Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

S'up y'all?

We have a busy nest here don't we? Great that so many new faces are feeling inspired and motivated.

Scuttlbutt - please do not feel 'banished' from the FLYing thread because you are doing KonMarie - lots of us on here over the years have used KM for decluttering and FlyLady for maintenance. Plus, KM doesn't really talk about cleaning; she is more about tidying.
I also love KM - I have decluttered so much shite over the last year thanks to her logic. Some of what she says is batty - she is mad as a box of frogs, but some of her ideas are just gold!!

Zoo - an eon-orgy? Sounds 'electrifying'! Grin Grin

AnnoyinglyHappy I am on the point of moving house myself so feel free to rant away with me whenever you feel the need. I have been steadily decluttering for a long time and the result is that we have so little crap to take with us now. The things that are staying are things that we need and/or love.

So then, count down to moving day: T -5days..... AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!

I have been tidying a lot today, putting things back where they belong so that when the removal guys come tomorrow, things will get packed with the other bits they belong with iykwim.

My zone work today has been gathering up virtually all the coats/scarves etc off the hall peg and put them with the rest of our clothes for easy packing.

Other Ta Das
Fed cats
Put bins out
Made beds x2
Wrapped parcel
Sorted laundry into loads
First load in w/m
General tidying
Filing of paperwork
Met up with MIL in town for lunch and to get my birthday present
Took parcel to drop off point
Brought bins back in
Made lots of lists for the removal guys and to do's over the weekend.

To Do
Take glass to recycling bank
Call utility companies
Clean cat litter trays

foxessocks · 05/01/2017 15:59

Hello hello! Not much done today as have been out with my mum. Did get some errands done though.

Ta das
Dishwasher emptied and loaded
Washing up
Sides wiped
Kitchen bin emptied
Picked up some shopping
Exchanged some clothes DS got for Christmas but he is too big for (chubster)

To do
Still not finished my tax return but I haven't got much to do now! Which obviously means I'll put it off until the last minute.

foxessocks · 05/01/2017 16:00

I'd quite like to Google konmari as I don't know what it's all about other than folding...But I fear I'll get really sidetracked and not do anything else for the rest of the day!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 05/01/2017 18:08

Thank you grey

So today we hit books and dvd's, I found some sites that take books and dvds by the load and have so far made 40 quid out of it!!

My bedroom is almost done. We have just 3 items to ebay. The rest is going to the book sites and charity shops. I also found out that you can sell lego by weight!!!! however we have lego, mega blox, and cheapie wilko/b and m blocks, all mixed into one and I don't have the energy to sift through it. However I am leaving the boys room til last.

My tumble dryer has broken so I'm now drying things via radiator and airers...which means I'm limited to two loads a day, which is frustrating when my darling children decide they're going to bring down loads of washing in one go. But my house smells nice.

tadas
school morning routine with kids
load of washing on
sell books etc online
go bank to deposit money
get boxes for books etc
tidy bedroom of last books for charity shop

to do
cook dinner
sort airers etc
hoover bedroom

i may organise a drawer in my room for makeup now that i have the space

FoolandFitz · 05/01/2017 18:42

I still have a headache and now my face is tingling so I should go and lie in a darkened room but I have work to do this evening as there is a review tomorrow and I am not prepared. Sad

Well done on everyone's ta-das.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/01/2017 18:49

4th load washing on
Sausages cooking lil ones tea,I having mushroom n green bean risotto with dd2 in a bit

knittingwithnettles · 05/01/2017 21:40

seem to have stalled again.

Exhausted by dieting and exercising. All energy to continue decluttering has left me, just surviving atm, in time honoured way of firefighting meals and laundry. Ah well, twas always thus at New Year, when I still have to deal with Christmas dec stowaway.

Elenorrigbywoes · 05/01/2017 22:11

I have been focusing on zone one and have given it some tlc.
Ta das:
One washload done
Dry laundry folded and put away
Kitchen cleaned
Dishwasher filled and emptied
15 minutes decluttering
5km walk with the buggy!

knittingwithnettles · 05/01/2017 22:20

okay, have done a little bit.

Drove dd to school
running club/outdoors
bought a new cookbook
dieted
Compost out
food compost in food bin
recycling nearer bins but not in because b*ks council have not taken the main wheelie away and it is full up
wiped worktops
washed up three frying pans
loaded dw
dw on
washing machine on
three kids reminded it is bedtime and screens removed

otherwise, well it is just heaps of untidiness everywhere. However, a run took 3 hours out of my day (running club induction and getting back from it) so I will have to forgive myself

knittingwithnettles · 05/01/2017 22:21

5km walk with buggy, now that makes me jealous Smile The best sort of walks are with buggies or dogs

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/01/2017 22:22

Hi everyone, still here, just swamped with studying atm Sad. Managed to be fairly productive today with recycling Xmas cards and a few other bits plus we have finished the Xmas cake so have cleared some work surface Smile. Brew to everyone who needs it.

