It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Glad DS is feeling better this morning Nettie - I think I found DS's last day at nursery far more emotional than he did!

Good luck with your interview, madwoman.

Have more or less finished the packing now and no one else has come down with the lurgy, so I'm actually ahead of schedule. Just need to tidy the house now (which has been sadly neglected since the summer holidays started of late) so that we don't arrive back to complete and utter chaos. DH has also helpfully reminded me that I should have everything ready for school on Monday morning seeing as we won't arrive back till around 1 am.

If I don't get back on later, thank you for leading us so splendidly this month Blue. Smile

Madwoman - there is a bit of a knack to it (the neti pot), I hadn't used mine for a few months and it took me 3 or 4 goes to remember how to do it best again (TBH I should have just read the instructions again). It's not something you want the kids hanging round your legs for, definitely a lock yourself in the bathroom job. Good luck with the interview.

Welcome back to these freezing shores Swan

Have a good trip Linzer

Thank you for your excellent leadership Blue

Nettie - poor DS, hope he enjoys his last day.

I'm feeling really motivated since getting the Flylady book, I am planning to go for this properly in September. I did 15 mins decluttering in the living room last night and stopped and put my feet up even though there was still a lot of mess, it looked better, I felt better - I need to do this. My decluttering has got so far and really faltered (I tend to just move stuff round and round the house). So, as soon as the kids are back at school the big clear out will commence.

Report
LinzerTorte · 31/08/2011 09:02

That's how I feel, WhoKnows - I'm just moving stuff round (and at best organising it better) rather than actually decluttering properly. So I shall join you in having a big clear out once the DC are back at school on the 5th.

Madwoman my sister counted up the names in her visitors' book (this is in Ireland) and she had had 29 visitors since start of July! not including people to lunch and certainly not including us as we were s/c on a different premises. I suspect that the more visitors you have the better you get at it.
Good luck with interview though - I suspect you will charm them into submission.

Nettie poor ds - I hope he can look forward to visiting her later this term in his new uniform and tell her about his new school. Nevertheless it is lovely that he was/is so fond of her, shows nursery was very nurturing.

Todo
feeling distinctly limbo like...don't particularily want to ring anyone up and arrange anything.
However,
I need to send two important letters off, one regarding a friend who trying to adopt
(and as usual hitting technical difficulties with simple things like email attachments Blush
and get Ds1 to write a book review as Holiday Task from his new school which is a mite difficult as he can't write properly with cast on his arm Hmm
This should be surmountable with computer text, except the thought of tackling Microsoft Office with ds1 is SCAREY, as I don't know what I'm doing as it is bound to end in tears...

Making have you thought of being allergic to wheat - coeliac? It is surprisingly undiagnosed, I know people who only find out when they are 40-50 years old after years of tummy upsets.

Ds is so chuffed with his room it has stayed tidy for ove 48hours. the only things that are out of place are the cushions and the basket of clean clothe waiting to be put away. Shock He also enjoyed early 50p by sorting and folding a horrifically large basket of odd socks. I otoh was just pleased not have to tackle the basket having ignored it virtually all summer by wearing odd patterned socks Grin

Today is a simple list.
Get up
clear path to guest room
wash bedding in there and remake bed
tackle kitchen
Do something fun with ds
Buy some bits for a project to do with ds.
early night

Glad he felt better this morning Nettie
Well done on being ahead of yourself Linzer
Whoknows I also need to stop moving stuff about.

Hi.
I still haven't read the thread. I know, sorry!
Will try to catch up now though.
Ikm doing ok, haven't done any of the missions this week, I find the living room the hardest zone to do.
I'm sticking to my routines mostly though and getting all other jobs done so that's good.
Hope everyone's well x

Morning all

Madwoman good luck with the interview.
Swan yes I have thought about that. I've been to docs a few times but they want me to eliminate, problem is I don't know what to eliminate. Initially I thought it was bread (Which I am addicted to) but now I'm thinking its dairy. I've eliminated milk but I think its linked to how much as well as what I eat. Anyway I need to sort something out with it as at the moment I am ill 2-3 times a week.

