is your heating on yet?

Please help me solve an argument. I have a jumper on. It's chilly but not too cold yet. My flatmate thinks I should be happy to spend a fortune on heating. It's only early October but I'm not sure if it's just me being a Northerner!

I nearly did, I was inches from the thermostat but no, I put another hoodie on.

ilovepowerhoop · 07/10/2014 19:15

I turned the thermostat up so it has gone on a couple of times. Has been chilly here (Scotland)

Stratter5 · 07/10/2014 19:15

God no, we have sweaters on

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2014 19:15

I am not giving the energy company any more than they already get. Grin I was in credit last year.

Dolallytats · 07/10/2014 19:16

It's on for an hour because DH & DS are lightweights. I am much more hardy well padded than them and would rather wear a cardi.

Although, saying that, most people have got coats on while I'm still in t-shirt and sandals. I'm always overheating which isn't so bad in the Winter, but a nightmare in the Summer.

starsandunicorns · 07/10/2014 19:16

No heating on little windows still open dh does nights so when i get home its only a couple hours till i go to bed heating normaly goes a few hours between 4 and 6 am in mid dec had new windows put in a few months ago ( counicl flat) so it will be longer till heating goes on no dc here just us

Ilovexmastime · 07/10/2014 19:17

Not yet, but did resort to wearing my dressing gown to watch TV in last night.

Stratter5 · 07/10/2014 19:17

Same here Sparkling, they're getting as little of my money as possible

Fairylea · 07/10/2014 19:17

No here! Struggling at the moment so heating won't be going on for as long as we can get away with it for!

trinity0097 · 07/10/2014 19:17

Nothing on at home, but have organised for the heating to be on at school for a bit in the morning at take the chill off. Legally we have to as it was below 16 degrees this morning in classrooms and workplaces should be 16 or higher according to the HSE.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/10/2014 19:18

No, I'm in the south east. Heating won't go on for at least a month and will be off by March.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2014 19:18

I got a lecture off my Dad about how once it's on it should stay on with the thermostat turning it on and off, because it costs more to heat up from stone cold. Or was that the hot water? Something like that anyway. Grin

IAmAPaleontologist · 07/10/2014 19:19

meh. Not a competition. Ours has been on. solid fuel so no fire no hot water let alone heating. i love it when we can have the fire back on without boiling and stop having to use the kettle to wash up and the electric shower. Have had to deice the car a few times which qualifies it as getting pretty chilly in my book.

DaisyFlowerChain · 07/10/2014 19:24

Yes as its cold. I don't care what month it is, if I'm cold it goes on.

pregnantpause · 07/10/2014 19:24

No. No jumpers either. But I did ode the bedroom windows this morning as it was chilly overnight. I'll wait to November. I fear we may need it a lot later on as I think we are in for a very cold winter Confused

HemlockStarglimmer · 07/10/2014 19:25

We had the ceremonial switching on of the heating last night.

But it's only on for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening just now.

dexter73 · 07/10/2014 19:31

No need yet - my house is 20C at the moment.

Madaboutthrows · 07/10/2014 19:32

Heating on

LuckySaint · 07/10/2014 19:35

We have no heating to turn on
But the fire's been on for the past 2 days.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 07/10/2014 19:41

As of today, heating is on for when DCs get up (very early) and a bit when I work from home, and a bit at night.

I feel the cold though. I've got layers on and a fleecy blanket and my feet are still like blocks of ice.

Bearcatt · 07/10/2014 19:41

No not yet.
Did light the wood burner last night though for the first time this autumn the cat loved sunbathing in front of it!.
I can't be bothered to light it tonight, not so cold as last night I think.
Both DS's have left home, but if they were here I know I would turn it on so that they were warm, but DH & I are hardier souls & the reason we went for a wood burner was precisely to use at this time of the year to get one room warm & cosy & to keep us warm if Putin turns off the gas supply to Western Europe.Grin

Theysawus · 07/10/2014 19:43

I never quite get this. Our thermostat is set at 16.5 - if it's cold the heating comes on, be it November, March or August!

pebblestack · 07/10/2014 19:45

mine's nominally on now, but the thermostat only kicks in at 6am for an hour or so.

ShelaghTurner · 07/10/2014 19:45

None so far. It is cold but then to be fair I'm sitting in a vest top and shivering so there are a air few steps between me and the heating at the moment!

CremeEggThief · 07/10/2014 19:47

Nope, no need yet in County Durham. I just snuggle under a blanket on the sofa of an evening. Hoping to get through to November like last year, especially as we'll be on holiday the last week of this month! Grin
