It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Good evening, so terribly sorry but still not caught up properly. Just about to try and put some slap on to get ready to go out.

My general mood has not improved. DDC have argued all day, bickering. DH has been at work.

Never mind should have a nice time tonight.

Just want to update my list quickly.

get ready for going out to an adult party tonight. Champagne and cocktails if we decide to be extravagant and get a taxi all the way.-just about to.

Have a lovely night. I will make time to catch up with all you lovely ladies tomorrow.

ps welcome rowing Grin

BlueEyeshadow · 28/08/2011 19:18

Sorry I didn't make it back on last night. ILs cooked us a lovely anniversary dinner. :)

Now back home, drowning in packing and a lettuce glut from the garden. Will be back later with links and round up, promise!

nettie sorry you've had such a rubbish day- hope the DCs' stop bickering soon- its draining isn't it?

CHBitchyIceDragons · 28/08/2011 20:36

Rowing - me and routines are not good friends. I still to a few of the basics - 15mins and declutter, declutter, declutter. Also trying to do a little bit an often. But tbh i really struggle with this and still work in bursts. Loads and loads then absolutely bugger all.

Erm sorry I think I said i would post the babystep and then completely forgot Blush

Thanks NickNack!!!

Bugger Nettie. Have a good evening.

Ds is BACK!!!! GrinGrinGrin.

Got some but not all of my list done.
Curtains, cushions and room all done. Going to grab some tea and slay some WIPs. My room doesn't stand a chance until next week when school goes back.

I declare the BARRRRR open. Drinks in the naughty corner Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/08/2011 21:12

Just popping in to say hello, back from Scotland, half unpacked, feel like shit, having had a cold all week (it hasn't spoiled the holiday, but has left me feeling fairly done in). Hoping to get back on track from tomorrow.

CHB - will join you in the naughty corner

BlueEyeshadow · 28/08/2011 22:01

Mostly unpacked, lettuce mostly tamed and in the fridge?

So, what else is up in Fat Fairy-land?

CHB has been busy with decorating and crafting and now has DS back.

ellie discovered that house bleugh works better upside down. Sorry the GCSE results weren?t so good. What do you teach? I have a vague idea it might be history, but don?t know where I picked that up from.

Toffee has been visiting family and was heading home to label and prepare things.

Fuzzled had a bad morning yesterday. Hope today was better and grr to dealership!

PA was going out on the town. Grin at Harold & Hilda! Hope you had a lovely time. Good news on results.

MC has avoided an argument, bought PE kit and a new hoover.

Nettie was going out too. Hope the champagne flows!

rowingboat was wondering about adapting flylady around a fear of routines. Fear of flying?!

NickNacks - thanks for posting the link. Yes, had a lovely time and Grin at stinky kids!

WhoKnows staggered in back from Scotland. Hope you feel better soon. Here Brew ? have some more lemsip!

And here come the links:
Babystep: enjoy the weekly pamper mission.
Mission (when it updates) ? don?t know what this is yet, but we?re moving into the living room.

Sneak peek for the week should also update tomorrow.

Right, I?m off to join CHB and WhoKnows for a swift night-cap in the bar? Night all.

Hi guys
I haven't been on here much as I've actually been out of the house :o

Yesterday I went to the rugby (we lost :( ) and then out after for drinks but not too many but great fun dancing (do you think the fat fairy would let me write that off as loving movement? :o ) and then today off to the gaelic football. Dublin won so are in the final for the first time since 95 so delighted :o dp is out for drinks now so can relax on mn catch up on flying.

In and around all that, today I have
Up and dressed
Swish and swipe
Attempt to take limescale off shower by doing the kitchen roll and vinegar trick
Talked to my mother about a hundred times
Ironed clothes for dp to wear out, though the iron broke halfway through the jersey Angry
Done dishwasher
Done a wash
Sorted out dd1 and dd2s clothes for giving away (being collected tomorrow)
Washed dd2, dd1 refused, what's that about? Do kids like being smelly?Confused
Decluttered 2presses in the kitchen which allowed me to clear some counter space by putting my mixer in.

busy busy here
Plans for tomorrow are:
up
dw
wm (holidays washing)
call dd1s friend's au pair re play date
call dr to make appt (skin, throat, vaccinations)
buy dd1 whole new winter wardrobe
arrange to meet other mum to collect dd1s old clothes
call tradesman to fix cutains in sitting room and dd1s bedroom

waves to everyone, too lazy tired to do personals :o

SilveryMoon · 29/08/2011 07:31

Morning.
Sorry I've not been on, I've got a bit of a cold and feel like crap.
Not sure how much I will be doing today, but here's a list in case I pick up.

TO DO
Shower and dress
Swish and swipe
Make beds
Finish yesterdays washing up
Mop living room floor
Ironing
What's for dinner?
Tesco
Mission
Clean kitchen
Lay out tomorrows clothes

See how I get on.
Sorry, I've not caught up Blush still got headache

Fuzzled · 29/08/2011 08:03

First, hi to rowing and welcome.

Yesterday was written off due to DH being a little "fragile" after his lads day out. Still, I managed to cook a massive fry-up for him and his mate (first time that everything was cooked and ready at the same time Smile), so that was brownie points for me, in addition to the points I got for having to deal with the car on Saturday. All this adds up to me having a night out on Friday with the "girls" and being able to write Saturday off Grin

This morning has gone quite well so far. DH got DS when he woke so I got to shower and dress in peace. I have moisturised legs for the first time in a few weeks!

