It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Yes, I remember you commenting on it Swan and giving me some good advice. Well done on all the things you HAVE accomplished!! I'll have to find my summer project list now ....!!!

Sorry Toffee I know you've already found us but neglected to post link here. Will do so in case anyone else is searching ....

New September thread here!

Swan - welcome back! I have been doing practise runs with DS1 for school too. Made him walk all the way there and cross the roads on his own, whilst I timed the trip and worried about his road sense (or lack of). He is very cautious mostly, then just forgets and wanders across the road without looking Shock. I'm so worried that I have even downloaded a copy of the Green Cross Code for children and am forcing him to go through it with me.

Blue - thanks so much for leading the thread this month. Glad Zumba cheered you up again.

Am still ploughing through endless daily lists at the moment. I won't bore you all with them! I'm sticking to my basic FLYing routines, which are really paying off. I think getting dressed first thing really helps me. It seems to galvanise me into action. But mainly, I'm getting ready for school on Monday and trying not to fret too much about it (I am, of course) or to let DS1 know that I'm fretting (which he does, of course) Confused.

Do we have a new thread for next month? I'll have a quick look. Then it's off to the chemist for worm tablets. Spent a substantial part of last night trying to calm DS2 down as he wailed about his itchy bottom Sad. No sign of any worms, thank goodness, but I'm going to treat it as if it is and see if that works.

Sorry for being so rubbish at personal messages at the moment. It's hard to keep up. Maybe when the boys are back at school I'll have more time again.

SC I remember your list! Wink
Well all I know is that this summer I still didn't get to:
force the children to do drawings of wildflowers and butterflies try as I might Wink
buy a proper table for cottage in Ireland so we never had anyone to lunch Sad
swim in lake even once (which is why I am not now on the Lemsip like the rest of you, thank goodness)
make any jams or chutneys from fruit in my mum's garden
write letters to any friends from cottage
go to ANY London museums though I swore I would

however I managed a
read a BIG book
sort out a longterm car in Ireland which all five of us justabout squeezed into
keep up wth friends by text rather than imagining myself cut off from civilization
tidy dd's room for forseeable future
do some running
do some painting in Ireland
enjoy the company of many dogs!

today I have
done
children for a series of brief walks
despatched Ds1 by himself to recharge Oyster card and take bus halfway to school and back ALL BY HIMSELF (nasty series of traffic crossings so I told him to use a specific bus stop - he paid absolutely no attention and used a different one, just shows best to train them by DOING rather than give them any information as they invariably forget it Hmm Will have to do route with him tomorrow again.
chinese takeaway for supper (now have indigestion Blush
two washes
two bathrooms
serious school work with ds1
felt rather fed up with ds2 however who is trying my patience by just being ODD (not an acronym)
sent two letters and bought stamps, remembered birthday card for goddaughter who is 17 (or is it 18? Crikey, perhaps it was, need to rethnk present which have not yet purchased Blush

Feet molluscum is so horrid isn't it, ours finally passed, it is so lovely to think they can never ever get it again. Dd seems to be growing up too, v tall, but so far it only takes the form of a tremendous interest in JW plotlines, and dislike of ds2 who she finds embarrassing.
There is a sequel to Hetty Feather coming out end of Sept, Sapphire Battersea; I can't wait to read it!

[clinks glasses with Blue Glad you are feeling better* and thanks for last round-up of the month (sniff)]

Hope all of you who are feeling below par start to feel better soon.

So much for a cracking start in the morning. Bit disappointed in how little I got done today. Didn't manage ANY cleaning or bed-changing at all.

Did gather together and name all the school supplies plus label new gym kit and bag etc and dd's uniform is sitting ready, ironed on the bathroom chair for the morning. And at least she is clean, with a scrubbed neck. This all took far longer than anticipated.

I was going to look back at my plans for the eight weeks of summer which I think now were ludicrously ambitious and see how badly I've failed at most of them, but happily, I can't locate them in the past two threads!! This is probably a blessing in disguise.

