Is anyone doing the January cure?

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

No media fast here either, we watched The Theory of Everything and ate cheese and I had a fascinating wheelchair dream.
Anyway... bedroom for me was fantastic, never been so motivated. This morn I even put my clothes away. We pulled the carpet up last year and so I was under the bed scrubbing floorboards with eucalyptus water. Who's have thought? Lovely to hear how you have been getting on.

RunningKatie · 20/01/2015 12:55

I do a sort of media fast on a Saturday, I put the phone and computer away but we watch a.film together and really chat rather than faffing about.

Not much progress made on bedroom task, someone was supposed to drop by yesterday to collect some outgrown baby things but didn't show.

CMP69 · 20/01/2015 16:05

Woohoo! we don't have bathroom cabinets, do I get a day off Grin
Actually going to tackle the drawers and my wardrobe in our bedroom as planned Brew first, it was cold waiting outside school

IDidNotKnowThat · 20/01/2015 16:19

Oooh fab, I did a bathroom blitz yesterday so all good here!! makes a change

nicknamenonsense · 20/01/2015 17:18

Part media fast here. DH was out watching footie so once the DC were in bed it was just me and the dog. I gave myself a mini manicure as my hands were so dry (I like to think this is because of all the cleaning I've been doing but it is probably more likely that the weather is to blame!) It did make me sit and contemplate the state of the sitting room. I know we haven't got to this room yet but there is a lot of stuff that needs sorting so as I did the cabinets yesterday I might make a start on the sitting room this eve. I've decided I'm going to sort of skip the bedroom as it is not too bad and keep up to date with the other tasks.

CMP69 · 21/01/2015 12:38

Had a very productive afternoon yesterday. Sorted the chest of drawers and the shelf in my wardrobe. Bagged a load of stuff up for charity/bin. This has been great as I feel everywhere will have had a good sort and hopefully we will be able to keep on top of it from now on Grin

Mitchdafish · 22/01/2015 14:35

I just can't face the hall. It's a mess...

RunningKatie · 22/01/2015 14:50

I get the theory of the launch pad but it doesn't exactly fill me with excitment sorting it. I was more chuffed with the amount of dust I cleared from under the bed Wink

Waiting for today's task, I fear my enthusiasm is waning.

CMP69 · 22/01/2015 17:57

I sort of do the landing strip thing but sadly no one else does Angry . I keep threatening to buy a shoe cupboard for the hall and DH says "Oh waste of money we'll all put our shoes away" and then doesn't! I don't mind work and school shoes through the week but no one needs 3 or 4 or more pairs out.
I'm going to combine this and today's closet one to sort my hall and under stairs cupboard. I may very well spend several some money Grin

Mitchdafish · 23/01/2015 15:46

CMP I was stroking the shoe cabinets in Ikea only yesterday!
I put clothes and shoes out for recycling last night. Lovely feeling.
I got a wiggle on today and attacked under the stairs, did some rearranging, took a couple of bags to the charity shop. If I put a few hours in to the living room this weekend, I will feel really pleased.
The study/attic/spare room has got a bit out of control though... and I had to leave my coat in the dryer at the launderette, I'd got excited and decided to wash it - after an hour the woman said they take ages and ages for down to dry!

CMP69 · 23/01/2015 18:10

All the lovely ones are £££ Mitch Sad Got nothing done today as we had a school friend for tea. Friday is takeaway and tellly so will see what happens over the weekend.

Mitchdafish · 25/01/2015 10:24

Not much done here, I have a pile of strange laundry- things for charity or storage that need particular care. I am having some DIY done in the living room so not much point in cleaning, however I will try to make sure that everything that is on the shelves is stuff we actually want. I tend to do more in the week than at the weekend.
You all OK?

IDidNotKnowThat · 25/01/2015 12:41

All ok here! Not done much this weekend - there's a big hidey-stash of stuff in the living room that I might tackle, if I can find the energy! Otherwise it's not too bad atm (and we also have ongoing building works that kind of prevent true order being attained).

