Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Hello one and all

Not many to da's for me so far

Tidied up the carnage of DH doing our pack up
Fell out with DD about her time management and priorities in the morning (less messing about and more getting ready for school)

To do's
Wash bedding and put on airer
Remind DH to put dinner in the oven
Declutter another bit of the kitchen
Washing away
Daily task but can't presently remember what it was but when I read it I did think I should do it!
Recover from a day of busy meetings at work!

CotswoldStrife · 11/01/2017 13:05

Afternoon fledglings! I've been out all morning, school drop off, dentist for me and then round to a friends for a quick coffee. Had lunch and now have a couple of hours to make a dent in things here before pickup time - DD has a packed evening of playing planned for us Hmm so won't get much chance tonight!

If I don't get much sorting done today I can postpone the tip run until Friday but the black bin bags are getting in the way a bit.

Catch you later!

Afternoon chaps have had a massive clear out over the last few days and bought myself a shiny new dyson v6 based on people's comments. I can confirm that this is my new toy!
Cleared out my room completely as having a new bed delivered today and got rid of a tonne of crap yesterday we are hoping to move at end of month so hopefully il be streamlined by then

foxessocks · 11/01/2017 14:39

Hi all. Hope you are ok zoo I've been thinking of you today.

Sound like everyone is still really motivated here! I'm really trying to stick to fly lady this week and see if the house does actually get any cleaner... I was doing my routines well but was stuck in a bit of a rut I think never getting round to the trickier stuff. Anyway today I successfully added bathroom swish and swipe to my daily routine! Hopefully I can keep that up.

Ta das
Dishwasher emptied and loaded
Washing hung up, put away, more on
Washing up
Rubbish to bins
Room rescue living room and bedrooms
Went to the supermarket successfully today!
Both bathrooms swish and swipe

To dos
Dusting
Hoover upstairs
Polish mirrors
Clean oven doors and hob properly
Decluttering in the kitchen
Sort out invitations for DD party
Do some Christmas thank you cards

Just having a cup of tea , DD is watching the Thomas the tank engine movie and the singing on it is so bad it is driving me a bit mad...

comeagainforbigfudge · 11/01/2017 15:23

I have Internet again! Woo hoo!!

I've missed so many pages of this thread as it's moving so fast. Will try to catch my self up.

Not much been done here over past few days due to horrid shifts and general "can't be arsed-ness"

Washing basket is nearly empty though. Team fudge effort there.

Anyway today's Ta Da's:

Trip to Dr's for blood sample
Trip to aldi
One load washed & drying
2nd load on
Clean dishes from yesterday put away
Dishes washed, a few still to be done but soaking
15min decluttering - about 20 random "why am i keeping that" things binned.
Top of microwave cleared, wiped and only a few things put back
Curry made for dinner
Bathroom - shower walls scrubbed. Bath washed
S&S sink

foxessocks · 11/01/2017 16:12

Ta das
Finished decluttering cutlery drawer and washed it up (chucked out some random chopsticks)
Decluttered another kitchen drawer, cleaned it out and chucked out a couple of hideous looking baking trays (this has added yet more stuff to the pile of things to go the tip...)
Cleaned the hob properly , actually took it apart! Cleaned the front or the oven and am going to oven pride it overnight (hopefully! I never seem to actually do this despite best intentions)
Started dinner

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2017 16:18

zoo hope the funeral went ok today. Thinking of you.

fudge I can see the bottom of my laundry basket for the first time in ages.

Ta da's
I've been to the gym, made some really good soup (I am very proud of it!) which will do for lunches for the rest of the week, put a wash on, unloaded the dishwasher and watched a lot of Mad Men. The council collected the Christmas tree too.

To do
Put out washing
Sort one box of stuff
Make dinner (turkey chilli)
Put the decorations in the attic

FoolandFitz · 11/01/2017 18:32

Hi everyone

I have not had the energy to post nor to read. I have done less than minimal flying.

Ta-da
Tidied porch as I came in as shoes and paper was everywhere.
Put washing out

Dinner was ready just as Ocado arrived and just as the washing machine started beeping. I went into meltdown. DP took over. Grin

DS woke up at 5.15 am, and was retelling a story quite loudly. Ugh. He is 8 and surely he should be past this nonsense by now.

FoolandFitz · 11/01/2017 18:33

still I'm impressed that you wear heels. Smile

CotswoldStrife · 11/01/2017 21:54

Little flying here today, DD is feeling shattered for some reason and took herself off to bed after tea! This never happens (she did finish her homework first, bless her!). She is in our bed so I will swap with her for tonight.

