Ds2 did that on Christmas Eve when he was 2. "Father Christmas is bringing me a yellow truck". [parents aghast realise there is no yellow truck in present pile or indeed anything similar... only boring educational toys...] Next morning he was very very upset that there was no yellow truck. We had to buy one on Boxing Day and pretend there had been a mixup!
Thomas blanket does sound a useful thing to have around the house too!

Took dcs to singing lesson through the snow. Quarter way there dd had complete tantrum and refused to walk another step saying her leg and throat hurt...and that I had promised to drive her. Car was this point frozen to road. Rang singing teacher to cancel shamefacedly, and singing teacher said she wasn't expecting me, and if I had come that would have been fine too, but fine if I didn't! So all fine after all, but a bit Xmas Sad at all the unnecessary stress. Well I suppose we had a little walk in fresh air Xmas Grin

So now I need to do some tidying and enjoy the p & q.

OverflowingMum · 17/12/2010 17:34

swan oh bless him! well, actually DS2 does have a yellow truck...but no blanket LOL and he has now announced also the father Christmas is bringing him some Iggle Piggle socks Xmas Confused where is he getting these things from??? So now off to search for Thomas blanket and iggle piggle socks tomorrow....wonder if the list will grow next week, and if any of it will be in any way similar to what he is actually getting Xmas Confused
Singing trip sounds stressful...but good that you are all back safe and warm...hope rest of evening good...

am feeling need for wine....
DD3 has returned in TOTAL meltdown mode after her week of plays and parties Xmas Hmm
I have delegated DH to go to Carol Service,
which does sadly mean I get to do littlies bedtime alone, and DS2 is appearing very spritely after spending the day in bed...ho hum!Xmas Hmm

wendyhappysmile · 17/12/2010 20:12

OFM have seen Thomas blankets in Asda, and in Home Bargains, if you have one, and definitely have on in Argos if that's easy?

Need to make my xmas cake - tomorrow?
Had a quite nice day today, Arthur fell asleep on school run in the pram, slept til I woke him to feed before nursery pick up - fell asleep on his own for afternoon nap and then again later ... happy baby today! long may it last

bb tomorrow

scattyspice · 17/12/2010 20:31

Ooo wendy Arthur sounds like a star Xmas Smile.

ofm Hope you are keeping your head above water, all sounds frantic!

swan Good luck with party tomorrow. Put all the kids in one room somewhere Xmas Hmm.

nuttysanta hope you got your drunken husband out of the way Xmas Smile

DD still poorly (so no sleep for me again). Work Christmas party was great, had a little dance Xmas Smile.

Dh 'worked from home' today to look after dd. Together they cleaned the kitchen Xmas Shock its never been so shiny!!

Tonight we have finally put the tree up and decorated. Christmas tree looks like someone vomitted tinsel on it Xmas Grin.

Amazon have delivered 3 DVDs (Gforce, home alone and monst v aliens) so that should keep em quiet next week.

I have been singing along to Now Thats What I Call Xmas. Tis very jolly Xmas Grin.

OverflowingMum · 18/12/2010 13:23

afternoon all

scatty hope dd is a bit better today. Yay for DVDs too!

well, have done well so far this morning.
Went shopping - got there at 8.45 - very quiet! Tried Sainsburys for Thomas blanket (no luck, although they had lovely ones with cars or diggers or aliens or dinosaurs...but alas no Thomas) then tried Wilkinsons - thought I'd be in luck when I spotted a Thomas cushion, Thomas duvet cover and Thomas light shade...but alas no blanket - (although they did have a Roary one and a Toy Story one)
I did however finally track one down in argos (good tip wendy) so all is good!!
Got a few other bits and pieces...and am more or less done now(although I have been saying that since September LOL)

Then I am most pleased with myself as I came home and made myself go for a 3 mile run! It was a bit of a struggle towards the end, but I am glad I made it though as I havent been in 3 weeks!

Not sure what Im doing now...
Have lots to do...but lacking in motivation...
HoHum..

scattyspice · 18/12/2010 16:50

Well done on finding that blanket ofm!

Took DS into town for swimming lesson. It was crazy!!
Quick trip to the park this aft. Freezing cold and dd still not well so very quick trip, looks lovely in the snow with ducks huddled in the corner of frozen pond!

Trying to hold off pre christmas tension. Had a row with dh this morning about whether there was an 'edge' to my voice or not (when I mentioned that we had 3 unopened bags of carrots) Blush.

OverflowingMum · 18/12/2010 18:34

scatty I know what you mean about tension - I have managed to fall out with DH - long story but he was meant to arrange for us to go out weeks ago...and didnt...and then suggests going out on Weds night, to which I say I would rather wait till after Christmas now (as I am working Mon, Tue and long day Weds and know I will be shattered and still trying to sort Christmas stuff etc...) so he is sulking saying I don't want to spend time with him Xmas Hmm
I pointed out that it was different for him , on Holiday all week and considering he does NOTHING to get Christmas stuff ready - just wakes up Christmas morning to see that Santa has delivered wonderful presents for 6 DC...sigh...

anyway....am going to try to keep Christmas grumpiness to a minimum...

am quite impressed that so far we have no snow Xmas Grin really had enough of it last time to last the whole winter.

and am cheering myself up by reminding myself that after Tuesday the days start getting longer again....Spring is just round the corner Xmas Grin

OverflowingMum · 19/12/2010 11:36

gosh...where are you all??? stuck in a snow drift???
anyway...
am shattered today and attling grumpiness still....Xmas Hmm

Have just booked dds bday party, having realised I will need to hand out invitations before end of term (Tue) as her bday is on Jan 14th, and party on 15th...and girls not back at school until 10th...so too short notice....

now going to hid in my room I think as DC annoying me imensley Xmas Hmm

Makingchanges · 19/12/2010 12:33

Wow OFM thats late to go back to school, we areback on the 4th. Goodjob you realised now. - Hope grumpiness disappears.

