is your heating on yet?

Please help me solve an argument. I have a jumper on. It's chilly but not too cold yet. My flatmate thinks I should be happy to spend a fortune on heating. It's only early October but I'm not sure if it's just me being a Northerner!

Yes briefly now the power's back on Grin

missknows · 07/10/2014 19:48

Just put mine on this evening. Wondering why I didn't do it sooner!

sanfairyanne · 07/10/2014 19:53

yep. i get cold air induced asthma now so we have to keep it warmer else i start coughing

LaurieFairyCake · 07/10/2014 19:54

Not yet but I have had to shut the window for the first time.

Next step, change flip flops for slippers.

soaccidentprone · 07/10/2014 20:03

We've just had new windows with triple glazing. It has made such a difference.

So no, no heating yet. Sat with pj's on, wooly socks and cardy, lovely and toasty warm Grin

Fatmanbuttsam · 07/10/2014 20:06

Heating is on here.....last two nights...I would rather have less chocolate and be warm and toasty

Ichneesanshee · 07/10/2014 20:07

Have put heating on today. Its on all the time but set pretty low so we don't turn to icicles or overheat - surprisingly easy to do either in our house! It usually takes me a few days to get the heating going through all the radiators as we seem to have the stupidest plumbing system going, but its actually doing it properly right off the bat this year.

Bogeyface · 07/10/2014 20:07

I wouldnt normally but the last few days have been really cold. It came to a head last night when DD2&3 were snuggled on the sofa, fully dressed with hats on under a duvet! DD3 wanted to keep her hat on in bed and bless her, her hands and feet were perishing.

So it is on, but low!

BlotOnTheLandscape · 07/10/2014 20:09

No, but I am tempted. We are holding out until November, but I have just ordered slippers and pjs from Next for everybody.

ilovechristmas1 · 07/10/2014 20:10

i dont get it either, people having a month or date when the heating goes on and not before

it comes on when it hits 16-17 here, has been on the last few mornings hasnt come on tonight but i have the real fire going in the front room

Bogeyface · 07/10/2014 20:10

I think it may feel colder because rather than a slow cool down, we have had a lovely warm September and then suddenly the temperature dropped so we are feeling it more.

Last week I got in my car and it said 16C, got in today and it said 8!

lavendersun · 07/10/2014 20:10

Woodburner lit for at least ten days at night and all day today as I was working from home. Heating is on a thermostat set to 14 and it has clicked on morning and evening for the last three days - it does feel a bit too hot for me when it is on though so I might turn it down to 12.

It was only 7 degrees here at lunchtime yesterday.

colleysmill · 07/10/2014 20:11

No although I might pop the electric blanket on to take the chill out the bed tonight.

We've camped in colder weather :)

UriGeller · 07/10/2014 20:13

Not cold enough here yet (cheshire) and I hate being cold! the kids are running about in tshirts but I'm wearing leggings, chunky socks, long sleeved top and jumper.

bonzo77 · 07/10/2014 20:15

Dh (northerner) had it on yesterday. I switched it off. Do have elec blanket on the bed though, and probably will put vests on children tomorrow.

Ilovenicesoap · 07/10/2014 20:15

Heating will be off until it gets to about 5 degrees.
I hate it,it gives me headaches.
If you are ill or elderly you will need to keep warm though.
No idea why its a competition ,sometimes its necessary.

Bunbaker · 07/10/2014 20:16

Heating on here as well. I go by temperature not the calendar. I can't function and am extremely miserable if I am cold.

We got to the dizzy heights of 9 degrees during the day here and wearing a several jumpers is just not enough for me.

EleanorAbernathy · 07/10/2014 20:17

We cracked tonight - the thermostat said it was 13 degrees in the front room, and I could see my breath so figured it was time!

We've insulated and switched to a cheaper energy deal since last year so should be more managable.

Biffabin · 07/10/2014 20:19

Not yet because I'm going camping this weekend so need to be hardy for that Wink

I slept with the window closed last night though because I was cold.

My heating once it is on is on constant but for some reason it fires up twice a day whether it's below the temperature on the thermostat or not so I turn it off completely in the summer then turn it on again once I feel it's getting chilly, usually October ish but depends on the weather.

QueenFuri · 07/10/2014 20:19

I've had it on for an hour its nice and warm now but I've got a headache.

Bakeoffcakes · 07/10/2014 20:20

The type of house you're in makes a lot if difference.

It's times like this I dream if a nice new, well insulated, double glazed house. We're in a Tudor cottage and it may look pretty but it does not retain heat. Our heating has been on since the weekend and I do have a sweater and a scarf on. (I'm saving the thermals until nov). I hate being cold. It makes me miserable.

Artandco · 07/10/2014 20:20

Ours just turns on when it gets under 18 degrees. No way to turn off so will come on in July in temp drops

Artandco · 07/10/2014 20:21

Biff- camping!!!
