Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

CotswoldStrife · 30/12/2016 23:42

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Afternoon all,

Waves to all Smile

I need to get back into the habit of writing my lists down rather than just keeping it to myself Hmm

Today's ta das

washed breakfast dishes
took ds to pre-school
made beds
tidied ds room
bleached both loos
hoovered downstairs
done some ironing
picked up ds from pre-school

To do

make tea
bath ds
wash dishes
wipe kitchen
tidy living room

Grey Good luck with your house move tomo, hope its not too stressful!

Muppets We don't have those sort of shelves in our kitchen and if we did i'd probably store nothing on them as i don't like clutter, also i find in the kitchen everything seems to get coated in a layer of grime/dust quickly so its just another thing to clean the items on such shelves. I would perhaps put a house plant on the shelve if you can remove the intermediate shelves? Always nice to have plants around the home Smile

When are the xmas emoji's clearing off mn? Xmas Blush

Sweepingchange · 09/01/2017 16:19

Oh gosh Grey - so out of touch I hadn't realised that you are moving - very best of luck with it all! Flowers (and Wine for tomorrow evening! You have been through such a difficult time recently, I hope this move will represent fresh start/new horizons etc etc Flowers Flowers Flowers

Big waves to everyone else!

Blush have not got as much done today as had planned! People keep dropping by/telephoning wanting to say "hello, we are back" sort of thing. Very nice but very time consuming!

Sweepingchange · 09/01/2017 16:24

Have also been browsing Mnset after break. Very amused to see so much hoo-haa about wearing pjs in supermarkets. Intrigued to know if this actually happen in UK or is it apocryphal? That particular trend certainly hasn't reached the continent but gosh I would be so thrilled to see someone dare it (they are quite conformist here) Grin There again, knowing me and with my current middle-aged brain/eyesight, I probably wouldn't even notice tbh!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/01/2017 16:34

grey fingers, legs, arms and eyes all crossed and hoping for you!!Grin
Thanks everyone for kind words
You can pick your friends but not your family.......

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/01/2017 16:37

sc lady up road from me goes corner shop all hours of day/night in onesie and slippers-she lives a 2streets away from shop
And in summer I've seen her in a chemise venturing up there at 8am

Sweepingchange · 09/01/2017 17:26

arf at chemise Grin Sounds rather glamorous!! Grin

Have also reached dribble gin stage here but have to remain sober as dd's new Latin tutor is turning up in 30 mins. But have fed dd big bowl of pasta with bacon lardons, garlic, pesto, peas and broccoli for supper (her favourite). Dh and I will be having healthy soup later once I've made it in an attempt to lose our respective paunches Grin

Chores going very, very slowly!

Cagliostro · 09/01/2017 19:02

Hi SC jolly good to see you! Exciting stuff.

Zoo thinking of you.

Not much achieved today, other than actually getting my sorry butt out of the house to go to my appointment with the Citizen's Advice Bureau. I nearly didn't make it - feel rubbish (full of cold) and then a train was cancelled meaning I couldn't get the Caglets to my friend who was going to babysit, so had to take them in with me (with a magazine as a consolation for missing the planned playdate - DD most aggrieved at both the sudden change in plans and not seeing one of her besties) and I have to say they did me proud, they were complimented on their behaviour. Glad I went anyway, I've got lots of useful notes and I'm going to attempt to write it all up later.

This was sort of our first day of 'term' and we did a little maths and Greek mythology to ease us in, but the rest of the day was taken up with travelling for the appt. They are currently playing spies which involves lots of code breaking :o and then I'm going to get them to put the last few clothes away that I washed yesterday... need to do ours as well as have lapsed with it again Blush.

Sweepingchange · 09/01/2017 19:38

[Waves back to Cag cheerily.] And three cheers for impeccably behaved Caglets Smile

Ta da:
animals
dining room table hot spot
emptied dw
fed wm
extra thorough s&s
cleaned fridge door again
looked up/printed out important school dates and new rubbish collection timetable and stuck on said door
washing in td and fed machines again
tidied up briefly downstairs
sorted rubbish and recycling (this took a long time!)
threw away browning hyacinths in various pots in to green recycling bags
unpacked LED candles
made pasta dish for dd and served
made leek and potato soup for week ahead
made bubble and squeak for dh and me tonight
made ginger nuts for dd & Latin tutor
tidied kitchen and filled dw
spoke to lots of friends/welcomed friend in for quick coffee/natter to say happy new year etc etc
quick trip to supermarket for coffee and supplies for office
quick trip to post office to post dd's Christmas "thank you" letters

Should have got more done tbh but never mind ...readjusting after such a long holiday!

