is your heating on yet?

Please help me solve an argument. I have a jumper on. It's chilly but not too cold yet. My flatmate thinks I should be happy to spend a fortune on heating. It's only early October but I'm not sure if it's just me being a Northerner!

Nope
Broken
Single glazed windows
Glad to hear about the warmer wetter winter this year!

LightastheBreeze · 08/10/2014 18:56

Yes, on in the evening since Saturday, thermostat set at 19c

soaccidentprone · 08/10/2014 18:58

I gave in and put it on at 1pm today. Our washing just wasn't drying, and old lady cat was cold.

Thermostat set to 16 normally.

About to have underfloor insulation, so I'll see what a difference that makes.

ouryve · 08/10/2014 19:00

I have the thermostat at the same level, all year round. The heating has been coming on, this week.

Makinglists · 08/10/2014 19:01

Nope - though I did but the fire on today for 20 mins - I was feeling rubbish though with a bad cold. Will try and hold out a bit longer!

OutOfCigarettes · 08/10/2014 19:01

Not yet, I'm comfortable in alight jumper and jeans and no small people have complained of cold yet. Planning to hold out till November of possible-purely because of the cost of heatingthe house. Although we had cavity wall insulation put in in March so looking forward to seeing the difference it makes to the bills

bumbumbee · 08/10/2014 19:10

Ours is on, we live in an old house with no insulation, DS has a cold and I'm nesh, it's been miserable here with rain and a mini tornado in the next village pulling up trees and taking off roofing. I don't understand waiting for a certain date either.

ouryve · 08/10/2014 19:14

I set mine at 22C for the evenings - which, given the placement of the thermostat, translates to about 18C, upstairs. It's a fancy one, which varies through the day. It's only set at 21.5, first thing and down to 20 during the day, when there's usually only me home. I only turn it down when we all go away for a few days.

currieaddict · 08/10/2014 19:18

Only in the morning so far but rural Scotland is down to freezing almost overnight now.

loveliesbleeding1 · 08/10/2014 19:31

I don't just yet, but I don't have little ones, just hardy teens!.

VeryThelma · 08/10/2014 19:34

Just put ours on its nice

BabCNesbitt · 08/10/2014 19:40

Ours is on, but we're in a crap damp house. We were living in a semi-arid climate last year and although it got as cold, it never felt as cold as it does here because there wasn't that constant damp feeling that you get when it's cold and drizzly here.

ohmymimi · 08/10/2014 19:57

No, it's not really cold here yet (rural Worcs.). If I'm sitting I just put on a fleece and/or body warmer, plus a blanket over legs, and pop a wheat bag in the microwave. Having a couple of ample cats draped over me helps, too. I always try to hold out until November, anyway, as early/mid autumn is so much milder now. But, I've been over-paying all summer so I have a credit cushion in case we have a really cold winter (Ovo pay 3% on credit balances).

KirjavaTheCat · 08/10/2014 19:58

Nope, duvets and fluffy socks here and it's a bit too warm for those IMO

Did you get a bit of rain this afternoon ohmy?! We had rivers running down the road. DS2 was walking home in it and then the thunder started. Sad Cats are very handy for being cuddly hot water bottles. Smile

amycreech · 10/10/2014 08:53

I always try to last out till oct half term. Not sure why.

FreckledLeopard · 10/10/2014 09:05

Not so far. I have, though, lit the woodburner for the past few nights, but that's free, since I rummage through skips and take wood!

Have two duvets on the bed and wear lots of layers around the house at the moment. Hot baths help too.

Am trying to hold off for at least another week or so.

TobyLerone · 10/10/2014 09:53

Yes, on a timer for a few hours morning and evening. I succumbed on Wednesday. I'm in the SE.

I think I could have held out longer but I have a 9mo and when she was napping on weds morning it was so cold it felt like there was an outside door open. I had to wrap her in her 2.5 tog sleeping bag.
