is your heating on yet?

Please help me solve an argument. I have a jumper on. It's chilly but not too cold yet. My flatmate thinks I should be happy to spend a fortune on heating. It's only early October but I'm not sure if it's just me being a Northerner!

I'm in thermals plus a jumper, still cold so I put the heating on. We only heat one room at a time though.

The cat will have a hot water bottle tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2014 20:27

Now I know autumn is here - I was wondering where the annual discussion was Grin
It's 19c in here so the heating is not on. but I did have a good raynauds attack earlier so my body may be disagreeing with reason

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2014 20:28

Woah waswondering, 84mm? That's a dramatic start to the season.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2014 20:29

OYBBK is there a thread about the terrible winter ahead DH seems to have heard about? Shock Sad

FourthMary · 07/10/2014 20:29

Not on yet, Sat here under a blanket. Main reason being I don't think it's going to work when we do switch it on. Would rather not have the headache of trying to get it fixed just yet.

Can't wait til our very old double glazing is replaced. Dd pointed out we have gaps where she can see daylight. No wonder its not doing its job properly.

wooooosualsuspect · 07/10/2014 20:32

Yes it's on.

I'm not sitting around in several jumpers and a hat when I can put the heating on.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2014 20:33

What terrible winter sparkling? Met office are currently going for it to be most likely for it to be warmer and wetter than average over the next 3 months. Mind you, not sure I can vouchsafe for their track record on these matters!

MiddletonPink · 07/10/2014 20:33

I've had it on in the kitchen whilst making dinner. Now I've got the fire on in the lounge. But I've got a hot water bottle behind my back as it's aching so that's keeping me warm.

TwinkleMcSnowypants · 07/10/2014 20:35

Ours is not officially on yet so it won't come on in the morning but I have out in on for about an hour a day the last few days just to take the chill off!

wooooosualsuspect · 07/10/2014 20:36

The cat has taken up residence on top of the kitchen radiator,so hes happy.

His source was 'someone at work' OYBBK. Warmer and wetter sounds good to me, as long as we aren't talking flooding.

Ragwort · 07/10/2014 20:37

No - but my DH who feels the cold a lot more than I do is huffing and puffing and making out he is 'freezing' - Grin - I am quite comfortable Smile. He's put an extra duvet on his bed (we sleep separately because I like the window open and just a light weight cover Grin).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2014 20:37

We certainly don't want a last winter. What we saved in fuel we more than paid for in roof repairs.

Ogress · 07/10/2014 20:39

Yes, it is - happily, the couple I lodge with don't stint their wee comforts. When I lived alone I was working my jumper collection until I could see my breath indoors.

vanessalightyear · 07/10/2014 20:40

yes put it on for the first time for an hour this morning.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/10/2014 20:46

We are hundreds of pounds on credit so I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about heating and using the dryer this year. Just turned on the heating tonight. Would have left it longer but we have a small baby. Have been using fan heater for a few minutes in the evenings for a couple of weeks now, and when bathing or fully changing the baby.

AnnOnymity · 07/10/2014 20:47

We've got the aga on now so the kitchen is lovely and warm but most of the house is cold . 15 degrees in the sitting room. We've put in an extra jumper. Going to try and go hold out until November with heating.

SmileAndNod · 07/10/2014 20:50

No. Have been cold for a couple of days but can't have it on yet. Need to hold out as long as possible.

Bogeyface · 07/10/2014 20:51

We are holding out until November, but I have just ordered slippers and pjs from Next for everybody.

Whats the point? How much did that little lot come to? More than a months worth of heating I would bet!

MrsBertMacklin · 07/10/2014 20:52

Not yet, but I'm in a new-build flat on the top floor, so it rarely needs to go on before mid-November.

Hulababy · 07/10/2014 20:53

We don't really turn ours off. It tends to just stay on the thermostat which we make sure is set quite low.

Though last day or two it has definitely been on an it is on tonight.

I hate being cold. And being cold makes my arthritis hurt more.

We have the heat on, its the hot water, so its never really off is it? the only radiators that have been turned on were the bathrooms, on low to dry the room and the towels. Might turn them up a bit.

The older cat (18) is sitting by the dial one of the radiator in the lounge. Do you think she is hinting? Poor old thing, i may turn it on a bit so she can sleep under it. But not both.

Hot water bottles all around tonight.