Well I'm feeling much better today but dd and I have had a lovely morning playing games in my bedroom in pjs. In fact I've only been up long enough to have a shower.

To do today

  • Try out my new hoover and hoover throughout.
  • Attack shoe cupboard
  • Start attacking dds clothes drawers - I hate this job as I have to work out what is too big/small/still fits
  • Complete application for supply agency meeting tomorrow
  • Complete another application for supply agency to e-mail
  • Take DD to first proper karate lesson after she signed up last week.Does anyone know if she should bewearing a t-shirt under the coaty thing. Shes excited as shes going to be getting her belt presented to her at the beginning of class
  • Take dd to gps as I have a 3 hour meeting for my volunteer work tonight and dh won't be home in time to take over.

Right best get my hair dried and get started. Back later

Hello everyone

[SC heaves herself out of post-holiday clutter that still hasn't been put away Blush]

If it weren't for Blue's regular and fantabulous round-ups I'd feel totally out of touch because I have been posting so intermittently on here through the holiday season but hope everyone is ok!

Madwoman 9 weeks of visitors Shock You are a saint. 5 weeks nearly finished me off ....glad you are feeling better and good luck with the interview!!

Blue I was pleasantly surprised by the region btw, not least by some really good red wine (as opposed to traditional white) and glorious countryside

Silvery good luck with starting your new job!

oh Nettie your poor ds.... hope his day gets better

Sorry you are suffering Messy

Swan oooh at the Franzen!! Must get on to it immediately!

Huge waves to everyone else!!

Right - dd starts back at school tomorrow [gulp]

Have rather a lot to do before then because I've chosen to sew instead of organise these past few days

Tidy and clean :sitting room, kitchen, master boudoir
Sort and start the washing
Change the beds
Sort and name the 38+ items of stationery that dd requires for school
Iron uniform
Collect dd's coat from dry-cleaners (there's a definite autumnal whiff in the air here too Swan)
Collect prescription from chemist
Clean out my car
Chase dd around house with large net, corner her, and place in bath. Full scrub behind ears, neck, and trim finger and toe nails.
Help dd make dh's birthday present

Need a spot of lunch and a minute coffee to spur me on ....

Done
some work with ds1 Smile unfortunately I think I am possibly much more interested in reviewing his book than he is...Blush
He has put on his secondary school uniform again (minus tie) and is watching telly in it Shock

and everyone is dressed.
and I've put a wash on..and swiped the loo

but otherwise, NIL points - am now looking lovingly at cat who has completely curled up on our bed in absolute bliss to be surrounded by family members and doesn't care whether bed is made or not!

Report
feetheart · 31/08/2011 12:47

Swan - cat on my bed too, and another on DD's so that's 2 less beds to make :)

Ta da:

  • Snuggled in bed with DS
  • Tried to lance HUGE spot on back of DD's leg. Not successful but she was very brave (for someone who usually has a very low pain threshold/very high drama threshold Hmm) Will need to get her to docs as its a nasty infected molloscum spot.
  • Long talk trying to find out why DD gets SO upset at thought of going to docs - think it is because she is getting very aware of her body/privacy/etc but not really sure and bit concerned
  • S&S
  • Tried to book builder but he was on M3 coming back from holiday!
  • Got lots of info for friend re letting agents etc from another friend who is in the letting business
  • Send above info the friend

To do:
  • Work to do payroll as SAGE wouldn't let me on yesterday
  • Washing up
  • Finish putting away camping gear
  • Tidy anything else in kitchen
  • At least 1 load of wood-smoked washing :)
  • Docs appoint for DD
  • Park with DC
  • Charity shop browse and greengrocers

That's plenty :)

Whoknows - I will join you in having a proper go at decluttering in September. 15 mins will be my mantra.
Have a car boot sale coming up on 18th so that should spur me on.

