Is anyone doing the January cure?

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

I've had a sneaky look at last years, it starts off easily enough with writing a plan, I am amazing at writing lists. Smile

Christmasbargainshopper · 29/12/2014 22:39

I could do with a mini cure to sort my house before visitors arrive for new year! Wink

Chippychop · 30/12/2014 00:16

Sounds great Signing up...

afreshstartplease · 30/12/2014 07:47

Chimichangaz · 30/12/2014 22:49

Never heard of this or Apartment Therapy before but I like it and I'm in!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 30/12/2014 23:01

This could be the sort of thing I am after. Partly agree to the theory that a tidy home equals a tidy life (obviously bad things can still happen, but I do feel my often bad mood is worse because of the state of my house) my home is one of the many improvements I'm hoping to make in 2015. I have signed up.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 30/12/2014 23:24

Just been reading through last year's tasks and I think there are some good ideas there. Just doing this won't give me the home I want, but it will give me a good start. I particularly like the flower idea. I'm also going to take before photos to keep me on track when I see the progress.

MrsPepperMintonCandyCane · 30/12/2014 23:25

There is also this declutter guide. It lasts all year!!

I am definitely in! TTCing, it would be good to have an organised house, BEFORE any babies make an appearance! I need some good habits.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 31/12/2014 10:13

Oooh I like that site MrsPepper Thanks for the link.

I've signed up - I will be enjoying Unemployed January so this seems like a good chance to have a go.

tribpot · 31/12/2014 11:23

Oh - it doesn't start til Jan 2nd! This seems a bit defeatist to me. Any recommendations for a good starter task for tomorrow?

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 31/12/2014 11:35

How about making sure you are stocked up with cleaning materials, bin bags, boxes etc?

You could maybe spend a bit decluttering an area or sorting through clothes and getting rid of anything that has not been worn in 2014?

Filing any paperwork/shredding any old bank statements etc?

Making lists of everything that needs doing in the house?

Organising a daily household task list of tasks that need doing everyday?

MrsPepperMintonCandyCane · 31/12/2014 11:36

Biscuits I think I need you to organise me!! Grin

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 31/12/2014 11:39

I was making a list of all the things I really need to be doing Grin

Im sorting out my control journal tomorrow and making a list of cleaning supplies I need for when I go to my weekly shopping on Friday.

MrsPepperMintonCandyCane · 31/12/2014 11:48

I think that's a good plan and I have just the notebook not at all stationery obsessed or fond lists!!to do it in! Grin

tribpot · 31/12/2014 11:48

tasks that need doing everyday

Blimey. We don't have those - I work F-T normally so I can't be setting standards too high during Unemployed January Grin

Making lists of everything that needs doing in the house?

That could take the whole of January I reckon. Will aim to end January with a list of the major tasks for the year.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 31/12/2014 11:59

Washing up is a task that needs doing everyday. I also do laundry everyday - A load a day keeps CHAOS away. Putting out bins maybe. Just little simple daily tasks to keep on top of some things. I plan to have my daily tasks growing as time goes on.

Regarding lists, I was thinking of a quick walk into every room and seeing what needs decluttering or cleaning. Im expecting this task to take me about half an hour or so. I have Dining room, downstairs bathroom, living room, kitchen, hallway, landing, 3 bedrooms and upstairs bathroom. Just a quick list to make each room nicer. Not show-homey yet, but nicer than it is now. Hoping the show-home look will come next year. I need to declutter a lot and deep clean the whole house first.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 31/12/2014 12:04

I'm in! My house is a tip and we have a new baby on the way in feb/March. The house is small enough as it is I don't need the mess too!

tribpot · 31/12/2014 13:11

I have a dishwasher, Biscuits - it doesn't go on every day, although it does most days. I'll maybe aim to stick it on every day whilst I'm at home.

RunningKatie · 31/12/2014 13:40

I do agree with you Biscuits, our bedroom is full of boxes of the dc's outgrown clothes. I see them everytime I walk in the room and I find them overwhelming and frustrating. My aim is a clear floor in there by the end of Jan.

Then the dining room toy dumping area needs to be tackled.

I'm going to have 90 dc-free minutes once a week so will use that time to drink coffee and declutter.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 31/12/2014 14:39

When I wrote the original ideas list I forgot that most people have a dishwasher. I live in the dark ages and it just never occured to me. Probably why I can't be fussed with shining my sink every night as Flylady recommends. Which is why she never works for me as I dont do my sink. Once we have eaten, its getting the DCs (Well just DD2 now) ready for bed and play/story time before bed. The last thing I can be arsed to do once she is in bed is to wash the dishes. I like to sit and enjoy the peace.

Karbea · 31/12/2014 14:50

I'm doing a general tidy up/clean today in prep for the cure. We are at the in laws tmr so wouldn't get much of a chance to do anything much anyway. Ready last years tasks it sounds more like mini projects rather than daily tasks isn't it?

nicknamenonsense · 31/12/2014 16:58

I've signed up. Does anyone know what time of day (in the UK) the emails come through? On the Apartment Therapy site one person was requesting them earlier but she was in Oz so an even bigger time difference between there and the US.
I'm desperate to get started which may not be a good sign as I might burn out by next week!!! My list is pretty much done (during v boring stay at in laws!!) and some decluttering has started so hopefully I will stay on track
