Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Morning all! Just a quick one as got to collect dd from nursery (where did that morning go?!)

Ta das
Made dinner in slow cooker
Dishwasher on
Washing up
Rubbish out to bins
Hung up washing
Room rescue living room
Sorted through my receipts ready to tackle some more of my tax return

Got lots more to do today but feeling so tired , DS slept better last night but still not great. Will take some bottles and magazines to the recyling point when I collect dd.

Happy Friday everyone!

foxessocks · 06/01/2017 11:31

Flowers sorry afresh cross post I think. Hope you're ok

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2017 11:41

It feels wrong that I am just sitting here not doing anything and it feels really hard to put total trust in them to take care of everything < control freak emoticon >

Packers are brilliant. I felt exactly the same as you-I had to go to a friend's house for a cup of tea. Good luck with the unpacking. That bit is less fun. Grin

I've had a productive and frustrating day. I got to the gym but without my proper trainers so I couldn't stay for the second class I'd planned to go to. Lidl had sold out of the gin that was recommended on here. I forgot to set the heating to come on so the house is like an ice box. And finally I sorted out three bags of old linen for the charity shop and drove over to drop them off-not in the car. Hmph.

It's new car day which is very exciting. I am very pleased not to have to drop dh at school and pick him up any more or be stuck at home.

Ta das
Guinea pig is at the vets
Food shop
Zumba
Dishwasher unloaded

To do
Clean hutch
Pick up guinea pig
Pick up dh
Pick up car (yay!)

Grin box of shame. Hope your day improves afresh and great news about the car purple.

Ta da:-
Saw tutor - she suggested more bits in need to do but I expected that. Some of what I have done isn't quite right, again, that was the whole reason for meeting her so that wasn't unexpected. On the whole though it seems as if I am on the right track Smile. So the whole thing is doable as long as I continue giving up sleep to write essays Hmm.
Decluttered a couple of tiny things
Picked DD2 up from preschool

To do:-
Try to fit in a run tonight (optimistic)
Run round madly while DD2 occupied with telly as it will not last!
Dishwasher and laundry
Unpack bags if time
Pick up DD1
Some preschool admin
More studying later if time

Ta da
sort through piles of paperwork to find the password list HmmGrin
unlock self out of all the things Blush
figure out what errands can be done tomo rather than today Hmm

Muppetslikecoco · 06/01/2017 14:59

Right, I've been pretty naff today but it's about time I got my big girl pants pulled up. DP needs me to pick him up a belt but I couldn't face it with the double buggy and I was already exhausted from nursery pick up. He's going to be in a mood about it and it's making me dread his return home which sucks.

Ta da
Made beds
Dressed
Took DS to nursery
Picked up baby wipes
WM on

To do
Reboot laundry
Shine sink
Tidy hallway
Put sheets back on DS bed
Cook dinner
Clean boys up and PJ them
Tidy living room and playroom
I still haven't finished the Home Bluegj for the week so I need to polish.

Cagliostro · 06/01/2017 15:49

I have felt inspired this afternoon. Got back from four nights at mum's and am very tired as the Caglets came too :o (DH didn't because of work) but I've got straight on with little jobs like putting new things away etc. Going to take down the xmas cards in a sec (DH did the tree while we were away)

comeagainforbigfudge · 06/01/2017 16:33

I'm having issues with my broadband so will be posting quite infrequently until it's resolved. Think BT have up graded lines somewhere but now need access to my house. Grrrr.

Using it as an opportunity to break my addiction to fb-ing/m-netting.

Finally read 200 pages of a library book that I've had out for 4 weeks already. Whoops.

Ta da's
Xmas Dec's down from tree
Hall decluttered
Floor swept and mopped
Front door washed (inside)
All light switches wiped down
Cobwebs attacked (there were only a few to be fair)
One wash on (and in tumble dryer now)
Sky phoned and engineer appointment made.
Trip to shopping centre to buy me a present (new bag with birthday & Xmas money if you interested)
The child's feet measured. Still tiny. I'm not convinced. Might go to another shop.
Dishes washed and put away
SINK SHINED - well my version of it. Kitchen looks a riot compared to it. But it's clean Grin

To does
Come up with an idea for dinner
Sort the crap remove from two small drawers of sideboard. Honestly don't know how it even fitted in in the first place!!

Feel fair pleased with my achievements today. Hope I keep the momentum going!

Rshard · 06/01/2017 16:54

Well I solved my kitchen disapppintmwnt of this morning by washing the dishes as soon as I got in from work. Feel better now

Dining room is a nightmare in this house as DH is an absolute bugger for putting his stuff on it - various cycling garments are the most regular offending items.

