Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Oh heck, that's not how I meant it to sound. Grin

Second time in two days-yesterday it was a very unfortunate typo for people walking in the pool...

cheekyfunkymonkey · 06/01/2017 18:44

Yes batch precook here and menu plan, saves £££.

Been a cooking day here, batch chilli, batch bolognaise and banana peanut muffins for kids.

Organised drawers in bedroom, cleaned kitchen and decorations and trees back to the loft.

Cagliostro · 06/01/2017 18:59

How are you feeling afresh Thanks

I know days like that, it's just a massive ball of frustration and anger and shame! :( But sometimes you just need to get that all out and then you might feel able to tackle it a bit. Baby steps x

Newchick · 06/01/2017 19:17

Ta das today:
Got new sofa delivered and old one out of house
5 mins hotspots
10 mins bathrooms

For those new to flying I can heartily recommend the 5 minute hot spot work - I do front hall, then coats corridor, then main kitchen counter and on into sitting room if I have any time left. It makes a surprisingly large difference to regularly de-silt all those spots!

FoolandFitz · 06/01/2017 19:30

Hello everyone.

still you can call me Fool, I don't mind as he is one of my favourite characters in books by my favourite author. Can you guess who the other character I like is? Grin

fresh I hope your day has got better. Flowers

purple and cag I've only just realised that you are on frugaleers thread. I wondered why you seemed familiar! Doh! I'm sure there are others on both threads, sorry if I have not noticed as I'm a bit slow on the uptake.

So my migraine was pretty bad but it's manageable with regular and heavy duty painkillers but now I have a cold - it suddenly appeared an hour before I left work Confused. Just in time for the weekend.

Anyway, all this means that I am taking myself, a pillow and warm cosy blanket to the naughty corner - I might as well make myself comfortable.

CotswoldStrife · 06/01/2017 19:34

Just a quick catch up and wave to everyone who has been on since I last posted (and it's an amazing amount for just a few hours - go fledglings!)

Muppets send him with a double buggy and see how far he gets! Good work on the essay stressy. Waves to zoo, Einstein, Cag (welcome back), fudge (strange how upgrades always cause problems, sometimes old and inferior beats new and improved), Rshard, knitting, scuttlbutt, Purple, cheeky, Newchick and fool.

Anyone heard from @Sweepingchange recently (although I have now tagged her and she will be emailed Grin )

I was wondering - I'm still a few pages behind so haven't read everything yet but had noticed I couldn't see her name! Travelling for new year perhaps?

Cagliostro · 06/01/2017 19:45

I'm currently having a quick break from doing the learning drawers!

DameBurleyChassis · 06/01/2017 21:19

Nearly one week in and I'm astounded that I've pretty much done what everything that's due this week. All that's really left is the floors. Go me!

So today..

Ta da:
Swish & swipe
Cleaned bath/shower
Changed bedding
Dusted
Dishwasher emptied and refilled
1 load of washing done and hung up and another load put on
Kitchen worktops cleaned

The floors can wait till tomorrow.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2017 21:31

fitz prehap?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/01/2017 21:32

Purple Grin.

Ta da:
Bit of party organisation for DD2
5 min declutter of cupboard of despair in living room
Tentative offer for some freelance work Grin. Is only one session and may not pan out but is nice to be thought of and could be a way in to something. Hadn't wanted to get into freelancing or extra work until DD2 starts school in September as I really don't have the time at the moment but when stuff comes up it is dangerous to turn it down as it might not happen again! Does mean a bit of organising though.

To do:-
Either collapse or...
Before bed routine
Make list of things to do as I have so much running round in my head
Present for this horrific swimming party I have to go to tomorrow.
Either preschool admin or study - may settle for pottering around organising so am ready to start tomorrow again.
Happy Friday everyone. Also wondering about SCis strange without her!

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2017 21:43

It's been a day of running around but I am done now and sitting with a beer. I didn't quite get everything I'd planned sorted but the essentials are done. I think I'm going to try and be more realistic next week. The guinea pig is back and looking good whirring at his lady friends. The car on the driveway which is brilliant. Instead of takeaway we had homemade egg fried rice with beef and broccoli stir fry. I was dead proud for resisting the local Chinese. A win for meal planning this week (one of the best habits of the month from last year).

Waves to fool and cag plus any other frugaleers I haven't spotted -I'm finding the flying and frugalling (which may not be a word) are really complementary. I'm much less likely to spend on stuff I don't need if I'm more organised. Lots of lovely helpful people on both threads too.
Hope your migraine's better fool. I've never found anything that works when I get them. Pillow and blanket are a very good plan. No one goes to the naughty corner through illness though.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/01/2017 22:00

Purple, I am terrible for setting completely unrealistic targets and long to do lists then feeling bad I don't get them done Confused.