Have been up all night with grumpy DD, screaming and crying for a drink, can't sleep and wants telly on. Suspect its a sore throat with her cold causing it.

DD is off to a birthday party and a xmas party today and then swimming lessons (depending on how she goes with lack of sleep / cold) I am spending the day on my last assignment before xmas so I can drive and hand it in tomorrow so am leaving the parties to DH now I have bought and wrapped pressies etc.

Went to shops and bought all xmas presents yesterday so one less thing to do, although still need to put up tree etc.

To Do today

  • Washing
  • Essay
  • Wash bedding
  • Sort recycling
  • Contact friends re playdate this week
  • Sort out paperwork mountain
  • Write last lot of xmas cards

Hope everyone enjoys their day

scattyspice · 19/12/2010 12:52

Hope you get your assignment done MC. My dd also has a nasty cold/cough, day 4 now and still v clingy/wingy (sigh).

have been to aquarium with dc (to avoid cabin fever). Quite restful Xmas Smile. Dh gone into town to do some Xmas shopping Xmas Shock.

Hope you can get that party organised ofm.

OverflowingMum · 19/12/2010 14:30

scatty aquarium sounds good.

MC poor DD, and you! Hope tonight is etter for you. And yes girls do go back to school silly late, DS1 and DH are both back on 4th...but then they don't finish school till Tues (well Weds is officially inset day, then Thurs is first day of their hols) DH and DS1 both finished Friday ( as did the rest of the world...sigh Xmas Hmm)

OK...not bad afternoon. DH has possibly taken my point about his lack of participation Christmas prep! He has sat and done all Christmas cards with DDs for their friends...

He is now putting up remaining decorations...and I am resisting the urge to correct the positioning - it is true I do have control issues(!) that make it hard for him to help out, as I then invariably end up criticising or re-doing myself Xmas Blush So I am sat here trying Sooooo hard not to tell him that the garland he has just put up isn't straight.....Confused Xmas Hmm Xmas Shock

DS2 has just emptied all the drawing pins over the floor...not interfering...

LOL DH has just stepped back and said "oh, not very even is it" LOL LOL MUST not interfere....Oh no now he's asking me if its OK...."yes that's lovely" aaarrrgggghhh Xmas Wink

scattyspice · 19/12/2010 18:24

Lol ofm I make sneaky adjustments when no one is looking!

swanriver · 19/12/2010 20:39

Scatty LOL "edge to voice" I think there is an axe in my tones..

Party v. v. tiring to organise (partly because I was feeling ill in run-up) but we made it through! And I think it went well, though not quite as packed as we would have liked due to snow chaos and sickbugs LOL..plenty of kids though!!!!Dh spent a large proportion of party keeping other people's kids calm and fed Xmas Hmm culminating in sending them out for a snowball fight at10.30pm [in beautiful newlylaid snowon the road outside...

then neighbour (with same age kids) who I had unfortunatelyNOT invited to party (think Bad Fairy at Sleeping Beauty's Christening) put her head out of the window and said she was calling the police!!!Xmas Shock re: unsupervised hooligans in road Xmas Blush Dh was furious with neighbour (not to her face thoughluckily) all rather difficult ho hum...

Then this afternoon made mistake of ringing my sister in Dublin who I hadn't talked to for a while, who had also had a Xmas party the same night. She said she had FIFTY guests in her house, MOJHITOS [cocktails with lime and prosecco Xmas Envy and everyone had stayed till 1.30 am. So then I felt a bit depressedXmas Hmm Deep down I see I don't have what is required to give parties...A sort of bacchanalian approach Xmas Hmm

We've had quite a nice day [apart from clearing up] Tempers moderately frayed but luckily not all at once Xmas Grin
Dh now in bad mood wrestling with overtired kids and Scalextrix..We've just been to local Anglican church for lovely carol service.

swanriver · 19/12/2010 20:41

And we still haven't put the Christmas Tree up Xmas Grin though house is decorated! Not sure when dh wants to buy it..

swanriver · 19/12/2010 20:46

MC hope dd has a better night.
OFM we were playing Thomas Pairs this morning (memory game)and ds2 said he was too old for it Sad He used to be obsessed...we had every single video, including Singalong and all the books.

StAnne · 20/12/2010 07:56

Morning off to work see you lot later. Don't get stuck. Going on to traintracker site now to see if there is a train to work!

StAnne · 20/12/2010 07:56

Ops! name change its Nutty bear Xmas Smile

scattyspice · 20/12/2010 08:36

Good luck nutty hope you get there (and more importantly get back).

swan you and dh sound like fantastic party hosts Xmas Grin. Snowball fight sounds brilliant! Baa Humbug to neighbours!!

I'm up and at it this morning though Dc still asleep (hopefully sleeping off their colds). Need to hit sainsburys Hmm. Then tackle the house:

To do:
buy food etc
wash bedding
wash seat covers
hoover
dust
bathroom
recycling
banking

scattyspice · 20/12/2010 08:40

Oh and swan I mistakenly phoned my sister last night who kept going on at how lucky I was to have 2 wks off work etc and how she is single handedly keeping the NHS afloat right up until Christmas Eve! She doesn't have kids and still believes that if I am not at work I must be on holiday!!
Sisters really know how to put you down don't they!