Definitely going to sort my bag this evening, there is something sticky in the bottom.

I have bought a diary today, have had them in the past only to give up by end of January but in the spirit of being more organised I'm going to have a good crack at it this year.

knittingwithnettles · 06/01/2017 17:30

Muppets, you have had an exhausting day, honestly you should not feel guilty. Double buggies and errands are sometimes incompatible, and it is horrible weather calculated to make one want to just collapse. Surely Sat is a much better time for him or you to pick it up, and combine with some other errand or shopping or even just a walk. Just say you couldn't manage it this time.

I remember my SIL being asked to pick up a pot of white undercoat by my rather demanding brother, when she was busy with two toddlers. And her telling me, he will just say, but I don't understand, surely it wasn't that difficult to do a short detour to the paint shop...it is only Ikm from our house (in the opposite direction from nursery/shops) NOOOO! with two small children everything can be difficult, when you are trying to do all the other stuff as well.

knittingwithnettles · 06/01/2017 17:32

I am dreading going out to buy some mushrooms, and I don't even have any toddlers now. At the end of the day, the smallest errand feels like lead boots.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2017 17:35

Picked up zoolets got both cold and wet
Lil zoo and D's sitting at cleared dining table eating (fish steaks, green beans and mash
Strawberries and yogurt for pud)
They all have choir at church 630.dd2 doesn't want be home alone (church st end our rd,can see it from gate)and is come but prob won't sing(least better by sun will know the song)
We are having green bean and mushroom risotto with cheese when get back.yum yum

knittingwithnettles · 06/01/2017 17:35

Today, housework wise I have:

taken vast quantities to tip, admittedly they were already by the dustbins and in the car (for several days) but I suppose it counts as cleaning front garden/car
put wash in x 2, including dishcloths
folded dishcloths
dw
walk
met friend
booked dd into drama course, wrestled with online stuff
continued to diet, successfully, no snacks at all
moved some Xmas decorations towards the loft, not actually in it, but towards it. So many more to do.

The council still hasn;t picke dup the recycling, it enrages me. 3 Days late. At this rate I could have taken decs off tree and put it out with everyone else's, if I had known, but i don't think I can face it now at this late hour.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2017 17:36

X post knitting I know that one.5am and I on it.6 I asleep on itGrin

knittingwithnettles · 06/01/2017 17:37

I'm still aching from yesterday's beginners' run. It is like having flu, I think oh lemsip and then think..no, probably not the answer. Crave hot bath, but have to organise supper and pick up of dd from somewhere.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 06/01/2017 17:57

Knitting If you have issues with aching muscle chuck some epsom salts in your hot bath. Generally good for sore muscles but be careful if you have existing medical conditions sometimes it can be not recommended (and for the love of brains I can not remember which medical conditions it is)

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 06/01/2017 18:13

quick question? does anyone here pre cook meals for the week ahead? like home made micro meals without the crap? if so, is it worth it? i find im fairly bored over the weekend but weekdays knacker me and dp out so end up eating crap. (not sure why tbh)

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2017 18:17

scuttle sometimes soup,or lentil bolognaise?
Mainly I try eat main meals at lunchtime if I know I go be eat alone when tired, then I can have sandwich.part myvresolutions this year take better care of me.I fuss over zoolets, but eat utter crap myself?!

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2017 18:17

quick question? does anyone here pre cook meals for the week ahead?

Sort of-I quite often do a big batch cook and freeze portions that can be taken out of the freezer in the morning and either oven baked or microwaved. I really like the convenience of it and I'm much less likely to eat junk if I've got something easy to heat.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 06/01/2017 18:24

Thanks all,

Zoo I've been wanting to change the way I eat for ages, (large breakfast, medium lunch, small dinner) just because I've noticed I'm more sluggish in the evening and I'm pretty sure that massive meals in the evening are making all the difference, but the scuttlets have big meals in the evening (when I'm on form) because they have pack ups for lunch.

Just wondering if it works for everyone.....it might be better for dp with his shifts, I'm sure he would love to come home from work and have a proper dinner.

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2017 18:39

We tried it but since dh takes sarnies for lunch it didn't work for us. I know it's a cliche but I absolutely love my slow cooker. Lots of minimal prep things you can do and just serve with some sort of freshly cooked carb. Great for batch cooking and money saving too.

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2017 18:41

knitting I've been to the gym for the first time in literally months today-I think I'll be joining you in your Epsom salt bath!
