It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

[clinks glasses with Blue Glad you are feeling better* and thanks for last round-up of the month (sniff)]

Hope all of you who are feeling below par start to feel better soon.

So much for a cracking start in the morning. Bit disappointed in how little I got done today. Didn't manage ANY cleaning or bed-changing at all.

Did gather together and name all the school supplies plus label new gym kit and bag etc and dd's uniform is sitting ready, ironed on the bathroom chair for the morning. And at least she is clean, with a scrubbed neck. This all took far longer than anticipated.

I was going to look back at my plans for the eight weeks of summer which I think now were ludicrously ambitious and see how badly I've failed at most of them, but happily, I can't locate them in the past two threads!! This is probably a blessing in disguise.

See you in the morning on the September thread!

today I have
done
children for a series of brief walks
despatched Ds1 by himself to recharge Oyster card and take bus halfway to school and back ALL BY HIMSELF (nasty series of traffic crossings so I told him to use a specific bus stop - he paid absolutely no attention and used a different one, just shows best to train them by DOING rather than give them any information as they invariably forget it Hmm Will have to do route with him tomorrow again.
chinese takeaway for supper (now have indigestion Blush
two washes
two bathrooms
serious school work with ds1
felt rather fed up with ds2 however who is trying my patience by just being ODD (not an acronym)
sent two letters and bought stamps, remembered birthday card for goddaughter who is 17 (or is it 18? Crikey, perhaps it was, need to rethnk present which have not yet purchased Blush

Feet molluscum is so horrid isn't it, ours finally passed, it is so lovely to think they can never ever get it again. Dd seems to be growing up too, v tall, but so far it only takes the form of a tremendous interest in JW plotlines, and dislike of ds2 who she finds embarrassing.
There is a sequel to Hetty Feather coming out end of Sept, Sapphire Battersea; I can't wait to read it!

SC I remember your list! Wink
Well all I know is that this summer I still didn't get to:
force the children to do drawings of wildflowers and butterflies try as I might Wink
buy a proper table for cottage in Ireland so we never had anyone to lunch Sad
swim in lake even once (which is why I am not now on the Lemsip like the rest of you, thank goodness)
make any jams or chutneys from fruit in my mum's garden
write letters to any friends from cottage
go to ANY London museums though I swore I would

however I managed a
read a BIG book
sort out a longterm car in Ireland which all five of us justabout squeezed into
keep up wth friends by text rather than imagining myself cut off from civilization
tidy dd's room for forseeable future
do some running
do some painting in Ireland
enjoy the company of many dogs!

Swan - welcome back! I have been doing practise runs with DS1 for school too. Made him walk all the way there and cross the roads on his own, whilst I timed the trip and worried about his road sense (or lack of). He is very cautious mostly, then just forgets and wanders across the road without looking Shock. I'm so worried that I have even downloaded a copy of the Green Cross Code for children and am forcing him to go through it with me.

Blue - thanks so much for leading the thread this month. Glad Zumba cheered you up again.

Am still ploughing through endless daily lists at the moment. I won't bore you all with them! I'm sticking to my basic FLYing routines, which are really paying off. I think getting dressed first thing really helps me. It seems to galvanise me into action. But mainly, I'm getting ready for school on Monday and trying not to fret too much about it (I am, of course) or to let DS1 know that I'm fretting (which he does, of course) Confused.

Do we have a new thread for next month? I'll have a quick look. Then it's off to the chemist for worm tablets. Spent a substantial part of last night trying to calm DS2 down as he wailed about his itchy bottom Sad. No sign of any worms, thank goodness, but I'm going to treat it as if it is and see if that works.

Sorry for being so rubbish at personal messages at the moment. It's hard to keep up. Maybe when the boys are back at school I'll have more time again.