So here's today's to/ta-da list:
Shower & dress - done
DS up/dress/breakfast - done
Strip our bed for washing - done
Washing - 1st lot on, big pile still to go
S&S - done

Work - when DS snoozes
Dust & hoover downstairs
Make dinner

Tickle DS until he giggles hysterically - done, but worth repeating ad nauseum! Grin

Anyway, have fun ladies. waves to all

elliepac · 29/08/2011 08:26

Morning all!

Didn't get on yesterday as we had a lovely family day out at Sundown Adventureland. I know some of you know it but it is this brilliant little place just for the under 10's and my two had a whale of a timeSmile.

Today the dc's and I are heading off to the caravan for a few days with dsis and dniece for a few days to enjoy the last week of the hols (dsis is also a teacher, it runs in the family, DF was a teacher as wellGrin). This morning will mainly consist of shelling out a huge amount of money to get DH's van fixed and packing to head off at lunchtime.

blue yes, your suspicion was correct I am Head of History. You are psychic Grin.

Fuzzled well on coping so admirably with a hungover DH. I normally just ignore DH when he is hungover as he is very grumpy Grin. It doesn't happen very often though so I don't mind.

Anyway, I shall wave goodbye for a few days as the reception is crap at the caravan and I shall see you in Septembet when all flying will go to shit as I am back at workGrinGrin.

Toffeefudgecake · 29/08/2011 10:07

Have a great hol, Ellie.

Managed to unpack everything yesterday and do all the washing as well Shock!

Stayed up far too late last night, making lists and planning things. My head is whirling with things to do. Also started the labelling - will try to do a little every day I think.

Too much to do, so am going to stick to a list of three today:

Put the rubbish out
Take boys swimming (and practise the walk to secondary school with DS, as it is on the same route)
Buy something for dinner

Sorry for lack of personals - must rush!

Fuzzled · 29/08/2011 11:48

Ladies! I need help! Blush

Where in tarnation have I put my paintbrush that I bought to help me clean? (think dust in corners of panelled glazed doors) I had it in my hand when the phone went - and now I can't find it!

I mean, I know that if I'm desperate DS will find it for me and then chew it and scream because I take it from him Grin but, I'd like to find it before then as it's covered in polish Sad and I'm having to resort to a toothbrush for the corners and it just isn't as good (being done before DS is up is also important Smile)

So, where have I put it?! Hmm

NettieSpaghetti · 29/08/2011 12:20

fuzzled it's under the loaf of bread on top of the fridge Grin

Fuzzled · 29/08/2011 12:45

Nettie that is a truly excellent suggestion, with only a few drawbacks.

No bread in house atm, when there is, it's in a box next to the toaster, and... I can't reach the top of the fridge without a step.

Did make me look up there though! Grin

BlueEyeshadow · 29/08/2011 13:11

Next to the phone?

OP posts:
CHBitchyIceDragons · 29/08/2011 13:23

Next to the phone, the comfy chair you sat on whilst talking on phone, or next to the kettle?

have a lovely time Ellie!

Today I am mainly facilitating a budding engineer and laying to rest some old electronic/machinery type stuff. Consequently I have an over excited ds Grin

Anything else will be considered later, uch later Grin

Fuzzled · 29/08/2011 13:25

You'd think Wink

No clue and DS hasn't found it yet! Hmm

Will have a proper hunt when he has his pm nap, but totally clueless. Wasnt even a good phone call either - some sales pillock trying to sell me solar panels. I live in the NE of Scotland. Confused Idiot man.

Fuzzled · 29/08/2011 13:30

And as I hit send, DS found it in his toy box next to the phone Grin

Cue screaming as I nicked it from him! Blush

CheerfulYank · 29/08/2011 15:55

Hello, can I join again? Blush

I was doing okay for awhile and then was hideously derailed by house renovations. Ugh.

Anyway, my only goals for today beyond the usual (get dressed etc) are to find a home for all the clothing lying around and to clean out my refrigerator. And will do the mission for the day. :)

Fuzzled · 29/08/2011 16:17

Hello CheerfulYank come on in and pull up a chair.

DS just woken but will return later Smile

madwomanintheattic · 29/08/2011 17:51

Stillcrackers · 29/08/2011 17:56

[SC dumps wet towels, manky jodphurs, suitcases and general clobber in naughty corner]

Just dropping in to say we are back. Had lovely time near Moselle, riding, walking, tennis, swimming. Unfortunately dh has to start work again tomorrow.

Loads to do (friends coming over in ten minutes) but just wanted to pop in and say hello to all you lovely fledglings. Full day planned tomorrow but will definitely be back on Wed to catch up properly and sort Sept thread etc!!!

Have a lovely evening everyone!!

Stillcrackers · 29/08/2011 18:02

Madwoman for your sins I would like you to say five Hail Mary's and waft a microfibre cloth around a bit Grin

Welcome back! And to CheerfulYank

Blue you have set a frighteninglly high and consistent round-up standard indeed!! I'm worried about letting the side down now!!

Have a great holiday Ellie Welcome back from holiday Whoknows!

Sorry no more personals - got to go and clear a path through the clobber for our visitors...

Looking forward to catching up with eveyrone on Wednesday though. School starts again on the 1st [arrrgggh]

madwomanintheattic · 29/08/2011 18:18

right. gotta get orf mn for a bit. the living room/ dining room are getting the Purge treatment today.

oh, although. i've been faffing about trying to get rid of stuff out of the kitchen. i mean, we've got three houses worth of kitchen utensils rammed into our cupboards/ drawers, everywhere. we have five fish slices, for example. i took them out of the drawer thw other day, meaning to keep two and ditch three, and dh nearly had a coronary. apparently, he uses one for flipping pancakes, one is for... actually i can't even remember, but he had five completely different reasonas for needing to keep all the damned fish slices. see what i'm up against?

gah. i'll purge whilst he's out.
