carrotsandcelery

Just for you, croissant recipe [ahem].

Buy frozen ready made but not proved croissants from local farm shop.
Place on greased tray overnight to rise
Put in hot oven for 10mins.

Grin

Now you come to mention it, I've never made croissants from scratch. hmmmm. I really want to tackle choux pastry next but there never really seems to be a time to make them.

carrotsandcelery · 20/01/2012 13:58

Ha ha! And there I was so impressed cairnterrier Grin

I have made choux pastry before and chocolate gnache (or whatever it is called). They were lovely but it was pretty time consuming I think.

I am making bessie's falafel burgers and sweet potato wedges for tea tonight. I have fried them in a smidge of olive oil and will put them in the oven with the wedges later on.

It is a very simple and inexpensive recipe so fx it tastes good. I need to get some salad things when I do pick up.

How were yours the other night bessie?

The falafel burgers were yummy, I've made them a few times & they haven't failed me yet!

I am just about to go get my legs waxed, and have a facial. I would be more relaxed if I hadn't had to leave the house when DH was seeing if DD2 would "settle herself" I.e. she was crying in her bed (I suspect teeth) & he had left her to it

bessie26 · 20/01/2012 14:18

PS here is my croissant recipe:

  • get DH to take out of freezer when he makes morning tea
  • get DH to put in oven when we all come downstairs
cairnterrier · 20/01/2012 14:21

The felafel burgers sound delicious, will try making them tomorrow after proper food shop.

Am currently being a bad mummy as DS is sitting in front of Mr Bloom but, DS IS eating an apple, with the SKIN ON. This is A Good Thing.

Oh and it's not bl*dy Ppp Pg that he's watching.

BlackCatTryingToFly · 20/01/2012 15:27

Me again, I'm back home now after getting some food shopping.
I have only done some kitchen clearing today and still not finished Blush.

Carrots just wondered if you have ever made Jamie's Baked french potatoes?
(in his ministry book).
I am thinking of giving them a go.

carrotsandcelery · 20/01/2012 16:21

I haven't tried it yet BlackCat. Let me know if it is worth a go.

bessie26 · 20/01/2012 16:34

Do you mean these? I used to do something like that years ago, but with veg underneath... Yummy!

Haha cairn DD1 will usually take a couple of bites before she remembers about the skin, then I have to peel it & by then she's lost interest & I end up eating it.

carrotsandcelery · 20/01/2012 16:38

That is the recipe bessie - it is exactly the same picture in the book and everything.

It does look tasty.

I have no idea what I would serve it with though.

We have the opposite problem with apples these days. The dcs like Pink Lady apples which are tasty but pricey. They are also usually huge. The dcs munch about 2/3 of them and then they are left and the guinea pigs get very expensive left overs.

hi all!
i am soooo disappointed by the croissants!!!!

carrotsandcelery · 20/01/2012 17:07

Hi zoo - it sounds like you are really making progress. I love that feeling when you see the room reappear and everything starts to feel under control.

Is this the website you mean pink whisk? I shall have a browse.

The falafel smell fantastic and I had a sneaky wee taste of the tiny little bit left in the food processor which I cooked with the rest and it was delicious.

I am going to tell ds that they are crabbie patties as he loves Sponge Bob (I can't stand him) and is desperate to eat a crabbie pattie.

Evening all.

I often put the washing machine, dishwasher on when I'm going out/at night so they're ready to un/reload by the time I get back/up. Shock.

Our smoke alarm is regularly tested though, at least once a week when I cook anything under the grill

I have finally made it to the decluttering stage the last 2 days. I am feeling quite liberated already and i've only done one shelf of a bookcase! Serious sorting and chucking of magazines was involved though.

carrotsandcelery · 20/01/2012 18:36

Decluttering is the best stage of this whole process. I love it. The more stuff I can get rid of the better.

Can we add the smoke alarm to our schedule somehow? Should we maybe set a day each week to check it and all remind each other? How about Saturdays - I say this because I will have to stand on a chair on the landing to do one of them and I would rather do that with another adult in the house. Dh is rarely in before the dcs go to bed through the week.

OP posts:
bessie26 · 20/01/2012 19:11

Saturday smoke check sounds good to me. We change the batteries in the smoke alarm when we change the clocks.

Strangely, I won't have the tumble dryer on at night or when we're out, but I do have the washing machine & dishwasher on. I've discussed this with DH before & he pointed out that if the dishwasher were to burst into flames, it's probably better it happens when we're not in the house!

Surely having the slow cooker on is just like having a lamp or radio on?

Scout19075 · 20/01/2012 19:24

Hello everyone. No flying for me today but I came down to my ILs' armed with a to do list!

carrotsandcelery · 20/01/2012 19:24

I have been thinking about this one. What would I do if it had burst into flames and I was there? I have no idea other than phoning the fire brigade and dashing outside.

If I am out and the dog and guinea pigs were in the house though Sad and if you live in a flat, terrace, semi then it is also a risk to your neighbours I imagine.

OP posts:
bessie26 · 20/01/2012 19:38

Well done with the decluttering Dlamis, I find it very satisfying, but I get a bit annoyed that I hadn't done it earlier! What are you going to do next?

zoo I am Shock that you don't have a vacuum, I use one on all my hard floors, you must be a wizz with your broom!?

Glad the falafel burgers went down well carrots - you must try doing them in the slow cooker, it really does work!

BlackCatTryingToFly · 20/01/2012 19:46

Hi all, just reading through the thread and notice your talking about fires.

The firemen told me:
to always make sure you know where your front door keys are.
make sure your mobile phone is charged and near you (especially at night).
Pull toasters from under cupboards when on.
I know some of that is stuff you might do anyway but I just thought I'd share it.
Once we had a washing machine spark and make a big bang noise. DH was home at the time (I was out) luckily it didn't catch fire.

Yes, bessie carrots that was the Jamie recipe. (Good website you linked Bessie)
I made it but half way through starting to chop up stuff realized that one of the onions was no good and had to bin it. I added some cheese to it. I also had no parsley. I think I'm turning out to be a chuck it together cook and hope for the best!
It turned out o.k. though.

Dlamis · 20/01/2012 19:52

bessie - you're right, it is satisfying. Next is.......the rest of the bookcase(s).:o
We have alot of bookcases and even more books and magazines than will fit on them. It could take a while. Confused

Must add my croissant recipe.
Go to shop
Buy croissants
Take home
Unwrap
Add jam if required
Eat.

Works for me anyway :o

cairnterrier · 20/01/2012 22:11

Oh dear :(

So I've managed to upset everyone by posting non-existent croissant recipes and now worrying everyone about fires. Although a weekly check of the smoke alarms is a good idea.

Hmm. Umm. Chocolate anyone? Brew? Wine?

Stands in naughty corner

BlackCatTryingToFly · 20/01/2012 22:25

You haven't upset anyone. Smile Or at least I don't think you have!
