Is anyone doing the January cure?

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

I think I might get my oven cleaned professionally - does anyone recommend any companies?

I've done all the main kitchen cabinets, starting on the island now.
Overall the kitchen looks worse unless you look inside the cabinets, I guess it will until I do the clear the work top part of the task.

nicknamenonsense · 11/01/2015 13:16

Cracking eggs to make an omelette and all that Karbea

Gautami · 11/01/2015 14:48

karbea I used ovenu, I think it's a national franchise type company. They were v good, I'll use them again.
I Have used another cheaper local one, but not as good and the man was a little bit patronising.

Karbea · 11/01/2015 16:01

All the kitchen cupboards done, I've throw away thousands of bbcgoodfood mags plus loads of other cr@p, not sure whether to do the surfaces or start the utility room...

IDidNotKnowThat · 11/01/2015 17:38

Think I need more than a weekend for my kitchen! Done about half of it so far...Sad

Karbea · 11/01/2015 18:33

This kitchen and utilty still look a mess but I've definitely broken the back of the task. Hopefully will finish tmr am.

nicknamenonsense · 11/01/2015 20:09

My kitchen also looks a mess unless you focus on one part! Lots of cleaning has been done but also lots of things still unsorted and now on the counter. The cupboards are pretty good inside except the one under the sink which is the worst so I will need to finish tomorrow as I don't fancy doing any more this eve. DH has said he thinks I am sticking to it well and as he probably does more cleaning / tidying than me generally it was nice that it was appreciated Smile

IDidNotKnowThat · 11/01/2015 21:31

Ahhh that's nice nickname Smile
I'm at work tomorrow so will have to finish the job during the week... Unless I rope in DP to do something useful while I'm out Hmm

Still things look a lot better than before, so I'm reasonably happy. Must check out the plan for next week's mini tasks!

elportodelgato · 11/01/2015 21:37

Hello! I am joining the cure a bit late, but I did manage to do my kitchen this weekend - so proud Smile I got pretty ruthless with lots of stuff and feel much better. It looks lovely. However, I have not tackled the oven! Did we have to do that too? Or is that another day?

IDidNotKnowThat · 11/01/2015 23:41

Welcome elporto! I don't know about everyone else but my oven is unlikely to get done! I might wipe the front down - it's horrible stainless steel which I find really difficult to get clean. Anyone have any tips?

Gautami · 11/01/2015 23:44

Stainless Steel - wipe with a bit of babyoil on cotton wool.

Or wipe all over with Bicarb on a wet cloth and polish off with a another wet one (no bicarb) then, quickly, with a dry one. Micro cloths are best.

IDidNotKnowThat · 12/01/2015 00:04

Thank you! I will try that Smile

nicknamenonsense · 12/01/2015 07:53

Hi elporto
Just had a peek at today's task and it doesn't require any cleaning or decluttering Grin Will give me (and anyone else yet to finish) chance to finish the kitchen!

Karbea · 12/01/2015 07:58

nickname I know! I need to think who I'm going to invite over and when and for what though.
I'm out for a couple of hours this morning and then I'm curing until 6, hoping to get the kitchen/utilty and maybe a bit more of my project done today :feeling hopeful:

Mitchdafish · 12/01/2015 09:22

You are all motivating me wildly. Work this morning, just about got over my grump at being out of the house all day yesterday.
I'm not going to get the kitchen completely done however I'm pleased with what I have achieved, my mind is still on doing under the beds so I will do that this afternoon. If DCs get home and find all their stuff ontheir beds they will have to sort it out a bit before putting it back underneath I hope.
Yes to ovens - ick.
There is all the day to day stuff as well isn't there. Mustn't think about that too much.

Karbea · 12/01/2015 12:02

I'm back later than planned as I diverted on the way home and got the car cleaned in and out, it hadn't been done since July so that was a job worth doing!
Drinking tea now and then restarting!

Karbea · 12/01/2015 14:15

Kitchen is all done wooooo!!! I've emptied our fruit bowl of papers and filled it with errr fruit! Filled in the residents association form which I've put off since July!
Having lunch now ( random veg from the fridge as a soup) and then onto the utility room.

IDidNotKnowThat · 12/01/2015 15:14

Well done Karbea. I'm at work, but wishing I was at home so I could scrub the kitchen cabinets - that's a first! Hmm

Mitchdafish · 12/01/2015 17:24

Yes, well done! I did under DC beds, and did behind things on the worktops whilst on hold to the National Insurance people. Hmmmm to today's task. I never formally invite anyone around, however that's generally because of all the cleaning. Hmmmm. Maybe some family, for lunch?

nicknamenonsense · 12/01/2015 21:52

You are all so good at this! I still haven't finished my bloody kitchen!! I haven't given up and have done another cupboard today as well as cleaned two open shelves, I will keep chipping away at it.

I have arranged a night in with friends for Sat 31st and one of them is going to be staying overnight with her children so I will need more than just the sitting room looking its best!!

IDidNotKnowThat · 12/01/2015 23:51

I got home, fell asleep on the sofa, and have done nothing since. Working at home tomorrow so might be able to squeeze a bit in.
Not arranged to host anyone antisocial bugger will need to give that some thought.

Mitchdafish · 13/01/2015 11:30

I am cleaning the actual oven, having found ancient oven cleaner when clearing out under the sink.

RunningKatie · 13/01/2015 13:20

I am behind, still not attacked the kitchen. DS kindly shared the bug with dh and I so it's all a bit delayed.

I have just looked at yesterdays task, going to give myself a big tick for that as already got my DM booked in for a visit on Feb 2nd. Smile

IDidNotKnowThat · 13/01/2015 18:40

Just done scrubbing the outsides of the kitchen cabinets - whew!

Sit down then I'll attempt the 3 minute sweep.

nicknamenonsense · 13/01/2015 23:36

I have been out all day until about 1/2 hr ago as I went straight from work to a concert my DS was in so not a bit of cleaning or sweeping here! Off to bed, will resume 'Curing' tomorrow
