But rather than a one a day baby step, we do a two a day one.

I need to get back on top of things, plus I will be on my own for the first time in over 5 years.

Hi all, Well I'm managing to keep on top of the housework atm, but I still have huge piles of crap to be sorted.

Tisonlyme, can I ask you a side question here? What punishment would you give to a reception child ( 4 nearly 5 ) who painted her face with chalk because a year 2 child told her to and had already done their own in another colour?
Just curious. :)

My aim for today is the usual stuff (done) empty wardrobe and have MAJOR turn out of anything too big / never going to be worn again!

File tax return.

Cook tea and bedtime routine.....

The big piles are staring at me. I don't feel like I can do the baby steps atm, I'm doing ok just keeping on top of what I've already done, so for the moment I'm just going to hold everything at this level before stepping up again.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 24/09/2010 18:45

I've really drifted off course - DH has been off sick for two days and I've not done a thing. I'd like to say it's because I've been nursing him back to health - but I haven't.

But I need to get the house straight over the weekend. He's off on a course (leaving Sunday, back on Friday) leaving me to deal with 3 kids, school run, housework, dinner, shopping, bath- and bedtimes. And I'm exhausted just thinking about it - not to mention being exhausted because I'm 6 months pregnant!

Still - it'll be a test of my recently acquired organisational skills to see if can get through it with minimal shouting.

I think I might really be needing you all to get me through it!

What do you all have planned this weekend?

KickArseQueen · 24/09/2010 21:37

Hi Thereis,

I'm sort of managing to keep the staus quo atm, I still need to do my tax return and wardrobe, we had a rather large drama with dd2 and it never got done.

I'm not succeeding much with the extra fly stuff, but I feel more in contol of the house now. I've also noticed that the dcs attitude to mess is changing too, they are much less resistant to tidying up now, I think they like it being tidier and I didn't expect that tbh!

I doubt very much that you need much help to get through the week, do a meal plan for the nights your dp is away - make it easy for yourself, remember that you won't be able to "nip out" for milk or anything once the dc are in bed.

I'm laying bets that with your dp away you actually get loads done. :)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 25/09/2010 14:13

Ooh - I hope your drama with DD2 is resolved now.

Actually - the girls have been keeping their bedroom much tidier since we started this, too. I suppose if everything's chaotic - it's just normal and there's been no need for them to try, but if they can see us doing things, it's bound to have an effect.

I have to say that DH is naturally tidier than me and is happy to vacuum daily. Whereas I'm a bit of a faffer and I get distracted easily. So I think I might miss his input this week - but I'm going to try (in a very un-pc 1950s housewife kind of way) to keep on top of things, so that the house is nice for him to coe back to on Friday. We'll just see how it goes. I might have to turn off MN - or limit myself to an hour a day, when I've done my chores.

I have made a list of meals for the week - only 3 evening meals as I've promised the kids I'll take them to one of those indoor play centres one night after school (oh joy!) and they do food there - though not the sort of thing I'd normally feed them - but for a one off, I think it's OK, then home, bath and bed. Then on Thursday, a friend has obviously taken pity on me, as she's asked us round for tea (our girls are in the same class at school) and a playdate. So it might not be too bad after all.

Before DH goes, I'm going to

Get him to help me change the girls' beds (I find changing the top bunk a huge problem at the moment)
Get school uniforms sorted out for the week
Sort out DD2's and DS's outfits for the week.
Do some shopping (a Tesco online shop and a trip to Lidl after school run).
Sort out kitchen and bathroom.

Then I think I should be OK to keep on top and I can perhaps do a few additional bits, too.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/09/2010 19:23

Right then. That's it - I'm on my own until Friday :(

But I have sorted out clothes for tomorrow
DD said she will have school lunches (she's been known to change her mind at the last minute though - which can be a pain).

Tonight, I'm going to:

Straighten the lounge
Sort out the kitchen
Have a bath
Go to bed early

Tomorrow is another day.

KickArseQueen · 27/09/2010 21:39

Theris, I'd completely forgotten about the difficulty of changing the top bunk!

I still haven't done the tax return or the wardrobe! So in that respect I am failing BUT i'm still keeping on top of almost everything, the clean washing monster has suddenly appeared upstairs, but I'm not going to stress about it because at least half of it is the clean bedding so its fast to put away, tomorrow is a home day so hopefully it will all be straight by 3 o'clock Oh! I have a small ironing pile too but I might be able to sort that tomorrow too!

Hope you're ok, Back tomorrow!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 28/09/2010 13:44

I'm tired and I have no motivation today :(

KickArseQueen · 28/09/2010 23:04

I haven't done anything I was supposed to do today! and I have a huge list of stuff to do tomorrow!

Can't win em all, :)

(clean washing monster is now gigantic Blush

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 28/09/2010 23:16

Hmmmm - my clean washing monster is back, too and all over the dining room.

And I just woke up from falling asleep on te sofa.

Not good.

Tomorrow it is then!

Night x

KickArseQueen · 02/10/2010 00:01

Thereis, are you getting worried about "the others" we haven't heard from them for days and I'm a bit worried they may have suffered a washing avalanche and be trapped too far from the keyboard.....

