It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Afternoon all

I did indeed manage to get to the caravan this weekend and did have a good time. Went cycling on my new bike on Sunday which I loved and found a lovely country park to walk around yesterday. I came back yesterday evening and woke up in the middle of the night with D&V again. Now totally fed up as this means that today has been a write-off whilst I battle illness and DD has had to amuse herself again. I'm still convinced it is some kind of food allergy/intolerance but Doc not taking it seriously. Anyway, not got much done today other than a couple of loads of washing and some e-mails that needed sending. Am hoping to be feeling better tomorrow so I can get on with the huge list of jobs I have to do for the next 2 days :(

Anyway just thought i'd pop in. Hope you are all well and hello to all the newbies and returners

rowingboat · 30/08/2011 17:06

Hi all,
this is nice isn't it! I like threads where everyone pops in and out. That is until I can't read all the posts without taking a day off work, but hey!

Did you clear the dining room yet? I'm hoping for winter where I won't need snowboots, but there's nothing like being stylish whilst slipping repeatedly and holding onto passers-by as I walk to school with my son.

MWITA I'm OK for drugs at the moment, but I will take a hot toddy thanks! Smile Have just bought my snuffling son some delicious medised for bedtime, which is the under 18 version of a hot toddy really.

Making hope you get to the bottom of the illness. Have you any suspicions as to what the food intolerance is being triggered by?

OK here's my list
Still to do
buy tissues do tomorrow
buy medised done
make dinner done
take books to charity shop done
move chest of drawers not done yet
look at flylady and re-do babysteps (groan) double groan
Take DS to dentist did it and got the time wrong so re-scheduled.
brush and floss DS's teeth 10 times before dentist done

Quite glad I got the time wrong for the dentist as they had omitted to tell me that DS wouldn't be able to eat for 2 hours after the fissure seal so would have been waiting until 6:30 for tea! Not very child-friendly. Have resheduled for a later time so that he can actually eat.

rowingboat · 30/08/2011 17:10

Sorry I meant to write

cheerful "Did you clear the dining room yet? I'm hoping for winter where I won't need snowboots, but there's nothing like being stylish whilst slipping repeatedly and holding onto passers-by as I walk to school with my son."
Doh!

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 17:11

i live in canada - there's nay chance of me getting through winter without snowboots... Grin but at least i know now i've just to ask yank which ones to buy! the official fly (not london) boots...

CheerfulYank · 30/08/2011 17:33

It's all about these Madwoman . :) Whereabouts in Canada are you? Close to Michigan? I'm semi-trying to organize an American/Canadian mumsnet meetup there this spring.

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 17:40

oo, they are very lovely and look perfect Grin
nah, can't even fly direct - expedia says between 8 and 15 hours Wink we're in southern alberta near calgary. right in the rockies. although apparently i live about an hour or so away from sgm's mom, so nearly an almost meet-up. probably the closest i'll get Grin i'll try and pop onto the thread if i see it though. y' never know.

CheerfulYank · 30/08/2011 17:53

They are perfect, so warm! :) It gets very cold here in Minnesota as I'm sure it does there, so they are a necessity. Or so I tell DH. They're Sorels and the boot itself is called Joan of Arctic if you want to seek them out.

But! Must get off mumsnet and get cracking on list. Dishes are soaking in sudsy water, off to swish and swipe and throw a load in the wash.

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 17:55

quite! there went an hour of my life i'll not get back... to work.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2011 18:03

Hi everyone,

Rowingboat - I've got one of those Neti pot things too and although it is quite disgusting the effect is little short of miraculous, an ENT specialist gave me it last year. Unfortunately I was away on holiday without it last week, so this infection really got time to set in, but I have been using it since I got back, foolishly didn't bother this morning as I felt a bit better but then felt progressively worse all day. Just got back from work and done it though and feeling a lot clearer headed now.

Fuzzled - if you're still suffering it's this Sinus rinse

Back later if I have any Flying to report.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2011 18:06

Thereisalight - welcome on board, never too late to jump in, people come and go on this thread all the time. There should be a new one starting for the beginning of September Whoever starts that one will post a link at the end of this one.

Stillcrackers · 30/08/2011 18:08

Don't worry Whoknows I'm on to it Grin

Back in a bit ...

SilveryMoon · 30/08/2011 18:28

I HATE detailed hoovering missions! Takes forever to do, I aleways find a hole manner of crap under the sofa.
Still waiting for dp to get up so I can do it though.
Will be back to read thread later, promise.
If not, I will join CHB in the naughty corner :-)

Hopefully be in better form tomorrow ladies x

rowingboat · 30/08/2011 21:24

Hi all,

Whoknows that looks a lot like the one I use, this is my one
(cool, got my link to work! Grin)

Nettie that was a busy day! If you can hold onto your DD's bike handlebars you must be a contortionist, she obviously doesn't realise what it does to an adult's back. Smile
The Medised hot toddy has worked, thank goodness!

Now I'm in preview I can't see the thread, hrrmph! Somebody was clearing their bookshelf? Me too, it's quite therapeutic, but some books are hard to part with. What is your worst?

