A shiny new thread for our soon-to-be shiny homes Grin
Spring cleaning time is upon us (or autumn cleaning time depending where you are in the world)

Thought this thread could last through April as well. Given how nobody but the lovely MrsN clocked how far into March it was already

Just got home from work to a house smelling of gas - DS must have turned the gas cooker on before we left this morning! Shock Shock Shock

Opened all the doors and windows and the smell is going, but I've just walked into the kitchen to discover DDog with his head in the oven licking it out. Does this count as cleaning it?

UFYH - the great spring clean
AdoraBell · 09/06/2015 14:36

Oh no Shock We've had similar in a cabin we rented. Cleaner must have knocked the control while wiping the hob and the place was full of gas.

As for cleaning the oven, erm, Well, err, probably Yeah Grin. I'd whack it on top temp, once the gas is cleared of course, for an hour or so.

Today I need To unfuck kitchen cupboards, and the plants are looking a little thirsty. I'm having a Brew first tho.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2015 17:52

i didn't mean I washed 12 loads in a day! I was just sorting out that much clean clothes!

RaspberryBlonde · 09/06/2015 19:30

Hope things go well tomorrow fudge', good timing on your last bits of decorating!

Cupcakes, I also have a cupboard full of random stuff (many of which are the same as yours, except the asparagus cooker!) but I have no excuse as it's a perfectly normal cupboard! Have you tried Lakeland, I think I saw some things that acted like shelves but didn't need to be fixed if that makes sense.

You have all reminded me I must get the oven cleaned, it's the one household job I'm prepared to pay someone else to do!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 09/06/2015 20:35

Raspberry would you like me to send DDog round? He'll work for bonios and / or belly rubs.

RaspberryBlonde · 10/06/2015 19:30

cupcakes my DH would love that! I'm guessing you would want your DDog back though and not sure DH would release him once the oven was sparkling....

big hugs and kisses, bloody well done!

comeagainforbigfudge · 14/06/2015 18:10

Hello and thank you ladies. It's been all rather emotional, still not home but we getting there. Baby fudge is totes amaze balls!

Not great mentally myself. Just need to get home and sleep in my own bed. Will come back and keep you all posted once I'm feeling more sorted head wise!

OP posts:
LetThereBeCupcakes · 15/06/2015 08:04

fudge look after yourself - enjoy your lovely newborn snuggles!

Adora great news on the house! Does this mean it's all systems go for the house move now?

Raspberry Sadly we will most definitely want DDog back! he's a PITA at times but we love him (and is our ticket to cheap holidays when we go to agility shows!).

I deep cleaned the bathroom at the weekend. I mean, I really cleeeeeeeaned it. Then had stern words with DH about how long it took and how I shall be most displeased to find any grubbiness. All credit to him, I saw him using the loo brush last night, so things are looking up!

Thanks for the ideas in the cupboard. I took everything out last night and stared at it for a bit before putting everything back in (bar some cans of beer, which DS has purloined for his "ice cream van"). I did manage to measure the gap to the side of the stop cock so I can look for something to go in there. Maybe a wine rack or something? Dunno.

Mum coming over today, which means I'll either get LOADS done whilst she plays with DS, or I'll slob on the sofa and chat to her! Will depend how busy I am at work today.

Plan for today:
Mealplans for rest of month
Post birthday card and gift to nephew
Quick tidy 'round in the kitchen
Dinner - something with left over chicken. Don't know what though.

But first a Brew I think!

RaspberryBlonde · 16/06/2015 20:03

Congratulations fudge and your DP as well. Hope you are allowed home soon and yes definitely lots of cuddles on the sofa and no tidying!

Busy weekend again so not much done here other than usual cleaning although did manage to make a whole stack of calls to arrange and rearrange various appointments.

comeagainforbigfudge · 18/06/2015 10:19

Thanks raspberry. We are in cuddle heaven. Although i do try to be sensible and put her down when she's sleeping so I can sleep Wink hard as it is!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 22/06/2015 09:56

Crikey it's quiet in here! I guess you're all UFing rather than messing around on here...

Had a lovely weekend catching up in the garden and the house, things are looking quite good! So hopefully today I'll be able to do some of the more long term jobs I've not been getting around to:

Sewing repairs - my PJs & coat, DH's trousers
Baking
Prep for weekend away (Yay!)
Post SIL's clothes back to her (left behind last week!)
Sort some photos to print.
Dinner. No idea!

RaspberryBlonde · 23/06/2015 21:16

Sounds like you are doing great cupcakes! Hope you get a nice weekend break sorted.

No UFing here, I have only just managed to get DD to bed here. Going to have to grovel for tips on the sleep board I think as it's getting ridiculous.

Need to get on top of ironing here, DH keeps saying he will do it as 90% is his shirts but then does enough to get hi through the working week, so the pile is not decreasing all that fast!