CMP69 · 25/01/2015 12:43

It's all gone very quiet. Perhaps every one is having a weekend off too busy cleaning to post Wink
I've done very little as we have a had a rare sunny (but cold) weekend so decided to get outside. Sadly that means that the house is full of muddy boots and washing, but we had fun and got some fresh air and exercise Grin

RunningKatie · 25/01/2015 13:11

I am still here but finding these weekend tasks overwhelming. I know they are in bite size chunks but I read them and think "eeeek".

I really need to catch up. Got my weekly dc free 70 mins tomorrow so will do a quick.surface clean and then try to tackle the backlog of tasks!

IDidNotKnowThat · 26/01/2015 13:12

I know what you mean - weekends are so hectic as it is, mind you, so are weekdays so there's never a good time for sorting stuff!

Overall tho, I have done more thanks to the Cure than if I hadn't been doing it - notably the big floor clean: that was a great start, the cupboard sort: that was well overdue, and the big kitchen clean, which prompted me to do a proper job for once in a short space of time, rather than little bits here and there.

So I'm glad I've been 'curing' - just wish I had a bit more time and less of a building site to work with!

Mitchdafish · 26/01/2015 16:08

Hi! I didn't do anything at the weekend either! Today I will just do some general post-weekend housework and appreciate the fact that it is easier now as quite a lot of spaces are clear. Relatively speaking...

UnrelatedToElephants · 26/01/2015 16:23

Today's catch up day, which for me means I've been cleaning the muddy hallway and making up the beds (we had guests at the weekend).

All that's left is washing up mountain, and then we're reset for the week.

nicknamenonsense · 26/01/2015 18:09

Hi everyone, I wasn't very well at the end of last week hence the lack of posts! I did make a start on the sitting room, everything came off the shelves, were dusted, culled then replaced but the rest of the room still needs a good sort out! I am actually very glad I have a get together planned for next Sat as I do think this will give me the motivation I need for the final push!!
I agree I have definitely done more as a result of the Cure so it has been a positive thing in this house. It has also really made me think about getting our house to reflect our style and family more.
Only one more week to go, we've come this far we can't stop now!!!

RunningKatie · 27/01/2015 13:38

I liked catchup day, except I am now in the midst of a cough & cold so instead of my Monday morning dc-free cleanathon, I lay on the sofa. Sad

However, felt better later and did a good cleandown of doors & frames. Curiously all the marks are at toddler height.......

I am glad I'm doing this, wondering if it's worth revisiting in July so house gets a good clearout twice a year. That would be amazing.

CMP69 · 27/01/2015 14:21

That's a fab idea to to a summer cure Katie I definitely haven't done as thorough a job as I'm sure was intended but the whole house feels better which is good enough for me Blush
My list of jobs is probably enough to keep us going for the rest of the year! I've just caught up on a bit of telly and put my shopping away this afternoon and it's nearly school pick up time. Might do a bit later

IDidNotKnowThat · 27/01/2015 15:40

Second that idea katie - one of us just needs to be organised enough to a) remember, and b) maybe post up on here so we can chivvy each other along!!

I'm also full of cold - I think I've had 2 one ofter another and it's getting a bit old now Hmm. So not done much... may try and tackle a small project today, just to keep some kind of momentum!

RunningKatie · 28/01/2015 13:59

Did anyone manage the digital declutter?

I've started leaving a few groups on FB but it's my inbox that's overloaded so I need to unsubscribe from some more mailing lists.

I used to keep it all up-to-date as DH worked away a lot, we had one dc and a little house. Recently, it's just built up.

Mitchdafish · 28/01/2015 14:45

Hi katie I only cleared my desktop, which meant filing quite a few docs that had been dumped there, however I had reduced my inboxes the other week.
Hope all colds etc. get better very soon - maybe the steamy shower will help?! I just read today's task and really fancy the steamy thing.
I am still proud as anything of my better house, I put my bag, coat and keys away properly when I walk in etc.

Mitchdafish · 30/01/2015 17:11

It's over! I took the whole outbag (new idea, ikea bag hanging under stairs) to a charity shop.
House is much better. Just got the spare room/study to sort.
I enjoyed having this list to come to, thanks everyone.