I have had an utterly crap week.

I have completely and utterly lost my focus.

Every room in the house has gone from near perfect last sunday to complete pigsty.

Dp is going out for approx 10 hrs tomorrow fishing. I will be at home with all 4 dc's and I want the house back to rights by sunday morning.

I think I'm going to cry.

I'm starting from scratch.

I'm going to shine my sink....

Hope you are ok and are not also buried in a washing monster avalanche...

Tomorrow is a new day.....

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 02/10/2010 09:56

Yes, KAQ, I am worried about the others Grin. I think you're right, it's either an avalanche or the clean laundry monster has taken over and held them hostage!!

If it's any consolation, I've had a pretty awful week with the DCs and with DH being away. Back to treading water, for me too. But I did manage to blitz downstairs and it was clean, tidy and hoovered (and smelled nice!) for when DH got home.

Of course, it looks like a bomb's gone off now - but that's normal for a Saturday morning.

But don't cry. Just think, if it was near perfect last Sunday, it won't take too long to get it back like that. And you can do it. I was surprised how quickly I could turn it round, having had a fairly clean and organised downstairs to start with. This is a novelty for me.

Yes - I think starting from scratch will help (I'm going to do it too) - and I did what you suggested yesterday - I put the timer on and did most of mine in about an hour.

I still have to tackle the upstairs, though. And our bedroom is vile - it's a dumping ground. But I've got my eye on some lovely Cath Kidston bedding and it's the motivation I need to get it sorted.

Let me know how you're getting on, KAQ - I'm sure you'll have the lovely house you want by tomorrow.

X

KickArseQueen · 02/10/2010 22:26

I have failed.

I'm trying to concerntrate on the days successes so here they are..

Clean Laundry Monstor has been divided into its component parts ( individuals piles Wink)and the girls clothes have all been put away.

Dcs rooms are tidy all toys neat ready for hoovering.

Kitchen is at 90 % and the sink is clean.

Lounge - all upstairs toys have been removed from the downstairs toy box ( they are in a halfway house atm piled on the landing need to be sorted into which bedroom they belong in)Pile of papers sorted and gone.

Diningroom, Sorted through an enormous pile of papers mixed in with kids pictures and stuff to be laminated. Recycled most of it sorted the stuff to be burnt, kids pics are waiting to go into their keep files. diningroom is now completely clear.

Bathroom, swished and swiped this morning, done.

Hallway, clear of stuff swept. All stuff sold on ebay has been collected! yay!

sounds good but!

Heres the todo!

Recycling out

Bin out.

Washing away.

Upstairs toys on downstairs rotation put away.

dd1 homework

Put through 2 wash loads.

Take up and put away the hanging washing from downstairs.

Find sky remote Confused(last seen on thursday Hmm)

and I need to do all of that by 10am.... we have people arriving after that

DP is going to be here in the morning so he's going to play tag defense and keep the kids off me while I whizz round and get it done.

Hopefully I will be in a better place by tomorrow night. :) I still need to do my tax return, turn out my wardrobe AND load more stuff on ebay! (made nearly £60.00 in the last week tho!!!)

Who knows when that will all get done..........................................

Kath kidston bedding sounds fab! I always need a goal to get things done! Our bedroom is also pretty bad, its the worst room in that house.

back tomorrow, hopefully back on top and ready for a new week! x

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 03/10/2010 09:38

It sounds like you did loads! I am in awe.

I am particularly in awe that you have a laminator!! I think I want one!

I have things that I constantly don't do, too. I'd rather clean the toilet than sort out our bedroom and so things get left and piled up and even worse. I'm a worldclass avoider.

Shall we have a pact? What do you say to us easing up on the other stuff while we do the things that are hanging over us first?

So you do your wardrobe and tax return and I'll sort do the bedroom (obviously not today - we have people over too) Imagine how motivated we would feel if we achieved that?

Have a think and let me know.

Good luck for today - I'm sure you'll do it.

X

KickArseQueen · 03/10/2010 13:08

Good plan!

My biggest problem is that if the job looks like its going to take more than 20 mins I have trouble starting it because I know I will get interupted and I will end up in more of a muddle! I have a window of about an hour on monday afternoon. So rather than trying to do the entire giant wardrobe/draws I'm just going to do the draws. Then I'll plan to do the next section.

If I chop everything into smaller pieces then I may have a chance of getting them done.

I have managed to do everything on the list for today except for 2 washloads through and dd1 is doing her homework now and I've one washload of nappies to go on the line.

I picked up my laminator when they were on offer in Lidl a few years ago and they are really useful, any certificates that the kids get, get laminated and anything with glitter on too, saves having bits of glitter dropping off everywhere!

I've got a special box for each of the children all the best or cutest stuff goes oin there to be kept. I've started putting the birthday cards that I've kept in a scrap book. All the rest of the cards are shoved in my wardrobe. So if we do each bit at a time it will get sorted too.

I'm going to do the tax return once the kids are in bed. I think I'm going to give myself a mn ban until its done... back later!

MeMudmagnet · 03/10/2010 19:33

Hello, it's me again!

