It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Nettie so pleased about your MIL -thats great news.
PA Glad you survived the shopping trip
Hello everyone else

OK - Swimming went well for the first time in weeks and I came away happy. Have asked DH to take me this weekend if we don't get to the caravan. DH took DD to Karate taster session and came out having signed her up, with a karate suit and a very happy DD Grin I however am worried that we are spreading ourselves thin with the afterschool / weekend activities.

Other than that have been planning different cycle trails to try out and different places to go this weekend and over the next week. Having said that however, DD went to bed tonight having been removed from her friends for her mardiness so at the moment I definately don't feel like and fun or treats should be coming.

Otherwise Ta-Da list

  • swimming done
  • Karate DH done
  • Tidy dining room paperwork mountain done
  • Understairs paperwork mountain - started
  • 3 loads washing - done

Right bedtime

SilveryMoon · 25/08/2011 06:16

Nettie Good news re MIL then. That's good.

TO DO
Change boys beds
Shower and dress
Swish and swipe
Tidy away/RRs
Mission
What's for dinner
Ironing
Doctors
Request repeat prescription for ds2

think that's all for today........
Happy FLYing everyone

NickNacks · 25/08/2011 07:48

Good morning all!

Todays to do list.

Drop and collect DS1 to friends house.
Plan next weeks activites.
S&S
1 load of washing
make list for shopping on sat
Empty DW/fill as we go
Hoover
Sort through DD's wardrobe- she's growing too fast!

Thats me! See you later.

elliepac · 25/08/2011 08:40

Morning! Too busy crapping myself over gcse results to fly. Back later.

Fuzzled · 25/08/2011 08:52

Eeep Blue - it's our 10th Anniversary too!
Spooky! Grin No plans for us though as DS is still too little and family too far away to babysit. Confused

Anyway, DH is off today and tomorrow as is away on a boys jolly on Saturday and Sunday will therefore be a "fragile" day for him.

So no flying today other than general stuff so the house doesn't become a tip. Mind you, he's promised to watch DS while I hit the hellhole study as one of his mates is crashing on Sat night - and we can't wen put the futon flat Hmm so maybe get a bit of tidying done, then I can Hoover & dust on Saturday while they're away.

Off to get my eyebrows waxed while they're at the supermarket - must dash!

Fuzzled · 25/08/2011 08:52

PS - good luck little elliepac's!

BlueEyeshadow · 25/08/2011 10:11

Ooh! Happy Anniversary to you too, Fuzzled! What a very good day for it... Grin

OP posts:
PositiveAttitude · 25/08/2011 10:36

Happy anniversary, both of you. Smile

Hope your teaching skills have done a load of them proud Ellie.

DS is refusing to go up to the school to get his results. Not boding well!! After my mega faux-par last year I think it really could be all my fault!! (when he came home with results my mouth somehow said "Oh my goodness, that is awful!" before my brain could stop it!! Blush)

I have had a cooking blitz this morning. Very pleased with my efforts so far:- Ciabatta bread rolls, scones, bacon sandwiches, spaghetti bolognese and apple crumble. Oh and chicken soup brewing nicely!

I need to tackle my ironing pile today.

Other than that, I intend to chill out and make the most of having the teenagers around. Might all venture out this afternoon for a walk around the forest.

Big waves = catch you all later.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 25/08/2011 10:45

Happy Anniversary!

Good Luck Ellie.

Tbh i feel fairly ok, just stupidly tired. But having only had 5hrs sleep last night and stupid numbers of phone calls yesterday evening so did get back to sleep. I am actually feeling like i could succeed at getting the decorating done today. So list looks like this:

Get up
laundry
move stuf into center of room.
sand the remaining coloured paintwork off skirting boards.
hoover
apply first primmer coat and set timmer for 2hrs
tackle sorting of stuff in middle of room
apply second coat of primmer and set timmer for 2hrs
finish sorting stuff in middle of room/hit the landing
Return furniture to its normal position
Apply gloss to door frame only (ds' room and really don't want 'wet' paint in there when he gets back sat).
make up ds' bed
curl up with school shirts for naming.
Curl up with projects that need hand stitching to finish off.
remove spoiled nail varnish

Toffeefudgecake · 25/08/2011 11:54

Happy Anniversaries, Blue and Fuzzled!

