is your heating on yet?

Please help me solve an argument. I have a jumper on. It's chilly but not too cold yet. My flatmate thinks I should be happy to spend a fortune on heating. It's only early October but I'm not sure if it's just me being a Northerner!

Bogey cos once you are properly dressed you can keep reusing the clothes. When gas is used it's gone.

Dapplegrey · 07/10/2014 20:57

No point - DH would just turn it off again.
We light the fire downstairs and the dcs and us have fires in our bedrooms when it's really cold as we have no heating upstairs.

LondonRocks · 07/10/2014 20:58

Quite. It's not a competition.

I hate feeling cold - I have low blood pressure and feel cold very easily. Nothing wrong with feeling comfortable.

Bogeyface · 07/10/2014 20:58

Well yes, assuming they were going to be bought anyway, but that comment infers they were bought specifically to stave off the fateful day when the heating goes on!

And Primark do better PJs than Next btw, nice warm brushed cotton Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2014 20:59

Primary do do lovely pjs :)

GoldenKelpie · 07/10/2014 21:04

We had new double-glazed porch and inner door fitted (directly into lounge), plus cavity wall insulation and loft insulation done a few years ago. It has made such a difference to keeping out the cold because we are not ready to put heating on yet (Scotland). It's certainly a bit cooler but I have a lovely big cardi and a fur throw to use first, before the heating is turned on.

I have however put heated seat on in car two days running... Grin.

I am a real weirdo the thought of a warm seat or bed is horrible. Sad I like my bed cool, and sleep with the window open all year round.

FitzgeraldProtagonist · 07/10/2014 21:08

Have fire am not touching the electric!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2014 21:17

I'm snuggled in bed with my wheat bag now. But I'm on operation 'beat my stupid cold and actually get some sleep' tonight and have just taken night nurse, so please ignore any ramblings. I also have vicks, water, tissues and two pillows (random addition to thread I know)

NotMrsTumble · 07/10/2014 21:18

Heating is ON! But in fairness it's on a thermostat so kicks in as and when the temperature drops. I will admit to tweaking the timer so that the "monitored" period has increased so that if it IS cold, the system has a chance to warm the house up before we get up, and on longer of an evening. Thankfully it's a new system and so reasonably energy efficient, unlike the 20-30 year old gas gobbler it replaced.

JubJubBirds · 07/10/2014 21:24

No, we're going to bed with joggers on. But we'll have to if the rain keeps up for a few more days. Being cold is nothing compared to being cold and wet and I dont want a damp mouldy home!

Wait4nothing · 07/10/2014 21:27

No heating here - I put bed socks, Christmas jumper, scarf and thick cardi on when I got in with a hot water bottle and coffee under a blanket on the sofa. DH put fire on when he got in (I couldn't be bothered so obv wasn't that cold!) I do like to snuggle though.

BlotOnTheLandscape · 07/10/2014 21:28

Yes, probably but I get cold toes and the heating doesn't help those and the DCs have outgrown last winter's pjs so needed some.

Kaekae · 07/10/2014 21:33

Yes it is on. No point in feeling cold when I have heating!

tawnyowlsrock · 07/10/2014 21:34

Oh yes definetly
I am always cold

Oldraver · 07/10/2014 21:34

It gave up the ghost yesterday...so we need a new boiler. It looks liek we will be heating less for a while.

DS came and asked me this morning, "could we please get the boiler fixed" as he was cold, like he was somehow in minus 5.

Dawndonnaagain · 07/10/2014 21:37

Gas fire on in the sitting room. Dds wandering around in t shirts told to put more clothes on!

mrsmilkymoo · 07/10/2014 21:43

Had it on first thing today but really only because I don't want dd (9 weeks) to get too cold.

Spidergirl77 · 07/10/2014 21:45

No, but the range is on. We have had a few fires, but it's not that cold yet, I do have fleecy pjs and warm slippers and a cosy blanket.

Never buy you pjs in next, primark everytime. Nice fleece pjs, not onesies they get cold on the loo. The best lounge wear ever.

It's 18 in the unheated rooms.

DramaAlpaca · 07/10/2014 21:48

I gave in & put it on yesterday, but only for a short while in the morning & the evening, and only the downstairs radiators.

JamaicanMeCrazy · 07/10/2014 21:52

No, we can't afford to put the heating on Sad

It's freezing here, I have 2 jumpers and hat/scarf and a blanket and in still cold.

I put tights on all the kids for bed (even ds) under their jammies and fluffy onsies on the top.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/10/2014 21:55

no heating yet. I had to darn the sleeve of my big woolly cardi and wear a blanket or two this morning but the sun came out and heated up the flat nicely. I have had the oven on tonight which has heated it up too, and I suspect the neighbours are putting their heating on which makes it nice and toasty here.

starfishmummy · 07/10/2014 21:58

We have used the hour boost button once or twice...

MindReader · 07/10/2014 21:59

Scotland here.
Not on yet, but I was cold last night and this morning.
Not giving in till 5 November, unless it snows.
Need new slippers though!
