsut dashing through.

Hope you are ok today Zoo

And that you are recovering from the move Grey although I imagine there is still humungous amounts of things to do.

Very impressed by all the work that is going on here atm. I have failed miserably today and behaved like a dormouse. I have had loads of sleep and yet I feel totally knackered and keep nodding off when I sit down. I'm blaming it on the freeezing weather - tis bitter here - and the dark .

Hopeless!

Did force myself to walk dog/send more NY cards from PO/keep kitchen clean, do a bit of washing. Apart from that, zilch.]

And have no idea what is for supper, so meal planning has already gone pair shaped the first week back at school. Oh dear.

Big cheery waves to one and all though!

Wierdly, I am off to wrap presents now. Someone who hot desks at the office is flying in tomorrow and have some things for their dc to prep.

Sweepingchange · 12/01/2017 17:27

Cag I hope you feel ok today, that sounds v disconcerting x Take it steady.

Foxes v sensisble ttoday to wrap up warm and stay inside I think!

Muppets you are on a roll!

Welcome Oysters

Sorry no more personals, dd just back from friend's house, need to do hwk supervision and get supper [???? aarggh] started.

Sweepingchange · 12/01/2017 17:28

Congrats on new house Happyperson!

Big waves to all other fledglings!

Sweepingchange · 12/01/2017 17:29

pair - shaped???

Good God!

pear -shaped!!!!

LittleOyster · 12/01/2017 18:24

Great to hear what everyone's been doing. Thanks for the welcome, Sweepingchange.

Have had a bit of a tidy round, hung up a load of washing and put another on. Will shine up my sink before bed and - crucially - get to bed at a decent hour!! (It was 2am last night....)

Greymalkin · 12/01/2017 19:58

Thanks everyone for all the positive moving vibes. We are in our new home and it is fabulous. It has so much more character and cosiness than our old home.

I'm not saying the place is tidy by any means, but virtually all the unpacking has been done. I now just have to find suitable homes for everything!!!

Zoo - must have missed something, I saw something about you going to a funeral? I really hope you're ok.

Oyster - welcome to the nest, we're a very chatty lot!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/01/2017 20:36

SC behaving like a dormouse GrinGrin. In a previous life I could easily have slept most of the day in my days off. When I was a child I thought dormice were brilliant as they just curled up and slept and were so cute. annoyinglyhappyperson great news on the house! foxes and cheeky hope you have both managed to get a mini rest this evening. zoo hope you are as ok as you can be. Thanks for links Cotswold. Wing flaps to everyone else especially to new members.

Ta da:-

Out at work today so just basics really, dishwasher partly loaded by DH and a tiny bit of clean laundry put away.

Took some recycling into DD1's school this morning

To do:-
Dishwasher
Laundry
Unpack bags
Declutter a few emails
Before bed routine
Essay. Moved onto next part of assignment now. Am sooooooo fed up of the whole assignment now. Very grateful to have had the opportunity to do the course but have had enough now! Sat down last night to do it and just kept falling asleep so gave up and went to sleep (luckily had got some done in the day).
Party invitations

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/01/2017 20:37

Oooh Grey, crosspost, very exciting for you aboutnlovely new house. You surely deserve the naughty corner after a house move.

frazzled74 · 12/01/2017 23:08

Hello everyone, can I join? I would like my house to look sparkly clean and tidy to make up for the fact that we can't afford to redecorate and have work done on it by professionals. I'm not sure where to start? Dcs bedrooms need a good sort out but they are unseen by myself or visitors most of the time. It would be nice to have a lovely tidy and relaxing bedroom to escape to instead of a room full of everybody's cast offs, suitcases and leftover wrapping paper! I think the downstairs would be the easiest to tackle but then I may never get around to the bedrooms?!

CotswoldStrife · 13/01/2017 00:07

Evening or very early morning, I am always pleased to hear from another night owl Little , quick waves to SC, Muppets and foxes who have posted this afternoon.

Welcome frazzled, good to have you with us. Yes, it can be difficult to decide which bit to hit first - whatever you would find the most inspiring? Stressy, keep going with that assignment - the end is in sight (hopefully!), and good luck in your new home Grey .

Will post links now, cold here but the snow didn't stick (there was a flurry about 4.00pm), kinda expecting it to all be iced over by tomorrow though.

daily reminders

Gizlotsmum · 13/01/2017 06:54

Argh I have fallen off the wagon. Well my sink is still shiny (just hubby redid it this week) but I haven't done anything else...