Just popping in quickly to wave to you all. Minimal FLYing going on here, apart from a bit of bedmaking and the usual swish and swipe. It's my Mum's birthday today, so we are going out celebrating later. Funnily enough, she has just received a copy of the Flylady book from Amazon - she is so impressed by my tidy house that she wanted to find out more about the system!

PA - your son has a brilliant sense of humour. Your account of reading your daughter's phone messages did make me laugh. Did you go on the hot date?! Hope your son's results are good today.

Ellie - good luck with the GCSE results.

The boys want to go to the beach and as the sun has actually come out for a little this morning, I need to get my arse into gear.

Makingchanges · 25/08/2011 12:08

Morning all

Ellie I'm sure all your students will have done you proud with their results
PA I hope your son has done well too
CHB good luck with the decorating. It's my most hated job in the house. I don't mind picking the colours etc but hate doing the stripping, painting etc

Not going to well here today. I have a very narky, cheeky and grumpy 5 year old. I think she is ready to go back to school. This happened last year. I think she starts to miss her friends and I really think she needs the structure of going to school and then playing with friends at home.

Anyway We were going on a tram ride to the big shopping centre but her friends came around and made it too late by the time she had finished stropping. Plus after her behaviour this morning, she doesn't really deserve a treat (She loves tram rides) so instead I am driving to the big shopping centre Sad I need to go to bank, pick up a reservation from argos and see if I can get DD some new school trousers. I also need to go to post office on the way back and pack for our bank holiday weekend in the caravan which has now been postponed until tomorrow lunchtime as I have to go for an interview assessment at the Job centre tomorrow - Joy of joys

Right time to gather up my child and get rid of other children and get moving. May get some flying done this afternoon

CHBitchyIceDragons · 25/08/2011 13:54

BlueEyeshadow · 25/08/2011 15:04

It's lovely and quiet here today with the house to myself! A bit annoyed with a potential client with an urgent project who then gave it to someone else once I'd already done a lot of work on it. Grr!

Have done some hoovering and played at hokey-cokey with the washing. Should do something more productive now...

OP posts:
Makingchanges · 25/08/2011 16:35

CHB well done on your decorating so far. You sound like you've been really productive.
Blue I'm jealous of your quiet day with the house to yourself. I have to share my house today with any combination of 6 children - Only one of which is mine. Its like Grand Central Station in here.

Went and did the school uniform shopping etc - Was sheer hell. I couldn't wait to get out of there. DD is really playing up today and I have the biggest headache which I've had since waking up. I also didn't manage to get the PE kit for the uniform so now have to do it again - think I'll try and manage with local shops for that next week.

Right - I can't remember who does it but I'm copying whoevers idea it is for a list of 3 things only. I think thats the only way I'm going to be productive this afternoon.

So

  • Wash car
  • Clean kitchen
  • dry washed clothes and put another load in

Back later

BlueEyeshadow · 25/08/2011 18:32

See you tomorrow, hopefully, although will be at MIL?s and hoping for use of her laptop!

OP posts:
CHBitchyIceDragons · 25/08/2011 18:49

Woo Hoo. Did that mission yesterday. So i am ahead of the flylady. makes a flipping change Grin

Have a lovely evening Blue. Thanks for the roundup.

LinzerTorte · 25/08/2011 19:12

Happy anniversary, Blue and Fuzzled - or anniversaries, rather. Grin Hope you have a lovely night out Blue and grr at the client; I once managed to do a whole translation only to find out that the job wasn't going ahead.

Lol at your eyebrows being at the supermarket, Fuzzled (I really shouldn't start reading posts at the last sentence). Wink

Hope the results were what you were hoping for, ellie.

I'm still struggling to get back into FLYing and have had an annoyingly unproductive afternoon, despite all three DC being out at a party. Spending half the time on MN didn't help, of course.

