Is anyone doing the January cure?

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

3 min sweep was good, DS grudgingly timed me. Doing more on the oven today, 11yo gas range, have rubbed all the temperature markings away from around the knobs. Floors still not completed!

IDidNotKnowThat · 14/01/2015 10:31

This kitchen task is certainly challenging!

nicknamenonsense · 14/01/2015 18:02

I'm determined to tackle the cupboard under the sink tonight, we can't let this kitchen task beat us!! Need to do some work for my DH's business so may barter some help from him too Wink

Will also try to do a 3 (or maybe 5) min sweep in the living room.

Did you all actually set a timer for your surface sweep

nicknamenonsense · 14/01/2015 21:11

Woohoo, the under the sink cupboard is done!! Nearly there with the kitchen, finally. ......

RunningKatie · 15/01/2015 12:56

I think my 3 min sweep was actually about 30 seconds, must try harder.

I am finding myself randomly cleaning bits of the kitchen but need to reread the kitchen task to see what I am supposed to be doing.

I have a friend coming over on Monday and her dc was premature so I want to have the living room very clean before they come. I think I may focus on that, depending on this weekends task.

It's great reading how everyone else is doing, it does help motivate me to continue.

IDidNotKnowThat · 15/01/2015 14:07

I'm afraid I totally blew off yesterday's task (and in fact the previous sweep task, but I tend to sweep regularly anyway, so not so guilty about that one).

However. I did receive a consignment of goodies for making scented candles, and made 4:, one unscented (to trial the wax and wick), one Pear & Freesia, one Orange, Amber & Coconut (trying to approximate the White Co 'Seychelles'), and one Orange, Bergamot & Vanilla. So I think that little lot makes up for my lack of progress on the project list Grin.

We are all so individual in our approach! Today I will do the smallest drawer I can think of which is my bedside table, been meaning to do it for years!
I had a day off the kitchen ans am still obsessing over floors. I unexpectedly bought some Vanish carpet cleaner which was in a lovely neon packetsomehow makes me think that the carpets are now clean, even though I can't see a difference (they just smell clean) and I avoid that sort of product. It felt like to only way to do something special, and I hope to replace them soon as they are ancient and gross.
Keep it up everyone, how's it going?

nicknamenonsense · 15/01/2015 15:26

Only one drawer today, I reckon we can all manage that! Currently at work musing over which one to tackle (probably one of the ones under my bed! )

I really agree Katie this is helping to keep me on track too Smile

The scented candles sound lovely Ididnot

Karbea · 15/01/2015 17:35

I did a drawer the other day, so missed today's task too. The tasks have been a bit wishy washy since the w/e :/
I wonder why there isn't a picture framing task this year? I had been looking forward to that.

RunningKatie · 16/01/2015 14:28

I have purchased a box today! I'm going to use it to put all the dc's cards in, as at the moment they are stuffed in my sock drawer.

This should help with yesterdays task too as it means I'll do both bedside drawers.

I've kept all my old mobile phones, they are decidedly retro now but does anyone know of a charity that takes them? I am such a hoarder and I want to set these things free!

nicknamenonsense · 16/01/2015 15:44

I don't know of any such charities Katie but try googling it.
Looking forward to the bedroom weekend, I am confident I can do this in a few hours as I have already done quite a lot of sorting in there this month (mainly as part of the floors weekend)

Mitchdafish · 16/01/2015 15:54

I've been glad for the rest in assignments as I'd not finished the floors, the bedroom is a welcome task as I can do the tidying/ windows in an hour max, and then make a big effort on the floor. Taking stuff out from under the bed is the grim bit but it needs doing, the bedroom was the room that I meditated on and the stuff is sort of sending me awful vibes as I sleep now!
I think I will get a candle, not flowers. Ididnotknow inspired me...

Karbea · 16/01/2015 19:06

I thought the bedroom task would be more challenging like the kitchen one was, I'm surprise by it actually :/ I was quite looking forward to going through all my cupboards and having a good ol' clear out.

nicknamenonsense · 16/01/2015 20:54

I suppose there's nothing to stop you doing that Karbea ;)
My lovely DH has started on the project this eve. I initially thought it was like getting someone else to do my job but I then thought that's ridiculous, this is about the house and we both live here! Anyway it means if I finally finish the kitchen this weekend and do my bedroom I will be pretty much up to date (although I didn't ever get around to doing that sweep! )
I've also liked that the tasks haven't been that daunting this week as it has helped keep me on track and stopped me from feeling like I was failing and therefore giving up

CMP69 · 17/01/2015 09:52

Wow well done folks Grin You all seem to have had productive week.
My kitchen is done and even DH agrees it is lots better and more logical. I didn't do a specific sweep but I tend to do that regularly. Not organised a social event but I started a new job a few months ago and have been thinking about having my colleagues around for a few glasses of wine and nibbles. Won't be by the end of the month, but I will do it.
Our bedroom is OK but a good deep clean never goes a miss and I'll do a drawer or two as well. Can't remember anything else but I think that's enough for the moment Wink

Mitchdafish · 17/01/2015 18:18

I made an enthusiastic start but found photo albums under the bed of DCs as babie and have ground to a sentimental halt...

IDidNotKnowThat · 17/01/2015 23:15

Well, I've nearly finished the kitchen...Hmm

nicknamenonsense · 18/01/2015 00:23

Me too! Nearly. ....
I keep thinking that the fact that it has taken me a week gives the impression that I either have a Downtown Abbey size kitchen ( which I don't) or am just lazy. The difference is lovely though Smile
Just one corner of DH 's stuff which he has promised to sort out tomorrow and it's done!!
Just the bedroom to get on with then...

Karbea · 18/01/2015 11:15

I'm going to make a start on the bedroom task today.

nicknamenonsense · 19/01/2015 00:16

Well I've done a great big zero on our bedroom this weekend!!! On the plus side the kitchen is still looking lovely and the bedroom is still miles better than it was last month due to the floors weekend so I'm not going to stress about it.
Hope you've all had a good weekend whether it has been productive in a 'Cure' sense or not

IDidNotKnowThat · 19/01/2015 11:43

I didn't do much either Blush - just a bit of tidying and sorting through a couple of drawers. Bedroom's not too bad in general, tho; the kitchen was a much bigger challenge! Need to have a massive straighten-up throughout tho, as DD's birthday this week, and will be 'entertaining' Hmm.

RunningKatie · 19/01/2015 13:41

I did two drawers this weekend. Also flipped mattress and changed sheets but haven't done most of the other things on the bedroom task.

I know they say we have more time at a weekend but we tend to go out rather than stay in and clean.

Overall though, I can see an improvement in the house so I'm keeping chipping away at it.

nicknamenonsense · 19/01/2015 16:55

Hmm, this evening we do.......?
What are we supposed to do when not watching tv, listening to the radio, using the Internet Hmm?
Don't they realise Monday night is Silent Witness!!

nicknamenonsense · 19/01/2015 20:04

Feeling ahead of the game for once as I have just cleared out and cleaned both cabinets in our bathroom Smile (no progress on the bedroom though!!)

CMP69 · 20/01/2015 07:45

Well no media fast here (that was never going to happen Blush ) Bedroom still needs a bit more work. Particularly the shelf in my wardrobe (handbags scarfs etc) so may do that this afternoon. How is everyone else doing?
