Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Can I join please, a bit late to the party I know but only discovering this part now.

knittingwithnettles · 07/01/2017 12:04

Today I am going to:

PUT THE MATTRESS BACK UNDER DS1's bed and the guest bed base too, which have been cluttering up sitting room for far too long (problem is, then cannot hoover under ds1's disgusting bed which seems to attract sweetpapers, old socks etc)

PUT THE DECS back in the loft, dh is packing them up, he says my job is to take them up the ladder

CLEAN THE BLACK RING ROUND THE BATH (spray some cleaner on first)

today I have done Ikm run with parkrunners (who all did 5km), taken ds2 to park run
need to pick up dd from drama as I promised her a lift today, usually she comes back on the bus, but will combine with another errand (already dreading that)

ds1 is refusing to go to choir at 11.30, or should I say, has failed to go Sad - my bluff has been called.rats. He would have enjoyed it so much, teenage girls etc/showing off his tenor voice, it is round the corner, so a no brainer. But still, he refused.. rats and double rats..

ds2 off to a football match as spectator with his friend, and presumably ds1, who will cause trouble, I just know (has a habit of nicking ds2's friends)

Also have to think about where to store sleeping bags and old curtains which have now been hanging around our room in old suitcases for too too long. I pulled them out from under bed, and I do not want them to go back there. Hmm as they were attracting terrible moth.

Cagliostro · 07/01/2017 14:25

Ah thanks for linking fool -I don't often risk doing links on my phone as by the time I've opened a new tab, copied link etc and go back to the original thread the page refreshes itself and I lose what I wrote. Hmm

Welcome sunny and other newbies, I am crap with names sorry. 😳😳😳

Enjoying doing sod all other than a bit of digital decluttering - clearing inbox etc.

Rshard · 07/01/2017 15:21

DD and I blitzed her wardrobe today which was brilliant! We now have a large bag for the charity shop and a few bits to sell.

Lunch and dishes sorted

To do's

Food prep for dd's swim gala tomorrow
Nah DD to get her bag ready for gala

Hope everyone's enjoying the first weekend of 2017!

Muppetslikecoco · 07/01/2017 15:31

I'm so terrible at keeping up with routines at the weekend so I need to go and do my morning routine now Confused

However I did buy some more zoflora which is super exciting!

Ta da
Soaked cloths in white vinegar to clean hard water around taps. I'm pretty amazed at how well it works.

To do
Shine sink
Tidy hallway
Make beds
WM on

CotswoldStrife · 07/01/2017 16:16

Welcome Sunny, never too late to join a party (and there is no start or end date for flying anyway - some of us have had frequent start dates!).

Had quite a relaxed morning here did nothing, in other words so will have to pick up the pace this evening. DD has been out for a bike ride, DH is gardening and I'm reading this thread!

Waves to thread contributors Cag, Stressy, Sunny, knitting, zoo, fool, rshard and muppets!

Rshard · 07/01/2017 16:16

I'm the same muppet, but I find I'm more effective if I'm busier which is why I get more done in the week. I'm adopting a different pace for weekend routines, still get stuff done but a bit more flexibly. But trying not to get too fixated, I hear great things about the naughty corner???

Muppetslikecoco · 07/01/2017 16:22

I had a really productive 45 minutes

Ta da
Put washing away
Made beds
Washed up
Wiped counters
Took bins out and filled them with boiling water and zoflora to clean
Washing machine on
Floors swept and mopped
Tidied hallway

Muppetslikecoco · 07/01/2017 16:26

Rshard x post. I think a more relaxed approach to the weekends is a good idea. Especially Sundays, getting the basic routines done is any order will still help I think. Especially one load of laundry, shining the sink and generally leaving the house pretty tidy before bed. There's nothing worse than waking up on a Sunday morning to a sink full of pots and a basket full of washing. I'll meet you in the naughty corner every weekend with Cake and Wine.

cheekyfunkymonkey · 07/01/2017 16:26

White vinegar eh Muppet? I must try that!

Ta das today:
Sorted more drawers
Tidied lounge
Cleaned kitchen
Tons of washing!