See you in the morning on the September thread!

Right, one last round-up for August! What happened to summer??! Thanks for the offer of lemsip, Nettie. I?m not coldified fortunately though, was just feeling down in the dumps. Have now Zumbaed and am feeling a lot better. :)

Anyway:

Nettie was having her heartstrings tugged, being manic at work, ironing and bathing children.

Linzer has finished packing and was tidying the house ready for coming back.

WhoKnows was feeling motivated for a clutter-free September?

Swan was battling technology and her bed was under a cat.

Ouch has a chuffed DS with a decluttered bedroom. She had a PJ day and was going for a long walk.

Silvery is sticking to routines ? definitely good!

MC had a PJ morning and was going to attack cupboards. Glad you?re feeling better today.

messy was flying under the weather!

SC had a lot of organising to do. Shock at 38 items of stationery!!

feet also had catted beds. Hope DD was OK with doctor etc.

rowing was moving books around and infested with moths. Second the yuck but no advice I?m afraid.

Madwoman was counting down to her interview. Hope it went well.

Fuzzled was doing the bed at a decent hour babystep!

So there we are.

Will get back to posting lists on the Sept. thread?

Well i would love to do a list update but it would be monumentally rubbish as I can't even say I have gotten. We have been having a Pj and dvd day. But as ds is now starting to get fractious and I am getting cross and shouty I am going to finally get up and then take him for a long walk to tire him out a bit. Been nice to do nothing though.

Ugh. Feel lousy, grey and unproductive today. Not much work on for the first time in about a year. CBA to fly. Too much time idling around on the computer feeling bored. Should walk to fetch the boys but can't face walking back with them.

Sorry for whinging. Maybe a ta-da list will cheer me up:

Beds stripped
Washing done, dry and folded
Dusted
Ironing done
Ordered cotbed duvet etc for DS2
Few chasing emails
Antiprocrastinated about calling the builder
Paddling pool away
Minor decluttering of utility room.

Yeah, maybe not so bad after all. Will attempt the de-junking mission before heading off to the CM...

Right, we sare now back home from soft-play so better get some bits done.I really need to crack on with that pile of ironing, I think 15mins a day is the way to go until I get on top of it!
I also need to check what the mission is a do that I suppose, but what really needs doing, is the dvd's all need to be put back in their right cases and cd's too. Hate that job but suppose today is the day to do it, being anti-procrastination day. Sad

Yuuuck! I've been sorting out some woollen things in a box and they were absolutely infested with moths.
I've thrown away a lot of the stuff, but I'm washing some things which were not obviously chewed. Everything has a kind of dusty, eggy sort of look.
Is there anything I can do to save any of it?

Done
Washing up is done and s&s kitchen
stuff back on shelves
Washed walls with bleach where dampness seems to be coming through
made snack for DS when he comes in

To do
get washing in
put clothes in tumble drier for 20 mins then fold - much later

Hi all, Good afternoon!

Hope all the lists are being ticked.

Nettie that's funny about your DS being find today, they do move on quite quickly don't they. 'What keyworker?' Grin

Blue you are so amazing with your big list of people. Very impressed.
We actually got the time wrong at the dentist, but I'm glad we did as they don't seem to remember that a 6 year old really can't wait 2 hours - until 6:30 for a fissure seal to set and then have dinner!

Madwoman good for you, braving the bedrooms!

I've been continuing with the moving bookshelf/chest project in the bedroom.
Haven't managed to clean my sink yet, but will do that when I get home from work later.
Done so far
washing on line
new load in
move chest
move bookcase
hoover where all the dust has gathered underneath
Email a couple of people about work
Update calendar
Check emails

Still to do
washing up
vitamins
put away clothes
put stuff back on bookshelf
work

Not really pushing myself, but have just caught DS's cold and have a sore throat and horrible craving for chocolate - 1 wagon wheel and 1 small kitkat for pudding at lunchtime!