My excuses are;

  1. I went down with some flu type bug
  2. It was my birthday :)
  3. One of the rabbits died
  4. DD's beloved hamster died
  5. Big project coming to a close with work
  6. I got bullied into joining the sodding PTA!(Hoping to be sacked when they realise how crap and disorganised I am ;))

It's Monday tomorrow, so I intend to start afresh. Not sure where I abandoned the fly ship exactly. But I think I'll have to start with the kitchen and the laundry monster.

KickArseQueen - The tax return!!! You've just reminded me!

KickArseQueen · 03/10/2010 22:34

Hello memud! Glad you haven't succumbed to a washing avalanche! Sorry to hear about the rabbit and the hamster!

Unfortunatly now that the PTA have got their claws into you thereis no escape! You are doomed! So am I so don't worry :)

We had guests turn up tonight and they only just left, there is no way I'm starting the tax return at this time! I'll probably fill it in wrong!

My house is I can live with it.

Thereis, thanks for the motivation :)

Back tomorrow!

and then we were 3!!!!Grin

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 04/10/2010 10:55

Hope you are feeling better MeMudmagnet - sound like you've had a nasty old time of it.

Sorry to hear about the rabbit and hamster, too.

And happy belated birthday!

I'm very tired this morning - I was hoping to have a nap (a couple of bad nights' sleep - girls up wandering around from 1-3am for some inexplicable reason) before DH goes to work (he goes in at lunchtime, and is back by 11.30 today) but I forgot that I signed myself and the kids up to some Gruffalo story time thing at DD's school - so have to be in at 1. Oh well.

Before DH goes to work, I shall have to enlist his help to change the beds again - forgot yesterday as we had visitors.

And I have to sort the clean washing from the pile on the bed (I couldn't have a nap if I wanted to - I can't get in the bed!)

So, tonight, after the kids are in bed and assuming I've enough energy, I'm going to set my timer and begin sorting out some of the hotspots in my room for starters.

I also need to:

sort out dinner
outfits for tomorrow
make sure ballet and tap stuff is ready for tomorrow
bathroom
kitchen
more laundry
dining room hotspot
try and have an early night

That makes me feel tired just looking at it.

MeMudmagnet · 04/10/2010 20:52

Right first day back on board and I managed...

To tackle a washing pile
To create a dry pile of washing
Hoover downstairs
Tidy kitchen surfaces
Tackled hot spot in the hall
Cleaned the oven!!!!!
Cleaned out (the remaining)hamster
Do a small shop

and did a bit of work stuff.

Now I didn't think I'd managed much today, but seeing it all written down, I'm quite chuffed Grin

I think my mood was set this morning when I weighed myself (for some umknown reason) and found out I was ALOT heavier than I thought I was ShockSad

KickArseQueen · 04/10/2010 22:33

I'm having trouble with my tax return! :(

We ended our business and I have no Idea how to fill in the tax return with the right zeros if that makes any sense??Confused Going to ring them tomorrow...

I've spent a large part of today trying to get my car sorted. so things have not gone quite to plan!

Tomorrow is my mad day with extra things thrown in!

Hope you had a good birthday memudmagnet :) Its amazing how much it seems when its written down Grin

I can't even think about tomorrow, hurting my head too much!

Night folks ...

MeMudmagnet · 05/10/2010 12:48

Tax returns always make my brain hurt Confused
Why can't they ask questions in plain English instead of mysterious riddles?

Well I've been given a big kick up the backside. My MIL is babysitting at our house for us at the weekend! DH thinks I'm mad, but I'm sure checks out my dusty surfaces!
Not that I should care what she thinks (she has an immaculate home, but is a bit dull Wink)

So I've got the rest of this week to get my act into gear!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 05/10/2010 14:10

A MIL is always good incentive!

And Tax returns are horrible. I used to get one - I used to rent out a flat - and they used to send me one even though the flat had been sold and I earned nothing. It was quite therpeutic just filling in zeros everywhere.

Had a bit of a bitty day so far. Much hanging around and waiting for things, and waiting to go and collect DD2 from nursery. While I was away, DH did lots of jobs though - so that was nice. Still lots more to do and have to go and wake up DS, round up DD2 and go and collect DD1 from school and then go to ballet. I hate Tuesdays - I hate ballet. It's a nightmare hanging around for an hour and a half.

MeMudmagnet · 06/10/2010 12:56

I have a cunning plan Grin..........

.......Been nagging dd1 to tidy her room for about 2 weeks now. She get so far then just stops, never quite gets it finished.
So I've decided to gather everything not put away properly into a bin bag and leave it the middle of the room. I'll give her a deadline, not sure what yet, after that deadline passes it goes in the bin.

D'you think it'll work?

Actually I might try this in other areas of the house too, see if it keeps the rest of us in check.

Off to fill some bags...

KickArseQueen · 07/10/2010 00:15

I'm having disaster after disaster here! >

I will be back, don't disapear!!!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 07/10/2010 00:18

Still here, KAQ - hope everything's OK x

MeMudmagnet - How did the bag filling go? How old is your DD? Not sure that would work with mine (eldest 5) - I think we'd have lots of tears.
