Is anyone doing the January cure?

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

OP posts:
Karbea · 09/01/2015 17:55

I've not done anything today.
I need to push on with the kitchen and maybe the study or landing cupboard. Actually feeling a bit overwhelmed with it today.

Mitchdafish · 09/01/2015 22:06

karbea keep your pecker up, it is the sort of thing you have to be in the right mood for, have the time for etc.... go and have a zen moment in your lovely loo. All I did today was 4 mins of meditating on the bedroom... I also spent a busy few minutes being grateful that the latest task didn't mention kitchen drawers.
Yes keep it up folks!

nicknamenonsense · 09/01/2015 22:22

Well I have pretty much done my cupboards that have food in. I was amazed and disgusted at the state of the small wall cupboard that houses tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. I started with that one as I thought it would be the easiest and it was gross!!
Have been at the cinema this eve so no cleaning done today, strangely almost looking forward to the big kitchen clean that I plan to start tomorrow, which is truly bizarre as cleaning is usually my least favourite thing to do. I may be back to normal by the morning Grin

Karbea · 10/01/2015 08:43

Morning ladies!
I'm still lounging in bed, but once I get up eat, take the dogs out I'm going to focus on the kitchen,
Going to start with the herbs then tea/coffee cupboard and then follow their list ie fridge etc.
I normally do my w/e shop on a sat am but dh wants takeaway tonight and I'm going to make soup from the random fridge finds for lunch, so the fridge won't be too full, so easier to clean and I can stay in all day and focus once I've exhausted the dogs.

IDidNotKnowThat · 10/01/2015 10:50

Morning all!

Started with the fridge last night - and found a jar of mint sauce dating from 2009 Hmm how is that even possible? We might be a bit slack but the fridge does get a yearly clean, minimum. Maybe I have developed a more ruthless eye!

Anyway, overnight I forgot I'd done it, and got a pleasant surprise when I opened the fridge this morning Grin

Out most of today but will try and pick at least one thing to sort when we get back.

Mitchdafish · 10/01/2015 11:06

I'm about to start an hour of kitchen cupboards, fridge and surfaces, just choosing the motivational music.

Karbea · 10/01/2015 11:06

Just back from taking the dogs for a walk, we got home and they ran upstairs with muddy feet all over my newly washed landing and bedroom carpets. Luckily I've still the stairs to do, so will just redo the muddy bits, it's impossible to keep my house clean.
Right, cup of tea to warm up and then daily clean, then kitchen attack.

nicknamenonsense · 10/01/2015 11:16

All your progress is motivating me to get started Grin

RunningKatie · 10/01/2015 11:22

Kitchen clean is postponed, sat on sofa with a poorly ds instead.

Hopefully he'll be back on top form tomorrow and I can get moving on the weekend task.

Mitchdafish · 10/01/2015 12:27

Best wishes to those who have needed to postpone / had challenges. My cupboards were awful. Plus tops of high cabinets - gross. Can't face oven. Bin bag of things to throw out though! Plus stuff for outbox.
Solidarity.
Maybe book oven cleaner for Feb after payday instead- will they do oven that has not been cleaned for 10 years? Or is it too humiliating?

Gautami · 10/01/2015 12:34

Thanks mitch it's gutting me that I'm sat here reading about you all cracking on. I was so up for it, but had to have an op on my foot on tues. Won't be active now for weeks. Just hope my enthusiasm is still there.

Re the oven, it is slightly humiliating, but so so worth it.

nicknamenonsense · 10/01/2015 13:47

Mitch they don't need to know it was you who hasn't cleaned it, you may have only just moved in Wink

Karbea · 10/01/2015 16:02

So far I've done the fridge, although typing this I've just realised I didn't do outside. Anyway, the cupboard where plates, bowls etc are kept, the dishwasher and under the sink - which was a nightmare! Onto the tea and coffee cupboard now.