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2017 22:07

toostressy It's so hard isn't it?! I had glandular fever a few years ago and then I just tried to do three (very loosely defined) "useful" things which sometimes just included things like having a shower, getting dressed and leaving the house for five minutes. Now I'm pissed off with myself for not doing a huge list of things that was never going to be achievable. I think there's a happy medium somewhere. I might go back to five useful things a day and see how that goes.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 06/01/2017 22:40

I have just finished cooking a weeks worth of dinners and omg am i proud of my self...even have a few left over bits to add to meals. so tomorrow were having stir fry
sunday pork roast dinner
monday chicken casserole....just need to dump tub in slow cooker
tuesday shepherds pie
wednesday chicken dinner
thursday gammon dinner and friday is bolognaise....feeling very good, so tomorrow i just need to get pack up bits, I'll probly freeze them too, dp gets bread from work and because its fresh without additives it goes stale quick...unless you freeze it.

Elenorrigbywoes · 06/01/2017 23:13

We went to visit relatives who are a three hour round trip away. Had a great day so didn't get too much done.
Before I left I spent an hour doing some housework and was impressed with my efforts!

Ta das:
One washload on
Swept and mopped kitchen and living area (open plan)
Cleaned the kitchen
Wiped down dining room table and chairs
5 minutes decluttering the playroom.

Came home to a clean and tidy house!

CotswoldStrife · 06/01/2017 23:19

Waves to DameBurley and Elenor, and anyone else I've missed today.

Did the washing up at least, but place has boxes of Christmas decs (taken down, but not back in loft yet) hanging around. Will post links next, bracing myself for next week when all the after-school stuff kicks in again Sad and I resume the taxi service. I let my DD sign up for far too much stuff!

Fell off the wagon a bit, still did the basics, but my floor is in desperate need of a good mop, dusting etc.
So I'll try and catch up :)

Gizlotsmum · 07/01/2017 07:56

I have totally failed beyond the shiny sink... restarting this weekend think I will target the kitchen and cupboards

celeste84 · 07/01/2017 09:25

Morning, Its seems to have calmed down a lil bit on here since I last showed my face although 13 pages in less than a week is very impressive everyone! I don't like crowds though, even on the internet, so I have just been peeping this week.

Its been a week of getting back into routine here after the xmas break with dh back to work and ds back to pre-school i managed to do a deep clean of each room one by one through the week so the house is looking back to ok again Smile

Today we are not doing much really [hate January - cold and spent all money] Housework wise I just need to do some laundry and keep on top of things really.

CotswoldStrife · 07/01/2017 10:06

Morning all! celeste I was wondering where you were, I was checking for the usual suspects last night - well done on the deep clean. Don't worry about catching up Gizalotsmum and 8FencingWire, just jump in where you are (says me, sitting on the sofa in her dressing gown at 10.00am - can you tell we don't have anything on today!)

There is a jumble sale on near us this afternoon, will I donate or will I just buy? It is a good chance to get rid of bags of stuff and help raise funds at the same time. I have 'weighed in' clothes before too but you don't get much and even heavy coats don't bump it up that much.

DH is moving the Christmas boxes and the room is looking really empty already. Let's hope that inspires me for the rest of the day - see you later!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 07/01/2017 10:20

I'm much less likely to spend on stuff I don't need if I'm more organised.

YES! Exactly that. It's the little things - how many nail clippers, hair bands etc do we end up with because we can't find any so we buy more... how much expensive convenience food/takeaway do we buy because the meals aren't planned?!

Still the Frugaleers are over on the Credit Crunch board. Join us! All welcome!

Really feeling the ache today, possibly the travel etc caught up with me (for those who don't 'know' me I have fibromyalgia and various other crappy things). DH taking the Caglets to town for essential trainers and backpacks after DD's dancing so I have a few hours to myself to rest.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/01/2017 11:27

Hi all, horrible morning so far where I was late for DD2's activity, then both DDs badly behaved so have had to bring DD2 home in discrace while DD1 stays at her activity. This is a right hassle and will have to take her out again in about half an hour to pick up DD1 (we usually go to a cafe to wait for DD1). Ugh. Plus the swimming party to enjoy later.

Never mind, will cheer up and realise it could be worse and try to help DH with home bleugh (he's just about to start it) for half an hour. Brew needed.