Hope all is going well with DD fudge and hello to everyone else.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 24/06/2015 08:40

Raspberry if he only wants to iron shirts as he needs them, why not just hang them all up in his wardrobe? Obviously tell him so he doesn't assume they're all done. That way he can iron as his own pace but your "pile" is not sitting in the way getting even more creased. Plenty of people prefer to iron as they need anyway.

Have lost the button off my coat so can't fix it. Doh!
All other jobs done though and even better - my veggie patch is FINISHED! As in, everything planted, every inch has got something in it. Just need to sit back and water / weed / wait!

Plan for today:
List final bits to pack for holiday (not really holiday. Dog show in caravan. but still...)
Prompt DH to ring bank to reschedule meeting. Sort out paperwork
Dinner - pasta (easy!)
Sort fridge and write shopping list.

Nothing too taxing for me as DS was up a lot in the night so I'm shattered! Working this morning and will probably sit down and chill a bit whilst he has his nap this afternoon. Dog training tonight.

That reminds me... I need to make a new dog training pouch. Might spend nap time looking lovingly at fabric.

RaspberryBlonde · 24/06/2015 19:41

Ooooh, that's a good idea Cupcakes, I shall give that a go! Sorry you had a broken night; how old is your DS?

Plan for this evening:

  • get DD to sleep (currently failing again...)
  • dinner
  • quick tidy in kitchen

How is the move going Adora? Must be soon now?

LetThereBeCupcakes · 25/06/2015 11:33

Raspberry he's 2.5. Sleep is going quite dramatically down hill over the last few weeks (and he's not all that good at the best of times!). He's got lots going on - speech has just exploded recently and he's just come out of nappies so I'm hoping he'll settle down again soon.

He didn't even have a nap yesterday which made doing jobs rather challenging! Still managed to get a bit done though.

Nothing major planned for the next few days as I've got work then we're away. Need to finish packing and sort out DDog's record book to take. Stripped the bed this morning so need to remake that later. Upstairs is desperate for a vacuum...

Really, though, I just want to drink Brew and eat Cake.

RaspberryBlonde · 27/06/2015 06:13

Ah, he's older than my DD. Brew and fingers crossed it's a short phase! We had broken nights until well after she turned one. She's a lot better now but still an early riser, hence the time of this post!

Plan for today:

  • couple of loads of laundry
  • finish sorting airing cupboard, did towels yesterday, sheets today
  • buy various new baby presents x3 (baby epidemic here!)
LetThereBeCupcakes · 07/07/2015 08:59

Helloooooo?

Well. 'Tis very quiet around here these days. Are you still around, raspberry, or is it just me now.

Oh well. I can chat to myself.

Plan for today:

  • Recover from week. MIL had heartattack plus lots going on at weekend.
  • Post Bday card to step sister
  • Book DS' holiday from nursery
  • Thank you note for neighbour
  • Dinner.
comeagainforbigfudge · 07/07/2015 17:04

I'm lurking!

Although I'm thinking I might use this thread to help me get through the day. As in small "keeping on top of things" task list.

So today I managed to:
Clean the bathroom (apart from the floor)
Emptied two clothers drawers - separated out the maternity clothes I no longer need Grin and neatly put wearable clothes back
Emptied bedside drawers and chucked random shite out.

I feel that was good going given that DD seems to be velcro child today!

OP posts:
RaspberryBlonde · 07/07/2015 19:37

I have also had a Velcro child for the last week - mine is heavy now too! Think it is teeth, anyway, very little done. Hope you are getting into the swing of things fudge

We are moving house (have been trying to decide for ages) so house looks very tidy but lots of things have just been hidden from view! Am dreading having to pack....possible viewing tomorrow so have to do kitchen floor and DD's room this evening.

Sorry to hear about your MIL, cupcakes, hope she is recovering OK?

LetThereBeCupcakes · 08/07/2015 07:58

People! How exciting. I thought it was just going to be me, pottering around in the cobwebs.

fudge DD is just coming up 4 weeks isn't she? I don't think I was managing to do much more than shower when DS was that age so I am in awe of your bathroom cleaning.

Raspberry she's doing OK, thank goodness. More tests needed as a scan revealed some black on the heart (?) and they need to look into it.

I failed miserably on most of my list yesterday. DS decided not to have a nap so we did some baking and pottered in the garden.

I did manage to clear my ironing pile though, which is a good feeling!

Today:

  • Jobs I didn't manage yesterday
  • Dig out old mortgage docs ready for bank review tomorrow
  • Laundry.
comeagainforbigfudge · 09/07/2015 14:41

cupcakes yes she's just 4 weeks now. Putting on weight nicely and grumbling crying cos we not quick enough at figuring out what she needs!!

Ah now showering vs bathroom cleaning. The schedule (mine that is) seems to be alternate days showering/cleaning something. Otherwise I'd go demented! The OH doesn't see dust. I'm employing the ufyh methods Grin little quick bursts that don't compromise ME time when DD is sleeping Grin

How's your MIL? Hope she ok and home Flowers

raspberry that's exciting. Perfect excuse to chuck things out as well. I always do the "do I need this" game when packing. Then the "why did I keep this" when unpacking ha ha ha
