But rather than a one a day baby step, we do a two a day one.

I need to get back on top of things, plus I will be on my own for the first time in over 5 years.

OP posts:
thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/11/2010 09:43

Right then. I had a busy day planned -

  • drop DDs off at school - hang around a bit to do Children in Need stuff

  • go to TinyTalk with DS

  • speak to friend who works for an architect as a generous benefactor has said that they will pay for our (much needed) extension - and eager to get the ball rolling

  • my parents are coming lunchtime-ish

  • Wait for phone call from Doctor as I think I need more than Gaviscon for my heartburn

*aunt is coming shortly after (have midwife appointment and she's a MW so wants to come as she's hopefully going to deliver baby for me)

*then kids need picking up from school - but parents might need to do it if I'm at MW still.

That's what would have done. Only DD2 is puking. So I'm stuck in the house and can't do much until parents arrive.

Still, I suppose it's a bit better than rushing around. And at least I can do some housework.

And my goodness, I need to - the house is a tip!!

What's the betting we all get the pukey bug? And just in time for my birthday tomorrow, too. Marvellous.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/11/2010 10:33

Oh, and I meant to say, hope you're feeling better KAQ x

KickArseQueen · 19/11/2010 23:02

Wow Thereis!!

You have some seriously exciting stuff happening in the next few months!

New baby, Hopefully being delivered by your Aunt??? Thats what I call keeping it in the family!

and a new extension??? That is fantastic!

I too have a pukey one! :( I hope yours is feeling better soon!

I am feeling better (Thankyou for asking), I can't remember if I actually put on here, but I had a theory about me repeatedly getting ill and I think i am right! This may be tmi so feel free to skip! I'm still feeding ds2 and he will only feed from one side. The other side is still producing milk and I'm getting a mild version of mastitus, if I start feeling rough and pump off I feel fine again within a few hours! Need to schedule a pumping session every day!

I'm behind with the washing and the kitchen needs a deep clean, but everything else is ok and I've started doing a christmas card list to go on labels!

Thereis, Have a fantastic birthday and I really hope you don't all get the pukey bug!

xxxx

MeMudmagnet · 20/11/2010 10:06

Happy Birthday THEREIS! X
It does sound like you have a lot planned for the coming months.

KAQ Glad you've got an answer, it does sound highly likely that could be the cause of your up & down health doesn't it.

I'm getting sorted for Christmas now. Presents done apart from the odd one or two.
Got cards, need to get them written and ready for posting.
Need to sort out the freezer to make some space. Then get turkey in there, visit butchers for chipolatas, wrap them in bacon and freeze so they're ready for the oven. Make stuffings and freeze. Make a list of fresh stuff to get nearer the time.

That lot's for the coming week. Today I'm soaking the fruit for the xmas cake, so the kids can make a mess make the cake tomorrow. MIL is babysitting tonight, so need to do emergency tidy up and hide stuff ;)
Catch up on the washing and get the kids to finish homework.

MeMudmagnet · 20/11/2010 10:22

I've been thinking about this thread and I'd like to say thank you to both of you for your support over the last couple of months.

Even though I don't feel as organised as I'd like to be, there is a definite improvement.
I've concentrated most on keeping the kitchen/dining room/hall/ straight and clear of clutter and it is better.

I think it's been a real help to be reporting back on intentions and progress and hearing about your own trials and tribulations.

What do you think?
Can you see improvements since September?

KickArseQueen · 21/11/2010 00:29

Memud! I think this is about to turn into the mutual appreciation soc.! I can deffo see an improvement here, I think I've always felt very alone with the mess, but this thread has stopped me from feeling alone with it and made the mess and chaos seem smaller somehow.

The upstairs of my house is pretty much tidy all the time now, the downstairs fluctuates from chaos to tidy, but it goes through the whole cycle each day.

I don't worry about inviting people round any more, because it does get that horrendous any more.

Hope you had a lovely day thereis!

Thanks for being there both of you :)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 21/11/2010 00:55

Thank you both for your birthday wishes - I had a lovely day - we went to pizza express then did a bit of shopping and I'm still full of pizza and ice cream!