Quite tired myself really so will have an early night too. Links next.

Hi all. Long day here. Not got loads done, kitchen still not cleared after tea Blush

Ta da's:

Dishwasher emptied
Kids rooms tidied
Bathroom cleaned

The list is a lot shorter on working days!

Elenorrigbywoes · 11/01/2017 22:03

Well done Scuttl great work!

I'm back to work full time and am so much more organised! I've been following the zones and doing the daily task and the rest of the house is in ok shape!

Ta das:
One washload
Dinner cooked and kitchen cleaned after
Kitchen floor swept and mopped
Open plan area cleaned, swept and mopped.

The house has never been this organised or clean on a Wednesday! Small steps but am hoping to keep the house relatively tidy most of the time in 2017!

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2017 22:47

I managed half of my to do list which could be better but could be worse. I've got an early gym class tomorrow which means I'll be up and about so hopefully will be more productive. Thanks for the links cotswold.

fromwesttoeast · 11/01/2017 22:56

Hello everyone, I'm not keeping up with the thread! I always mean to...but..
In the school holidays I did well with flying and the house was looking decent, did decluttering and made progress. Back to term and I've no time and so quickly everything gets out of hand. Blush
I was looking forward to progress in kitchen week but looks like this month it is going to pass me by..

Cagliostro · 11/01/2017 23:48

No flying today really other than putting a wash on. It took longer than normal but that's because I got DD doing most of it with me supervising. Hoping the Caglets can do more really, they did move the wet washing to the dryer which is generally one of their jobs now (unless it's got non-tumble stuff in there as I wouldn't expect them to know which yet).

I have also been prepping some Japanese stuff as we ventured back into it today. I realised that as the syllables are pretty much all consonant-vowel I had a valid excuse to colour code the flash cards :o so anything ending in a - ha, ka, ma etc is blue, shi chi and hi are orange etc. Rather than all being in black pen this might make them easier to learn. So that's kept me busy along with finding vocab to learn.

I'm not doing so well this evening though, had a bit of a funny turn Hmm after dropping DD at Brownies, and haven't felt right since. Nothing serious, par for the course with what I have really, but felt different and a bit freaky due to happening while I was out alone with DS in the dark rather than safely at home! Just about survived the bus home and have pretty much been hibernating since.

Cagliostro · 11/01/2017 23:50

Oh but I was organised earlier in that I got the Caglets to pack their new bags (£2.50 each in decathlon!) ready for tomorrow as it's a long day where we don't really have time to come home between clubs. So I've actually remembered to pack what they need. Also organised a Tesco delivery so we have hopefully enough food to avoid much spending while out.

Annoyinglyhappyperson · 11/01/2017 23:53

Had an email late to say we definitely have our new house. Am so so happy and it's motivated me so much more to get rid of all the junk can't wait!!

Cagliostro · 12/01/2017 01:41

Aah that's fab! Congratulations 😍 🏠🎉

Muppetslikecoco · 12/01/2017 08:32

That's great news happyperson! Best of luck with the move.

Yesterday I crashed and burned, did very, very little and felt terrible about it. I did get to baby group at least. I woke up this morning feeling really low and it felt like today was going to be another bad one so I decided to just get up and do one thing (make the bed). The turned into a full morning routine and I'm feeling so much better. I've never managed to change my mood like that before so I'm really proud of myself.

To do
Wash the bedding
Finish laundry load that's in
Put dry stuff from yesterday away
Sweep and mop the kitchen floor
Make DS bed

LittleOyster · 12/01/2017 08:49

Hello everyone, can I join in? Have been doing bits of the Flylady method on and off for a few years now. It's great, but I keep reverting to my old ways! Some support and accountability would be great....

foxessocks · 12/01/2017 08:59

Hope you're ok cag
Congratulationshappyperson
Well done *Muppets" I know what you mean , I have so often found myself in a total slump and then the whole day has been wasted.

Terrible night's sleep with ds, he was awake for about 3 hours in the night for no apparent reason other than practicing some new babbling Hmm . Dh got up with him for an hour because I was just so exhausted (dh gets up at the crack of dawn so he doesn't usually get up in the night and I am breastfeeding anyway!). Off out this morning for coffee with my mum so hopefully that will perk me up a bit.

Rshard · 12/01/2017 09:04

fab news happyperson!

Hope you're feeling better this morning cagliostro

Well done for powering through muppets

Ta da's
