It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Fuzzled · 26/08/2011 10:49

Dear god CHB - that's just EPIC

CHBitchyIceDragons · 26/08/2011 13:00

Fuzzled - shift your bum out of the naughty corner.Grin Am 19hr day and being highly pissed off, gives you more then enough time and energy to achieve an epice list. Particulary when you are child free so you can focus on list tackling and NOTHING else.

Am now awake and about to get up. I expect cba to kick in later but right now still motivated so going to make the most of it. Now childfree til sunday evening so I want to get a surprise for ds sorted for when he comes back. Will tick another thing off my humous overall to do list so that is good.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 26/08/2011 13:00

Oh that is going to annoy me. Meant *An not Am.

Fuzzled · 26/08/2011 17:29

Right, everything is done, bar the hoovering and CBA doing that - guest only popping case into house in the morning, so will do tomorrow - honest!

DS having dinner with DH and I'm in hiding as I can hear the frustrated squawks of DH... "DS... Not in your hair!" Grin

Pizza and alcohol for dinner - rugby's on so will probably watch that - or listen to a prom. Legs or music... Wink

Have a nice Wine time ladies!

rowingboat · 26/08/2011 19:06

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on a 'Fly ing' thread for ages, but I'm having a bit of trouble getting on with projects and I need a bit of a boot up the backside.
Not too bad at the basics, washing up and hoovering, but just feel overwhelmed at the other stuff like sorting out storage and painting the window frames.
Not sure where to start, but hope this thread inspires me to start somewhere. Smile

SilveryMoon · 26/08/2011 19:17

rowingboat here is the contents of the FLYlady website, you will find everything you need there on how to de-clutter, on baby-steps, setting up routines and so on.

BlueEyeshadow · 26/08/2011 20:34

Evening all.

Quickly borrowing MIL?s laptop, while the boys are very definitely NOT asleep upstairs? We had a lovely evening yesterday, my parents left this morning and we?re now at the IL?s after a not-very-nice drive over.

What?s everyone else been up to?

Linzer had a house full of children again and had been spending ??? on stationery. Shock indeed.

Nettie was struggling with accounts ? hope you got them sorted.

PA had a lovely day yesterday ? baking and beach sounds lovely.

Messy is getting back into the swing of things and recovering the interwebs.

CHB had an epic insomnia-induced flying marathon! Enjoy your childfree time.

Fuzzled was finding DH getting in the way of flying!

Rowingboat joined us looking for a boot up the backside! Welcome to the thread. We post the basics on here every day, so hopefully it should help you get started.

Waves to Silvery and everyone else that I?ve missed by doing the round-up early!

No missions for the weekend, so just the babystep: What?s for dinner?

Better get on, or rather off the laptop. Boys have finally gone quiet. Phew. Hopefully will get back on tomorrow, but can someone post the babystep if I haven?t made it by about 10pm? Thanks!

OP posts:
CHBitchyIceDragons · 27/08/2011 01:25

No fear Blue. We'll makes sure the babysteps are posted. If no one has beaten me to it i will happily do so.

List update:

Purchase said materiall done with exception of a few haberdashery bits i forgot
See if can find the bit for sewing machine needed for sewing the curtain. done and half way through sewing
See if can finish another wip.
2nd gloss coat on door frame.
2 coats of colour on front of toy box. done

Make 3 cushion covers with the excess material done with exception of putting in zip which need to buy
Start a new project done
Run out of black thread done
Find another spool of black thread just doing
Get another WIP to handstitching stage nearly but ran out of black thread.

Another long night i expect. Not tired. Tons that can be done. Not in the mood for the internet so another night of productivity. Hope i am tired and sleepy tomo. I need some sleep at some point.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 27/08/2011 04:44

Ok this is the final list before I crawl into bed. Tired and the paint fumes have given me a headache.

Complete List:

Sew curtain lining (hemming and attach to curtain done but had to unpick a seem due to sewing machine deciding it needed some attention
Carry out mini service of sewing machine done
See if can finish another wip.
2nd gloss coat on door frame. Done
2 coats of colour on front of toy box. done
Gloss the inside and outside of toy box done but managed to get a fume induced headache - whoops
Ikea done

Go to bed in the evening rather then the morning. Grin

Night All.