Our house will probably be like yours tomorrow MC, as we have four or five children coming over (although not all at the same time, thank goodness), with the first lot due to arrive at 8.30 am. DH would normally be around to help out on a Friday afternoon, or at least would be home a bit earlier, but he's gone off hiking with some colleagues and won't be back until late evening. (He told me that he might not be able to phone as the reception wouldn't be very good, which reminded of the thread where a MNer's DH went off camping with two female colleagues and he claimed he couldn't phone because there was no reception. At least he hasn't taken all our toothpaste. Grin)

One thing I did manage to do this morning - which took up about half the morning - was the school stationery shopping. We are now over ?100 poorer. Shock I dread to think how much it will cost once DS starts school.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 25/08/2011 19:47

NettieSpaghetti · 25/08/2011 21:39

Good evening

Bit of a meltdown day today, relief over mil results returned into panic that i'll be 6 months trying to do both jobs in 2.5 days. I've calmed down now and had a gym session which helped too.

Happy Anniversary Blue and Fuzzled hope you both have a lovely time today and tonight.

pa hope you managed to be suitably impressed whatever the results
mc bummer about tram ride. I would love to go one. If i'm really good will you take me?
linzer Shock at school stationary.

Im off to have a quick shower and some chill time. Nite all

Fuzzled · 25/08/2011 21:42

Nettie VAT returns are easy. Register online and it basically is step by step.

Only hard part is actually getting the figures to input Smile

NettieSpaghetti · 25/08/2011 21:44

fuzzled ooo i know that much that it's online. As for figure gatheringHmmConfused lol

Ellie hope you are ok and results are ok too.

PositiveAttitude · 25/08/2011 22:00

Nettie, do you use Sage? I thought you did, but maybe I am getting you confused with someone else on here, I know there are a few of us doing accounts on here.

Sorry, I was only intending to read before I clicked off for the night,, but I may as well give you an update while I am here.

DS - Yes he is a lovely lad and has a fantastic sense of humour We have always said he is like an over-excited puppy dog, still waiting for him to grow into a sensible older "dog", but no sign yet!

Lovely day today. We did baking this morning, then spent an afternoon at the beach (me, DS and DD4) DD1 had her hair coloured, DD2 was working, DD3 is very unwell again Sad and spent the day in bed. Hoping she will be well enough for college next week, or we will have to postpone again for another year.
Feeling good about today though, good mummy day! Grin

Oh and DS never went to get his GCSE results. He will wait for the postman. At tea time I found out that DD4 should ahve gone and got one, too. She is so dis-organised that she was totally unaware until all her friends wee asking her what she got on facebook. Hmm - ok, so maybe not quite such a good mummy day! Blush

Off to read the rest of the thread that I ahve missed today, have a good evening.

Hands Wine out to anyone still around.

messymammy · 25/08/2011 23:37

Hi guys
internet has been down for the past nearly 2weeks, so havent been on. Hope everyone is well, and FLYing away :)
Was away for a few very stressful days with my mother and the kids, remind me if I think about doing it again that we just do not get on, and I hate being criticised, especially by someone so hypocritical Angry

Haven't been doing much FLYing, but am going to get back into the swing of it again tomorrow.

Today I...
did the dw and did an empty cycle to clean it.
cleaned out the fridge
did four washes and tumbled dried three
cleaned kitchen
got dd1 new runners for school

Have a lot more to do to get out of chaos, so list for tomorrow is...
dw
sort clean washing
tidy hotspot of mantlepiece
declutter dd1s clothes while she is not here to be sentimental
sort out pile of unknown crap on armchair, that seems to have multiplied in my absence
do more washing
clean off kitchen table
hoover
organise meal plan that doesn't involve loads of carbs
call my nan to thank her for gifts
call dm to see when she will be back with dd1
find payments form for school for dd1
call dr re dd1s vaccinations and my acne
research where to buy nicotinamide in high doses

Nettie my dm had stage 3 of 4 breast cancer nearly ten years ago and had lots of chemotherapy but no radiation. She has gotten the 5 year all clear and everything, so an advanced tumour and what seems like not a great prognosis can have a good outcome :)

Bedtime now for me, have to get back into routines after being away so will start with an early night. Will be back tomorrow and can hopefully read back to see what everyone has been up to if dd2 cooperates :)

CHBitchyIceDragons · 26/08/2011 01:38

I have no chance of sleep tonight. Long conversation with the ex. Right now i am not sure if i want to rip him a new one or sit in the corner and cry. Also have pmt insomnia so have already tackled most of the ironing, all of the folding and have the last Shock load of washing on. The washing basket is empty bar the hand washing Grin won't last i know but tis a nice feeling. Will probably post a last last update just before i pass out in the morning. Hope you are all sleeping soundly. BBL.
