Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Afternoon!

Spent a couple of hours this morning vacuuming the small dining area in our living room and decluttering it, but so far still to go Sad Will press on ...

Weather a bit grey here, is everyone getting ready for the cold snap predicted at the end of the week? DD is going to be so disappointed if there is no snow!

OP posts:
Rshard · 10/01/2017 14:21

Wow! scuttl good work!

I am hoping to dodge snow, I don't think we're forecast to get any

A charity bag has popped through the door today and I have 2 bin bags full. One from dd's wardrobe blitz at the weekend and one from my own

foxessocks · 10/01/2017 15:20

Hi all. Totally unproductive day here. Only success was doing a few lists for dd birthday party. Other than that I got fuel but forgot to use my coupon for it so paid full price when I didn't need to. Went to the supermarket for a few bits but didn't actually get inside because dd has a tantrum outside and then ds started crying too so I gave up and came back home. So nothing acheived! At all.

I need Brew and chocolate but ds is feeding and I can't get up. Hoping dh is going to come home from work soon and help me!

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2017 15:56

Wow-you turn your back for two minutes and there are so many posts! Just catching up now. I'm feeling a lot less tired which I'm very pleased about and have been out and about doing useful things. I realised yesterday the previous owners took the smoke alarms when they left the house so an emergency trip to b and q was needed. I'm trying to sort out tge books so all of them are in the right places in the right rooms after the emergency move out of the summer house. It has proved more difficult than I thought it would be and I think I need yet another book case. I'm currently on a 15minutes break before going back to it.

toostressy cutting essays is hard-it sounds like you're doing a great job
grey hope the move is straightforward
foxes hope you have got your hot drink!
cotswold its grey and cold here but no sign of snow-I hope it stays that way...love the look of it but so hard to get anywhere
scuttl I'm very envious of your konmaried living room
And a general wave to anyone I missed Smile

foxessocks · 10/01/2017 16:27

Thanks purple this thread is very fast moving at the moment, great to see so many people motivated!

I am just having a coffee while dh and dd cook dinner together so breathing a big sigh of relief! And I managed to get a few bits done:

Ta das
Dishwasher emptied
Washing up
Washing on / hung up and put away
Room rescue bedrooms and living room
Decluttered one kitchen surface of paperwork

To do
I did want to clean some of my kitchen cupboards today but didn't get round to it and now dh is cooking in there so don't want to get under his feet. Might try and do after dinner.

Rshard · 10/01/2017 17:27

Same here zoo, so frustrating! I'm surprised one's turned up when I needed one.

foxessocks · 10/01/2017 18:19

I have wiped all my kitchen cupboards! What do people use to do that by the way? I have cream painted cupboards and I just used a wet cloth. I think it looks better but not great but that may be because the kitchen is quite old and never looks perfectly clean no matter how hard I try!!

I'm just going to check the home bleugh from Monday to see what I missed so I can do it later in the week. Trying to stick a bit closer to fly lady for a while...

foxessocks · 10/01/2017 18:22

Ok so I need to dust, mop, polish mirrors and finish hoovering upstairs by the end of the week... I'll see how that goes!

Cagliostro · 10/01/2017 19:39

Ahoy there Fledglings :)

Not terribly productive here today in terms of housework but a lovely day had by all. Caglets happily did their maths and then we had a visit from DSS and DSD so we played games all morning. Then we did geography - DH had cleared the table (epic hotspot) so we could play the games and then we put our massive world map on it to trace the countries they're studying for one of their clubs. Lots of very satisfying colouring and labelling :o then did some simple script writing - another bad memory exorcised for DD as it transpires that drama at school was horrendous because they always put the girl who mercilessly bullied her in her group Hmm :( Angry. Anyway she had fun with it today and soon took over the writing from me, even taking it on the bus to continue, so that was great. Then I did my first tuition of the year (piano) - must set up my spreadsheet later - and DD was back to tap class. :) Also discussed with another HE mum about setting up another little learning co-op, once a month. We've started doing a few of these and it's working well so far.

Cagliostro · 10/01/2017 19:41

Oh and the big achievement of the day, I actually made a decent dinner. SOOO craving a takeaway this morning but prepped a stir fry (chopping stuff sitting at the table) before I left and then when I got back from tap it was easy to get it sorted.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/01/2017 22:01

Hi everyone,

Not long back from a parents meeting at school and DH had a cold so have sent him to rest so still have a few bits to do. Sitting enjoying my ready meal first though Smile.

Cag, how lovely to create some good memories of drama. Purple, they took the smoke alarms?! Shock. Foxes, I think we've all had days like that where nothing goes right, glad you got your Brew. Scuttl, sounds amazing Envy.