Back later

Swan - cat on my bed too, and another on DD's so that's 2 less beds to make :)

Ta da:

  • Snuggled in bed with DS
  • Tried to lance HUGE spot on back of DD's leg. Not successful but she was very brave (for someone who usually has a very low pain threshold/very high drama threshold Hmm) Will need to get her to docs as its a nasty infected molloscum spot.
  • Long talk trying to find out why DD gets SO upset at thought of going to docs - think it is because she is getting very aware of her body/privacy/etc but not really sure and bit concerned
  • S&S
  • Tried to book builder but he was on M3 coming back from holiday!
  • Got lots of info for friend re letting agents etc from another friend who is in the letting business
  • Send above info the friend

To do:
  • Work to do payroll as SAGE wouldn't let me on yesterday
  • Washing up
  • Finish putting away camping gear
  • Tidy anything else in kitchen
  • At least 1 load of wood-smoked washing :)
  • Docs appoint for DD
  • Park with DC
  • Charity shop browse and greengrocers

That's plenty :)

Whoknows - I will join you in having a proper go at decluttering in September. 15 mins will be my mantra.
Have a car boot sale coming up on 18th so that should spur me on.

Thank you Blue for great leading whilst we have all been coming and going.

and everyone is dressed.

Hello everyone

[SC heaves herself out of post-holiday clutter that still hasn't been put away Blush]

If it weren't for Blue's regular and fantabulous round-ups I'd feel totally out of touch because I have been posting so intermittently on here through the holiday season but hope everyone is ok!

Madwoman 9 weeks of visitors Shock You are a saint. 5 weeks nearly finished me off ....glad you are feeling better and good luck with the interview!!

Blue I was pleasantly surprised by the region btw, not least by some really good red wine (as opposed to traditional white) and glorious countryside

Silvery good luck with starting your new job!

oh Nettie your poor ds.... hope his day gets better

Sorry you are suffering Messy

Swan oooh at the Franzen!! Must get on to it immediately!

Huge waves to everyone else!!

Right - dd starts back at school tomorrow [gulp]

Have rather a lot to do before then because I've chosen to sew instead of organise these past few days

Tidy and clean :sitting room, kitchen, master boudoir
Sort and start the washing
Change the beds
Sort and name the 38+ items of stationery that dd requires for school
Iron uniform
Collect dd's coat from dry-cleaners (there's a definite autumnal whiff in the air here too Swan)
Collect prescription from chemist
Clean out my car
Chase dd around house with large net, corner her, and place in bath. Full scrub behind ears, neck, and trim finger and toe nails.
Help dd make dh's birthday present

Need a spot of lunch and a minute coffee to spur me on ....

Morning all

Madwoman good luck with the interview.
Swan yes I have thought about that. I've been to docs a few times but they want me to eliminate, problem is I don't know what to eliminate. Initially I thought it was bread (Which I am addicted to) but now I'm thinking its dairy. I've eliminated milk but I think its linked to how much as well as what I eat. Anyway I need to sort something out with it as at the moment I am ill 2-3 times a week.

Well I'm feeling much better today but dd and I have had a lovely morning playing games in my bedroom in pjs. In fact I've only been up long enough to have a shower.

To do today

  • Try out my new hoover and hoover throughout.
  • Attack shoe cupboard
  • Start attacking dds clothes drawers - I hate this job as I have to work out what is too big/small/still fits
  • Complete application for supply agency meeting tomorrow
  • Complete another application for supply agency to e-mail
  • Take DD to first proper karate lesson after she signed up last week.Does anyone know if she should bewearing a t-shirt under the coaty thing. Shes excited as shes going to be getting her belt presented to her at the beginning of class
  • Take dd to gps as I have a 3 hour meeting for my volunteer work tonight and dh won't be home in time to take over.

Right best get my hair dried and get started. Back later