Mitchdafish · 10/01/2015 16:32

I did half a job on the kitchen, will not get any more done now I doubt, beenat work this pm.
Love your oven cleaner replies! 'It seems as if thenlast tenants did not clean it at all!" - going to practice that in front of the mirror.
Getting DCs to do their floors is taking more determination than I have time for, especially now I am thinking of cooking lasagnes.
Gautami foot op? eep. Hope it goes well.

Karbea · 10/01/2015 16:48

I soooo bored of cleaning cupboards. Dh has been out clothes shopping, I feel like Cinderella!

nicknamenonsense · 10/01/2015 17:45

I've been out with my DH looking at vans. I think continuing with the kitchen clean would have been preferable!!
Nobody has mentioned flowers (or a substitute) Anyone rewarded / planning on rewarding themselves? I haven't so far unless you count the bottle of wine I have just bought in Aldi
Half the kitchen done and it does look better, planning on having the lot done by tomorrow eve. I think this is probably the toughest of the tasks, well I'm hoping it is!!

IDidNotKnowThat · 10/01/2015 17:55

Back home now - just want to sit and chill in front of the fire but am going to force myself to do something in the kitchen first! Will come and report back later...

Bought myself a small bunch of daffodils today Smile I love spring.

Mitchdafish · 10/01/2015 18:09

I have had a stiff gin as I was obsessing about being behind on the vacuuming. Now I am simply pleased that I have done what I have so far.
Also the gin has stopped me feeling like Cindarella, I can't expect everyone else to be on a cleaning frenzy. uncorks the gin again
No new flowers here, the couple of sprigs of box hedge are still looking good. I don't ever seem to actually look at flowers in the house. Perhaps a bottle of wine would have been better :-)
Yes to daffs! I do love them too. Keep it up everyone, we are awesome.

Karbea · 10/01/2015 18:35

I got some really pretty tulips yesterday, the recovered roses will need to be thrown away soon, but are still ok at the mo.
I've four top cupboards, the island (which has shelves and 7 drawers) cupboard over the fridge, and 3 drawers to do and Some shelves. I was hoping to do the utility room as well, but I put quite a lot of junk from under the sink in there so it's now a harder job :S
Kitchen does look loads better or at least it does if you look in the cupboards!
Retiring for the night now!

CMP69 · 10/01/2015 18:36

I had my oven cleaned a couple of years ago Mitch and the man actually sighed when he opened it Blush I made tea and disappeared up stairs. My steam cleaner keeps it presentable now but it could probably do with a deep clean again soon.
Kitchen well under way. Need to get to the fridge and cupboard tops tomorrow. My bargain tea roses are still going strong so I won't buy any more flowers yet (did buy a new parka but it was half price)
Sorry to hear about the struggles but sometimes life gets in the way of the best plans Sad
Looks like wine time here so I'm done for the day. Cheers folks Wine

IDidNotKnowThat · 10/01/2015 20:27

Right so I'm back!

Have cleared out one shelving unit, 3 storage bins in a unit, and 5 drawers-of-doom, and managed to chuck out a full bin bag of crap. My wine rack now contains wine (and non-alc alternatives as I am dry January-ing), and I actually have a drawer free Shock.

That's quite enough for today - time for tea and telly Wink.

Well done all, and Flowers to those who're Ill or have poorly kids, I hope you all feel better soon.

nicknamenonsense · 10/01/2015 22:17

No further progress here this eve but meant to add to earlier post that I took 13 cookbooks to the charity shop today!!!

Mitchdafish · 11/01/2015 10:44

Hi! I'm a bit stroppy because I want to clean under the beds and instead will accompany DH to visit his friends. I'm regressing into a teenager.
Apolgies for incorrect use of bold writing earlier. Still learning.

UnrelatedToElephants · 11/01/2015 10:52

Yesterday managed to clean the oven - for the first time since it was installed. Seeing how shiny it is really does make me smile Grin

I think today's job is to sort out the pan lids. They seem to multiply, and although there are hundreds you can never find the one that fits!

CMP69 · 11/01/2015 11:12

I'm doing nothing today might have had a little too much wine last night too tired. Off to London tonight for a couple of days so will check in mid week. Have fun Grin