Hi to everyone else!

Ta da:-
Went to meeting
Exercise DVD -DD2 did it with me Smile

To do:-
Tidy up essay - need about 30 mins I think on it just to get it to a point where I can leave it. Will do this last once in PJs so can know that I can crawl into bed afterwards. This is one of the worst assignments I have ever done (dissertation aside) as have multiple pieces of work to do as part of the same assignment. Need to move back into the second essay tomorrow.

Laundry
Dishwasher
5 mins decluttering - didn't manage any today
Before bed routine - thankfully this is started.

CotswoldStrife · 10/01/2017 22:06

Wiping the kitchen cupboards - I use a microfibre cloth (they are fab) and just some hot water/washing up liquid.

I am envious of Scuttlbutt's clear bedroom. Mine is an ironing pile! Will crack on with that tomorrow.

We get charity bags ALL.THE.TIME. It is a pain! We had one for last Friday and one for this Thursday dropped through the door today. I may put some stuff in. I don't think they get much money from it, but I suppose it is getting it out of the house with no effort from me. Probably due a trip run later this week, but have dental (hygienist) appointment tomorrow so won't get as much done.

Room does look better and is definitely getting there, but still have far too much stuff. Onwards and upwards!

Waves to all fledglings, will post links next.

I know toostressy-who takes smoke alarms?!! Annoyingly they also took the loo roll holders off the fittings but left the attachments (why?!!). Do you think I could find anything to fit them? And they couldn't even put them up in their new place without the fittings. They left us wardrobes they shouldn't have and we don't want. People are weird. At least the house was mainly clean and tidy.

I've had a pretty productive dieting things out day with not a lot of actual cleaning. I feel like thinks are getting sorted out which is very satisfying.

Ta da's
Boxed up last of Christmas decorations to go in attic
Decluttered and gave away some paints
Bought smoke alarms (which autocorrect just tried to change to snake alarms!)
Resisted urge for m and s lunch and made equivalent at home saving £2
Moved a load of books around and unpacked another two boxes of books (only one more left)

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2017 22:17

Dieting should be sorting!

foxessocks · 10/01/2017 22:19

Re charity bags we get loads too but on the few occasions I've filled them up they didn't ever get collected! So I took it to the charity shop anyway. I haven't bothered since then but might give it another go. I've got bags of stuff still in the porch but local charity shop can't take more stuff right now. Guess everyone is decluttering after Christmas!

Sweepingchange · 11/01/2017 00:23

Hi all, thanks for links Cotswold

Grey was thinking of you today, hope all went well!

Sounds v busy & productive in your household Cag

Foxes re: cupboards, I do same as Cotswold, just w up liquid + warm water + microfibre cloth. My cupboards (being shabby) never look spanking afterwards but nonetheless find it is one of those Flylady things which improves with being tackled regularly ifyswim.

Waves to everyone else!

Absolutely NO Flying achieved today, as I was out from early morning to early evening sorting various admin (state) stuff. Then did 1.5 hrs hwk supervision with dd (tried to make it fun) then had school meeting (rocks in corner). Trying to be v chilled for NY and keep things as positive and stress free for DD as poss though! And happily she also (voluntarily) read some Shakespeare sonnets that someone had given her for Christmas which she had never come across before and thought were "a-maz-ing" and she also decided to learn some Japanese. So taking any bits of enthusiasm about learning as v hopeful sign (even if they aren't quite the priority bits needed atm) as in long term all is good and should be encouraged!

Have mahoosive list to get through tomorrow (including kitchen destroyed by dh tonight in my absence) so had better get to bed! G'night all!

Zoo hope you are ok

Sweepingchange · 11/01/2017 00:26

Oh yes - communal state shredding service finally arrived today to remove Christmas tree - so that's one big item of decluttering taken care of! And v relieved not to have to climb over it any longer to get in front door!

Sweepingchange · 11/01/2017 00:31

Purple I should be sorting AND dieting!! Grin

Good to hear energy returning!

Cagliostro · 11/01/2017 00:52

Ooh jolly exciting that DD is interested in Japanese! We've decided to hire a tutor once a month but in the meantime we will be learning the characters ourself. It's a fun language :)

I've had a lovely evening just watching anime with DSD :)

Cagliostro · 11/01/2017 00:53

The above was to SC

Hope moving was smooth grey

Thinking of you for Wednesday zoo

Sweepingchange · 11/01/2017 06:05

Good morning!

(Waves to Cag - Japanese. Tutor sounds fab!)

Zoo thinking of you today, hope the funeral goes as well as these things can and is as much as a source of comfort as possible Flowers