To do:
Ironing Sad

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/01/2017 16:42

Did someone say Cake in naughty corner (considers stampede, but opts slightly more ladylike(ha!)dash whilst dribbling

Tells conscience to go do oneGrin

foxessocks · 07/01/2017 16:47

Ok I think I'm officially losing the plot...I could have sworn I posted earlier with my list which included wrapping a birthday present but it is nowhere to be seen! Hmm...Anyway can't remember what else I did now anyway , have just got back from a 3rd birthday party. So tired so going to make a quick dinner and a strong coffee!!

foxessocks · 07/01/2017 16:47

zoo I have a party bag here with haribo and chocolate cake which I can offer to the naughty corner (I may have removed some of the stuff for myself in the interest of my dds health obviously!)

PurpleDaisies · 07/01/2017 17:06

Our nice relaxing Saturday got totally derailed when we realised the books in the summer house were getting damp. It's been a massive move around to make space for two huge bookcases in the house. It was like doing a jigsaw to try and fit it all in. We got rid of an old wardrobe "helpfully" left by the previous owners, moved one bookcase to the shed, another across a room, one to a different room and carried two up a flight of steps. Plus moved all the books. Looks miles better but knackered now! It does mean we now have an empty bookcase so once I've fixed that to the wall, two boxes of books that have been cluttering up the landing will have a home at last.

Phew!

Weekends should not have a naughty corner. We should rename it the "well earned rest corner". I will gladly accept haribo if there are any going spare. Smile

Muppetslikecoco · 07/01/2017 17:10

Oh dear I feel I've derailed the good intentions with offers of cake in the naughty corner Grin

Cheeky it's brilliant! You have you soak the cloth really well, but then leave it wrapped around the tap come back a few hours (or several by the time you remember) and it just wipes off. I would add a before an after but I'm too embarrassed of the before. Also your bathroom will smell quite strongly.

Greymalkin · 07/01/2017 17:44

Afternoon all, welcome to Sunny and to Einstein - nice to have you back.

Please excuse my excited shouting but MY HOTMAIL INBOX IS EMPTY
Like PROPERLY empty! Deleted thousands and unsubscribed etc.

Ignoring the fact that I still have a full gmail inbox to sort...

FoolandFitz · 07/01/2017 18:14

I have been shivering and sniffling for most of the day. The only thing I have done was drive DS to his friend's party, chitchat with the parents and drive back. There's been lots of ta-das but all done by DP. Am going back under the blanket. Oh, I did make myself a garlic, ginger, lemon juice and turmeric tea and it has helped. Turmeric is powerful stuff.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/01/2017 18:36

Oh dear fool hope feel better soon

Well done cag really should tackle my inbox
Love orchard games!!

Made batch vegan banana and ginger muffins whilst roasting tomatoes fir lil zoo n D's to have with cheesy pasta and peas.that's there tea sorted-and judge by speed consumption its good or they are just starving hungry

Dd2 st be feel rough again.got asked accompany friend with SN scooter shopping as her mum finds dd2 a calming influence/distraction.they bought her a cookie from subway and she bought it home And gave ds saying couldn't eat that as throats to sore. Double choc tooShockSad

Newchick · 07/01/2017 18:50

Cag that is awesome - well done!!! Can I ask how you deleted so many?! Can't work out how to delete other than one by one...

Minimum flying here but did paint DS's bedroom ceiling with him - have never painted ceiling before and it's a good twenty years since I've done any decorating (leave to DH) and feeling v proud of myself!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 07/01/2017 19:10

Hi all,

Everything went a bit backwards here because the DCs were sick so up all night cleaning up sicked on things rather than sink shining.

Still I guess the idea is I just restart?

Tadas today:
Two loads washing done
DCs clothes put away
Toys away and living room vaccuumed
Changed towels and mats in bathroom

How closely do you all follow fly lady? I look at some of the stuff and do something else. Hoping 15 mins and decluttering a different thing is at least something.

Cagliostro · 07/01/2017 19:16

Thanks :o. New it took a while! I did a bit, got up and did stuff (mostly putting various things up on Caglets' walls as I found the blutak) then did more.

It's fairly easy in hotmail though, it's called Sweeping. While the message is open click on 'sweep' at the top and it will delete everything from that address. There is also sometimes the "too many emails from xxx@yyy? Unsubscribe" - if it's directly under the address bit (as opposed to within the email itself) click on it and there's also a tick box to say "also delete all messages fro xxx@yyy" which saves a lot of time.