I've got to do 30 minutes on my exercise bike now check fly lady and that's it! Telly here I come!

swanriver · 30/08/2011 22:04

I'm back from Ireland (are you in Dublin MessyMammy? - I think I saw you on the Irish thread recently)
where we have had a lovely time, watching amongst other things Fairies swing through the trees at an aerial dance display
debated the merits of stone floors (Dh has caught a chill from said stone floor and swimming in freezing lake)
but of course spent a lot of time worrying about our children Blush and discussing our mad parents. Ds2 loved outdoors, but he did not love the socializing. Dd loved the socialising and Outdoors and never went to bed till 9pm every night. Ds1 lolloped around, and was relatively happy despite the arm cast, but seems not to be a master of tact as he told BIL we thought he was a "nutter"...Oh dear I think we need to stop discussing relatives in front of the children as they have an unfortunate habit of remembering everything we say...

London House was tidy when we returned, most unusual Confused, and garden after its phostrogen tonic looked remarkably perky. I see now it was worth having a hideous day of tidyng house when we left, as it makes such a difference when you get back knackered after your journey...

done
did final bit of school uniform ordering (trousers still too tight) and we found out what House he is in, so we needed the special tie
opened some post - CAMHS has offered us a special ASD workshop for parents only, for six weeks in Sept, so that's good, hope we get on list
avoided any other unpacking

poor Dh has a serious chill now, I suspect the same sinusy thing as Fuzzled Whoknows and MMammy. I have given him some Vicks vapor rub, which is his favourite (his (German)parents having discovered this exotic substance in the 70's in America Smile

I remember you Madwoman and cheerful! Hello!

swanriver · 30/08/2011 22:07

P.s. It was freezing in Ireland, and it is freezing here too! I've turned heating on, and in Ireland the wood stove was on every minute of the day.

swanriver · 30/08/2011 22:12

SC I finished the Franzen "Freedom". I loved it. I was like the Ancient Mariner discussing it with everyone I met Blush. Most of the them said they hadn't much liked it though, and/or that The Correctiosn was better. So I'm reading that now.

BlueEyeshadow · 30/08/2011 22:44

Evening all? Lots going on today. DS1 is home, not too much hyperactivity, no flying done, but some work, mind now full of toddler bed duvet covers?

Anyway!

Hi to Ouch. Glad the training went well.

Cheerful has cleaned her fridge and was going to tackle homeless clothing.

Linzer is packing again. Shock at Nutella pancakes for lunch and hope nobody else has the lurgy.

Nettie got a lie-in ? yay! Fairy cakes sound good too, as does the rest of your day. :)

feet is back from live-action MNing with free range kids. Sounds fun!

WhoKnows was in the naughty corner with Lemsip. Have some more! Brew

Fuzzled was having a Cbeebies-sofa day. More Brew coming up.

rowing had a busy day. Hope the dentist?s goes well.

Hi to thereisalight - sure you can join in!

Madwoman has a decluttered living room. Grin at impromptu jig-dancing and good luck with finding the table! 9 weeks of visitors would definitely drive me potty?

MC had a good time at the caravan. Sorry you?re not well. Could you ask to see a different GP if current one isn?t taking you seriously?

Silvery was dreading hoovering mission.

SC thanks for new thread :)

Messy has been uniform shopping while ill. Poor you ? glad you survived. More Brew!

swan?s back from Ireland. Glad you had a good time and yay for coming back to a tidy house. It makes such a difference, doesn?t it?!

So, links:

Babystep: Keep checking control journal. The Fat Fairy is proud of us! Wink

Mission (when it updates): De-junk the living room.

Night all.

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 23:01

hi sr!

well, i had a change of mind and couldn't face the dining room, so spent a few hours in dd1's bedroom (infinitely safer than the the other one Wink, particularly as she only moved back in a week ago when all the guests left, and half of her junk is still upstairs!). made a bit more room by rearranging the furniture, got all the new junk picked up and vacuumed, so i'm reasonably pleased.

i was going to have a blitz on the dining room before getting the dinner on, but i've just had a phone call inviting me for a job interview, tomorrow. eek. so now i'm in a flat out panic, as since the move i've got literally no idea where any remotely interview-worthy clothes are... i've been living in t-shirts, flip flops and an endless array of clapped out capri pants

aaargh. aaargh. aaaargh. aaaargh.

aaargh.

it isn't even as though i particularly want this job, except it will of course fill a mahoosive gap on my cv and well, let me pay the mortgage. Blush

dear lord, an interview.

right, anyway. dining room. will remove junk whilst chicken pie is cooking, but suspect the deep clean might have to wait until tomorrow afternoon...

you lot with your neti pots, are they easy to use? i always have visions of choking myself, so haven't summoned the courage to try one...

OuchPassVodka · 30/08/2011 23:58

Welcome back Swan

Thanks for the round up Blue.

Good luck with the interview Madwoman!!

NettieSpaghetti · 31/08/2011 00:50

Ds has just been up Sobbing his little heart out as he doesn't want his last day at nursery as he doesn't want to say goodbye to his keyworker. SadSad

Poor little fella.