Newchick · 13/01/2017 07:14

Am keeping my head above water domestically at the moment but that's about it as work deadlines pressing at the moment. Have just shined my sink and swept kitchen
floor and coming on here as reward!

frazzled where to start is an interesting question. I decided o was going to focus on one room each month and started with the kitchen at the beginning of December. I got so much done in 15 minutes a day and now the kitchen is hugely improved. I am also fretting about state of bedrooms but think will tackle master bedroom next month.
The advantage of doing kitchen first for me is that decisions were relatively easy and not emotionally charged, like decluttering clothes or toys would be, so it's given me momentum to tackle bigger things. Depends how your mind works really! Best of luck!

PurpleDaisies · 13/01/2017 07:55

Hi all,
My cold turned to sinusitis which feels like a hangover headache constantly without even having had a drink. It's pretty miserable. I'm dosed up with painkillers and meeting family today but I did manage to make the bed and put the dishwasher on before leaving.

frazzled I agree with starting with the kitchen. I basically follow the basic fly lady schedule and work on the room that we're supposed to be in until they're all decluttered, but I had a priority list in my head so the kitchen and bathrooms were done (pretty quickly) I moved on to the guest room, then living room, etc...There's no right or wrong answer, except to try and do it all in one go which usually leads to burn out.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/01/2017 08:08

Dreamingoutloud7 · 13/01/2017 09:12

Morning!

Kicking myself in the butt to actually get something done today, house is definitely showing the signs of neglect Confused

I might do the flylady blessing hour thing, although at 34 weeks pregnant I'm going to give myself permission to take longer than an hour!

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the thread, will try harder!

foxessocks · 13/01/2017 10:04

Morning all! Nice to see you zoo hope DD is ok . Purple that sounds really unpleasant poor you . Hi to everyone else!

Ta das
Taken dd to nursery

Ds has fallen asleep on me so can't do much yet but the plan is
To do
Ring hmrc
Pay hmrc
Party invitations
Clean kitchen floor
Mop other floors
Dusting
Polish mirrors
Hoover upstairs
Decluttering in kitchen
Daily routine stuff

I have had about 3 hours sleep so chances of me acheiving all this slim to none. Ds is snotty and refusing to sleep anywhere but on me.

foxessocks · 13/01/2017 10:12

oh and meal plan and food shop (online!)...I think I need some coffee and biscuits.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/01/2017 10:33

Morning all. SC thanks so much for the PM, I am going to read though it all and once I have this assignment handed in will get practising with links!

Just about to have a quick break for coffee and biscuits myself foxes. Hope everyone under the weather feels a bit better soon.

Re. where to declutter, Flylady gives you a zone each week if you don't want to have to make the decision but as others have said, whatever works for you and there is some sense to doing a zone a month so you can see results. For me, I stole an idea from another mum years ago at a baby group. Her child at the time was an extremely lively toddler so she said she just tidied / concentrated on whatever room she happened to be in at the time. It's stuck with me over the years and I think it works because you use that 'wasted' time if you have a few minutes to declutter and just get on with it. Sadly if I had it right I would have no clutter Grin!

Ta da:-
4 and a half hours sleep zzzzzzzzz as up late with essay then DD2 woke at 5 and I thought I may as well just get up. So did a prettt good morning routine before school run.
DD2 now at preschool until lunchtime so I am childfree and am trying to get as much done as humanly possible on my assignment (aside from the odd MN break obviously!).

To do:-
More study tonight
Figure out tea (might be fish and chips for DH and me)
Pick up DD2
School run later
5 mins decluttering
Did gather up some library books to give back then the girls found them and got them all out again Angry.
Deliver last party invite but need to check address first.

CotswoldStrife · 13/01/2017 10:52

Good morning all, gorgeous snowy walk except when I slipped on my rear to school this morning although the sun is out now and it is all melting fast!

Waves to Gizlots, Newchick, Purple (get well soon, sinusitis is grim), passes more chocolate to Zoo, good move with the bus Rshard, dreaming take it easy there, foxes hope you get a chance to have a nap today, the lack of sleep can be a killer over a few days!

Stressy - I will PM you about the links, I can send word documents if it's helpful. I think I stole SC's style of links but you can do whatever you like.
I have a Word doc set up for each day as some links never change or are specific to the day of the week. I have separate Word docs for the Babysteps and the Zones so I just copy and paste them in. The missions change each day but it's the same link with just the description changing.

I am still wondering whether to have a tip trip today or wait with the weather, could do with getting rid of the bags though!

Flap on fledglings, I'll be back at lunchtime.