Have fabulous days!!!

elliepac · 27/08/2011 10:34

Morning all Smile. Sorry for awolness over the last couple of days. GCSE results were not what was hoped for. My class didn't do too badly but as a department the results sucked which was a big shock as they are normally good. Have been stewing over it for the last couple of days and trying to figure out what went wrong Sad.

However, have now come to the conclusion that I am not going to let it spoil the last week of my holidays so am going to put paperwork aside and come back to it when I am in a better frame of mind.

Flying wise I have not been doing too badly. I did a full home bless yesterday ( i know it's not Monday but better late than never Wink). Normally i start downstairs and give up before i get upstairs as no-one sees it but yesterday I reversed that process and it worked, I got the whole house done!

Today we are not planning on doing much and list merely contains maintenance tidy and sorting the washing out. I have loads to iron/put away and two loads to do ( have already done two). We are at a family bbq tonight so want to be all done by then. I am also going to try and persuade DH to go out for the day tomorrow, possibly to Sundown Pets Corner for those of you who know it.

The holidays have gone so quickly Sad. The dc's and i are going up to the caravan on Monday for one last blast of summer so i need to get organised for that as well!

Have a nice day everyone!

Toffeefudgecake · 27/08/2011 12:23

Last day of my holiday at my mum's today. Spent a very lovely day visting my Great Aunt (91) and her family yesterday. My boys were incredibly well behaved - phew. Thank goodness they tend to reserve their less desirable behaviour for us at home!

Seeing family today, then driving home tomorrow. And then will start the labelling and preparation for school the following week. I will definitely need a list .

Ellie - sorry about the results Sad. Glad your class did better though.

CHB - you have certainly been burning the midnight oil. Hope you are sleeping soundly now.

Hope the rest of you are all OK and welcome to rowingboat.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 27/08/2011 12:48

Unfortunetly not Toffee :(
Tis often the way with kids. little saints when out, but little monsters when home. Glad you have had a nice time.

Ellie - well done to your class. Bugger for the department. Have a lovely trip to the caravan. Well done on the home bleurgh.

Right. The is some noisey thing going on and I am awake earlier then intended for going to bed at 7:30am. Going to mainstream the caffine and see if I can grab a nap later.

Fuzzled · 27/08/2011 13:45

Only a quickie as am on phone and a bit ranty atm.

Hubby going on boys day out. Me meeting friend for coffee. DS choked and threw up at breakfast. Car got puncture on way to coffee. Nursed it to Kwikfit - no locking key for wheel nuts (missing after service at dealership! Angry) so a very scary drive to main dealership - who then took 2 hours to change a tyre. Really takes the Biscuit for poor customer service! DS very unimpressed and screamed blue murder. Sad

Overall, morning ruined. Now hoping DS goes down for a nap as he missed his morning one! Confused

Still... only 5 1/2 hours till he's likely to be asleep and I can break out a small glass of Wine as I can't really drink as am in sole charge Hmm

Fuzzled · 27/08/2011 13:45

Bugger - meant to add "so no way in hell am I planning any flying!" Grin

CHBitchyIceDragons · 27/08/2011 14:04

Sorry its been such a shit morning. Hope the afternoon is better for you.

PositiveAttitude · 27/08/2011 19:01

Hope the Wine flows soon Fuzz

Quick post as I am off out tonight! Grin

All dressed and waiting for dh to get changed. I was going to wear lilac skirt with white top. DH got out lilac shirt, so I changed to pink top with navy skirt. Then he came down in pink matching shirt!! Grrrr!! Just sent him back to change!! We would look like "Harold and Hilda's" out for a night on the town - how twee!!!

Ellie - I am glad your GCSE results for your class were ok. Sorry about the rest though.

DS got his yesterday. He did far better than I thought. Took 5. Good passes on 4, one not such a good pass. I managed to engage brain before opening mouth, so success all round.
DD4 also got 2 results, one fail one pass.

Oh now DH is incapable of finding socks...in his sock draw, Shock Angry for heavens sake!!!!! I will have to go. I hope I have trained DS better then MIL trained DH!!!

Have a good evening all. I have a housefull of teenagers getting ready to go out tonight, then all coming back to sleep. Copious mountains of bacon sarnies in the morning I think. Although their morning will be lunchtime!!

Bye for now!!! Grin

DH ready and wanting to go now!