[Leaves out Wine for those in need and freshly squeezed oj for those having a dry January not me)

G'night all!

foxessocks · 09/01/2017 20:09

Ta das
Changed all the bed sheets
Hoovered downstairs (well dh did anyway)
Dinner made and kitchen tidied
Dishwasher on
More washing on and more hung up
Emptied kitchen bin
Plus man came to change a broken pane of glass in our window which was an added bonus

Sorry forgot to wave at SC earlier and say nice to see you back!

knittingwithnettles · 09/01/2017 20:15

Grey that must be heaven, a completely boxed up, clean and decluttered house, and a fresh start in the new one, which presumably will be even nicer Smile Good luck with tmw. My sister has just moved after tremendous kerfuffle over completion mortgages etc and she just sat in new house and said I cannot believe I live here, it is so lovely etc, but I don't think it is really mine, old house is where I really live. Still takes a while to get everything homelike. She said she nearly burst into tears (of sentiment) when she put the spices in the built in dresser in the new kitchen and hung her picture that always sat over stove over new stove.

Very many congratulations and if you don't complete tomorrow, remember it will be very very soon (sorry, again remembering sis's experience - days felt like aeons)

Rshard · 09/01/2017 20:16

Have done all my to do's except start kitchen declutter. However, I have made DH a cake for work tomorrow and bought rabbit food and snacks.

Working from home tomorrow so I'll devote my lunch time to the kitchen declutter I reckon! I'm going to start in the cutlery drawer.

knittingwithnettles · 09/01/2017 20:21

Housework.

Well woke up felt really stressed by thought of multidinous tasks. Then wrote very short boring list of obvious things, started doing them and felt a bit better. Still didn't do the serious stuff though like tax or ordering gym shoes or taking mattress out of car by myself

but
washed several pairs of sheets and hung to dry
arranged for cleaning lady to hoover under two beds and two bedrooms (harder than one might think to organise as both rooms strewn with mess that only teens can create) Usually teens do hoovering but I felt desperate to reduce the dust everywhere and honestly I think we were all sinking into despondent heap of clutter, which was not helping their concentration

Dd hoovers her own room because this actually gives her pleasure Shock and I feel it is a life skill Blush Also she does no other sport...

Made cottage pie for supper
stuck to diet - no carbs or bread or potatoes or indeed any sugar or fruit even
went for short run which has buggered my hip and my legs aargh (avoid avoid avoid)

Seriously into body clutter atm, and I hope that the more housework I do, the fitter I will become but more strenuous sports seem to backfire ahem

knittingwithnettles · 09/01/2017 20:23

Mind is a bit of a fog, but I did actually do lots of other useful houseworky things today, emptying rubbish, dws, recycling, laundry sorting, putting away lugging boxes, more decluttering as I went. Cleaning lady cleaned kitchen though and hoovered the stairs which was wonderful and mopped bathroom floors.

knittingwithnettles · 09/01/2017 20:26

Cag one of the things I used to love about home ed was the way term started, and there was a slight change in pace but NO TENSION NO HOMEWORK NO UNIFORM. Just a gentle change to the pattern of the day and a few new incentives or a bit more focus on a certain topic. And any time you wanted to take a day off, you could, yay!!

cheekyfunkymonkey · 09/01/2017 21:14

Good luck Grey.

A productive day here but back to work tomorrow so no promises that will continue.

Ta da's:
Playroom sorted and all toys in house back in their rightful place.
Whole house hoovered.
More potty training.
Big batch of meatballs made and frozen.
Finally got around to a few random bits of sewing, buttons back on etc.
Kitchen cleaned.

Didn't get around to the bathroom/ loos. I will try and clean inside of kitchen cupboards this week as we're on zone 2.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/01/2017 21:28

Good luck tomorrow Grey! Just finishing up with the dishwasher and can't even bring myself to write my to dos as there are loads plus I need to do more essay work tonight.

On the plus side I have booked the tickets for this thing for DDs that I had left late (they are in a show) and at least I have got some. Not perfect seats as wasn't organised enough but at least seats!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 09/01/2017 22:14

There's a fair bit of public PJ wearing round my way. Fly Lady would be horrified.

Ta das:
Decluttered for 15 mins down side of sofa. Not sure how this became a dumping ground. Found a cheque for 20 quid! Another 15 ish minutes should sort this area
Cleaned bath
Sink
2 loads washing done
Clothes and DCs clothes and bags ready for tomorrow

CotswoldStrife · 09/01/2017 23:14

Good luck with the move tomorrow Grey , we'll be thinking of you (I'll let you off the thread for a few days if you don't have wifi in the lovely new place, but don't push your luck now Grin ) Cake Wine

First after-school stuff tonight, urgh! Did manage to do a slow-cooker stew but haven't washed up the lunch boxes so will have to do that tomorrow morning Sad

Waves to everyone on thread today, Muppets, Rshard, zoo, foxes, SC, stressy, celeste, Cag, knitting, cheeky, Abbey and anyone else who knows me I've missed or who is reading and not posting at the moment.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 10/01/2017 13:49

My bedroom, is utterly konmaried. Gone are one set of drawers, bookshelf gone, bedside clutter gone, drawers have got the things I want in and shit that doesn't belong has gone in a box of miscellaneous crap. I feel sweaty and wonderful.