Thank you Blue for great leading whilst we have all been coming and going.

Hi all, Good afternoon!

Hope all the lists are being ticked.

Nettie that's funny about your DS being find today, they do move on quite quickly don't they. 'What keyworker?' Grin

Blue you are so amazing with your big list of people. Very impressed.
We actually got the time wrong at the dentist, but I'm glad we did as they don't seem to remember that a 6 year old really can't wait 2 hours - until 6:30 for a fissure seal to set and then have dinner!

Madwoman good for you, braving the bedrooms!

I've been continuing with the moving bookshelf/chest project in the bedroom.
Haven't managed to clean my sink yet, but will do that when I get home from work later.
Done so far
washing on line
new load in
move chest
move bookcase
hoover where all the dust has gathered underneath
Email a couple of people about work
Update calendar
Check emails

Still to do
washing up
vitamins
put away clothes
put stuff back on bookshelf
work

Not really pushing myself, but have just caught DS's cold and have a sore throat and horrible craving for chocolate - 1 wagon wheel and 1 small kitkat for pudding at lunchtime!

Back later

Yuuuck! I've been sorting out some woollen things in a box and they were absolutely infested with moths.
I've thrown away a lot of the stuff, but I'm washing some things which were not obviously chewed. Everything has a kind of dusty, eggy sort of look.
Is there anything I can do to save any of it?

Done
Washing up is done and s&s kitchen
stuff back on shelves
Washed walls with bleach where dampness seems to be coming through
made snack for DS when he comes in

To do
get washing in
put clothes in tumble drier for 20 mins then fold - much later

Right, we sare now back home from soft-play so better get some bits done.I really need to crack on with that pile of ironing, I think 15mins a day is the way to go until I get on top of it!
I also need to check what the mission is a do that I suppose, but what really needs doing, is the dvd's all need to be put back in their right cases and cd's too. Hate that job but suppose today is the day to do it, being anti-procrastination day. Sad

BlueEyeshadow · 31/08/2011 15:43

Ugh. Feel lousy, grey and unproductive today. Not much work on for the first time in about a year. CBA to fly. Too much time idling around on the computer feeling bored. Should walk to fetch the boys but can't face walking back with them.

Sorry for whinging. Maybe a ta-da list will cheer me up:

Beds stripped
Washing done, dry and folded
Dusted
Ironing done
Ordered cotbed duvet etc for DS2
Few chasing emails
Antiprocrastinated about calling the builder
Paddling pool away
Minor decluttering of utility room.

Yeah, maybe not so bad after all. Will attempt the de-junking mission before heading off to the CM...

Well i would love to do a list update but it would be monumentally rubbish as I can't even say I have gotten. We have been having a Pj and dvd day. But as ds is now starting to get fractious and I am getting cross and shouty I am going to finally get up and then take him for a long walk to tire him out a bit. Been nice to do nothing though.

Right, one last round-up for August! What happened to summer??! Thanks for the offer of lemsip, Nettie. I?m not coldified fortunately though, was just feeling down in the dumps. Have now Zumbaed and am feeling a lot better. :)

Anyway:

Nettie was having her heartstrings tugged, being manic at work, ironing and bathing children.

Linzer has finished packing and was tidying the house ready for coming back.

WhoKnows was feeling motivated for a clutter-free September?

Swan was battling technology and her bed was under a cat.

Ouch has a chuffed DS with a decluttered bedroom. She had a PJ day and was going for a long walk.

Silvery is sticking to routines ? definitely good!

MC had a PJ morning and was going to attack cupboards. Glad you?re feeling better today.

messy was flying under the weather!

SC had a lot of organising to do. Shock at 38 items of stationery!!

feet also had catted beds. Hope DD was OK with doctor etc.

rowing was moving books around and infested with moths. Second the yuck but no advice I?m afraid.

Madwoman was counting down to her interview. Hope it went well.

Fuzzled was doing the bed at a decent hour babystep!

So there we are.

Will get back to posting lists on the Sept. thread?