Makingchanges · 27/08/2011 19:58

Evening all

I didn't make it to the caravan yesterday. I put my foot down as we were going to have to come back today for my hairdressers appointment, DH cricket and DD dance class (Luckily caravan only 40 mins away) Anyway saw no point in watching the rain through the caravan window so took DD to see the Smurfs instead, which she loved and DH went around the house in a mood yesterday morning tidying and 'implying' that my tidying was none existant. I annoyed him further by ignoring him as I think he was aiming for an argument. So I did no flying yesterday, but I did go to the shops and buy all DDs PE kit for school.

Today I have taken DD to dance class, been to hairdressers (feel so much better for that, last two appointments I had to cancel so I was desperate), I've also been to see my grandma and took my sister out for the day with dd so a good day. Not done much flying only a bit of straightening of paperwork and stuff but I did buy a new Dyson hoover, which should help me alot with my flying as the current one works on just a hose, hurts my back and takes a lifetime to get through the house.

DH has gone to cricket and wants to go back to caravan tonight but as its nearly 8pm I'm going to put DD to bed and we can go in the morning instead.

CHB you have been so busy recently and I am Envy at your lists. I hope you catch up on some sleep soon too though.
PA enjoy your evening out. I loved your near dressing disaster. Its a good jub you were setting off together and not meeting each other there.
Ellie sorry to hear about the GCSE results although well done on your class. Don't let it spoil the rest of your holiday. I'm sure you'll be disecting plenty when you return to school.

Right I'm off to tidy the kitchen and get dd to bed. Depending on the weather I will either by biking by the caravan tomorow or flying.

NettieSpaghetti · 28/08/2011 10:00

Morning everyone,

Just trying to keep myself going

This morning was my lie in and as a result i had to get up and do breakfast. Apparently my need for a little lie in is not as important as his cos he was working last night! Angry The fact that he had a lie in yesterday is neither here nor there!!!

So i have tidied ds rooms and made beds x 3
Put away clothes
showered and dressed hair done.
Got beef joint sealed and in the slow cooker. Potatoes blanched for mil and fil coming to dinner.
Cleaned kitchen tops
wm/dw on
more school clothes tried on

still to

take school clothes and dc round to see mil who said she would happily take them up for me.
wrap dcousins new babies present and get ready for posting
get ds to write postcard
tidy up rest of the house, do s/s
make dinner
possibly make trifle for dc for pudding.
finalise numbers for ds party and write invites
write name on all school clothes
get ready for going out to an adult party tonight. Champagne and cocktails if we decide to be extravagant and get a taxi all the way.

I'll try and pop back later as havent caught up with the thread.

hope you all have a great day.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 28/08/2011 10:46

Not surprised you are Angry nettie

MC not sure what there is to be Envy of on my lists other then the lack of actual flying Grin

right yesterday was a totally unproductive day and the list looked like this:
Shops to pick up bits need to finish of blind and cushions. Did
sort out ds' bed
Make sure ds' room is ready for his return
Attach banding thingy and cord to blind
Finish off a load of WIPs - handstitching.
Go to bed in the evening rather then the morning. Did

But did go out and have some fun and slept. which tbh i think were more important in a lot of respects.

Today's list:

Finish blind and cushions
Finish sorting ds' room and bed
Tackle my room so you can get in and out of it easily
perhaps tackle landing if time before ds back
WIP finishing off when ds in bed.
Early night.

NickNacks · 28/08/2011 11:14

Quick list not much as its Sunday and DH is working.

Write and post birthday card
Text mindees mum

Have a lovely sunday everyone!

rowingboat · 28/08/2011 14:24

Hi all,
thank you for the welcomes.
Silvery I have started the babysteps a few times now. I think I even completed them once. Grin Not sure if I want to do them again, but I'll go and have a look, got to start somewhere! Shock

Blue Eyeshadow aaargh - what's for dinner!? Something with mince I think, but not really feeling the cooking dinner. Grin

Don't know about you guys, but I'm going out, been on the internet too long today, so no flying other than swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom and washing up.
I hate routines as well, does anyone else have this problem, I find them depressing, but I do see that it is a very good way to keep on top of things.
Are there any other routine haters who have adapted Fly lady to their phobia. Grin

NickNacks · 28/08/2011 14:58

Had a quick scan through and couldn't see todays babystep...

www.flylady.net/pages/bbd28.asp

I think lots of us could dowith concentrating on this one. No missions today but Sunday is 'renew your spirit' day.