Just about to make Brew myself as I try to plough on with my essay. Yawn.

knittingwithnettles · 05/01/2017 22:24

also,

made chicken stock from tues chicken
used stock to make dd japanese style noodle broth with spinach
used rest of stock to make delicious Spanish style rice for kids and dh with lamb chops on top
groceries purchased
chatted to kids at various points, and looked at dd's textiles coursework

so I suppose I have done plenty, just not much actual CLEANING! Bath has a big grey ring round it after two weeks neglect.

CotswoldStrife · 05/01/2017 22:46

Grey only 5 days to go - make sure wine is available at both ends of the move! Hope it all goes well. Foxes the book (I've got the first one, not the Spark Joy one) is quite short and easy to read - I do find it inspiring, I just find the task overwhelming! Well worth doing if you can declutter like that, I would love to hear your updates Scuttlbutt.

I have hung up the laundry to dry, will have to discipline myself to put it away or iron tomorrow.

Buggy walking sounds good, I used to love going out like that. I need to get back into walking, even short walks to begin with (and exercising in general). Preparing to take down Christmas tomorrow!

Just remembered to check and add money for DD's school dinners - they have an online system and she only has one dinner a week anyway!

Will add the links for tomorrow next. Fab work today, fledglings! Keep going!

Rshard · 06/01/2017 08:21

Morning

For the first time since starting this regime, I didn't wash up after dinner and I have to say I was really disappointed in myself to come down to it this morning! In my defence tho I did change our bedding last night and sprayed the lavender pillow spray DH bought me for Xmas so it was a lovely bed to get into last night!

Dishwasher loaded
Washing machine set to come on later
Holiday booked!

To do's
Book airport car park

But something for dinner
Tidy after dinner
Motivate DH to do some painting
DD to swimming
Food shop (while DD is swimming)

Emeralda · 06/01/2017 08:57

This thread has made me realise how much time I spend on "atuff management" rather than actually cleaning. I spend much more time looking for stuff we need, tidying away stuff we've used and de-cluttering stuff I don't think we need anymore than I do cleaning. I dream of a time when there will be less stuff to manage but for now, I'd best get cleaning round it.

Mammyofonlyone · 06/01/2017 08:57

I stayed at my sisters house last night - I wonder if DH will have shone my sinks for me last night before he went to bed.....????
I'll do my daily mission, laundry, etc etc plus my handbag when I get home. Handbag really needs doing, it's weigh approx a ton.
This thread is really helping my with sorting out places in the house where I would normally just 'shove' stuff out of the way and it feels really good!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/01/2017 09:38

Morning all, such a busy thead! Esmeralda, stuff management is so true Grin. Zoo, am in awe of your lists! Grey hope the moving planning is going as well as it can be. Thanks for links Cotswold. Hello to everyone else!

Ta da:-
Given one baby item to another mum at school with new baby - win, win as she wanted it and it is out of my house!
On way to see my tutor about my course
Picked up committee folder from preschool

To do:-
Pick up DD2 from preschool
Quick house tidy up
Pick up DD1 from school
Deal with the fact that DD1 wanted to have friends round after school but I've just not had time to organise it - hopefully will get something sorted for next week.
More work on portfolio depending on what tutor says
Start psyching myself up for another children's swimming party tomorrow where adults have to go in too Sad.

Greymalkin · 06/01/2017 10:17

Morning all,

YY to 'stuff management' - I seem to do much more of this than actual cleaning!!

So I have two very efficient removal chaps currently swarming around my house like a pair of locusts packing our lives into boxes....
It feels wrong that I am just sitting here not doing anything and it feels really hard to put total trust in them to take care of everything < control freak emoticon >

CotswoldStrife · 06/01/2017 10:18

Good morning all! It's such a lovely, busy thread this month, I will keep up with it DD slept in a bit this morning, must be shattered after only 2 days of school - should be fun when the after-school clubs kick in next week.

Zoo usual early morning roll call of achievement there Star Rshard I did the same kitchen-wise last night and it was a bit disappointing this morning! Emeralda, that is so true! My cleaning would be so much easier without the clutter (better start getting some bags ready for the jumble sale). My handbag fills up during the week Mammy and could certainly do with a clear-out! Swimming party - there are no words Stressy Sad

I'll leave some Friday coffee, cake (and wine) in the naughty corner* but it's been a fabulous first week of January. Looking forward to the weekend and the rest of the month!

*naughty corner is a term used on the thread, just means somewhere you can go when the day is not going very well for tea and sympathy. You'll see me in there a lot ...

I knew someone would post while I was typing Grey. I would feel unnerved but very grateful for packers as I have always done it myself. The thought of strangers moving all my cr@p belongings is not a comfy one for me.

You'll be kept busy with the refreshment runs for them anyway! Enjoy the break, the unpacking will be coming soon!

OP posts:
Greymalkin · 06/01/2017 10:43

Yes Cotswold it is a tad unnerving having strangers see all our stuff, although certain things will obviously be hidden in a private box of shame.....

Afreshstartplease · 06/01/2017 10:49

Having such a crap day Sad

I don't even want to list the reasons because I'm so fucked off about them

But basically they all come down to lack of organisation and the mess of the house

kicks wall in frustration Angry