I agree with you - even though the house is far from perfect, it's really improved and I'm amazed at how quickly I can turn it round from bombsite to pretty tidy. We have streamlined and de-cluttered and I think that helps loads, and the routines help enormously too.

There will always be more that I want to do, but just don't have the energy or the inclination for at the moment - but I think it really helps having you two to talk to and somewhere to write things down - something in black and white, it feels like if I post it on here, I'm commited to doing it - but not in a negative way.

And you're both very encouraging and motivating - because you don't judge me if I have a day when I don't do what I wanted to (not that DH does, but you know what I mean, I hope).

Thank you both x

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 22/11/2010 12:46

What are you two eating on Boxing day?

I need inspiration. I was going to do a beef stew that I could cook and freeze in advance - but DD2 has developed a hatred of stews and casseroles recently so I'm having a rethink.

We're on our own on Boxing Day (my parents are coming for Christmas Day and DH is cooking the turkey and trimmings) - so I want to make it special because it'll be the first time ever we've been on our own.

I know we could just go down the cold meat route - just not sure I want to.

MeMudmagnet · 22/11/2010 16:19

We'll be with my family at Mums this Boxing day. She always does a sort of sit down buffet. Cheeses, pate, sausage rolls, dips, homemade pizzas, salads etc.. and of course, cold turkey Grin

How about a turkey curry? If your dc's would eat that. Or you could make one in advance and freeze?

KickArseQueen · 22/11/2010 19:49

Hiya I'm ill, I'm getting really fed up with saying that :( So are all of the kids and dp isn't great. I've got a throat infection, looks really grim! I tried to eat some pasta for lunch and 1 twirl was too big to swallow :(

The house looks like a tip and I don't care.

I want to do savoury pancakes filled with leftovers for boxing day.

We usually just do a stew/ leftovers with mashed potato, boring, but yummy :)

MeMudmagnet · 23/11/2010 22:32

Sorry to hear that KAQ, you've certainly had your fill of illness!

Spent alot of time at the weekend on my paper piles...and they're gone Smile
I also emptied a couple of bowls full of bits...pencils, pens, crayons, rubbers...
threw out all the dud pens.
I love throwing stuff out!

I haven't acheived much else since though.
More or less kept on top of the kitchen and the washing.

Need to hoover tomorrow, do the bathrooms and catch up on some work. Also dd2's bedroom needs some attention. Not sure if I'll manage to fit it in though.
I'm helping in school in the morning, then on some PTA errands, then working. Also have to take a bunny to the vets after school.

Need longer days..

KickArseQueen · 24/11/2010 00:42

Hi Memud, sounds like you have done really well, I've just about managed to stay on top of the worst of the downstairs housework and dp did the dishwasher when he got in tonight.

The kids are still ill, my throat looks (and feels) worse than it did when I went to the docs on monday so I'm starting to worry that the anti b's aren't working. But I'm probably just not being patient enough.

Tomorrow I will try to tackle the washing monster...
Hope you are both ok.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 24/11/2010 00:42

Yes, poor you KAQ! Have you got anti-biotics for your throat? Or maybe you don't like to take them. I don't like to take them often, but sometimes your body just needs a bit of a helping hand to fight things off.

I know what you mean about longer days, MeMudmagnet - I could do with one occasionally - not everyday, though. Sometimes they're just long enough.

I've sorted out the girls' drawers today - finally putting the summer stuff away and while I was at it, looking for DD1's ballet leotard (still didn't find it).

DD2 was off today again (this time with a suspicious sore - Dr not sure if it's impetigo - I'm not sure either - but she's got cream and it seems to be helping).

I did 4 loads of washing - so now I've got all that to put away, but laundry basket is looking a bit better.

I need to straighten, dust, polish and hoover the lounge and hallway.

Could do with doing the stairs.

Skirting boards need a bit of attention - but not sure I can get down (well, I can get down, but not sure I can get up again!).

And I'll do the kitchen.

I think that will do for tomorrow.

Actually maybe I will do the skirting boards and clean the kitchen floor - I could do with being on all fours - we think the baby is breech - so it could help.

And I've finally got some relief from the heartburn - have been prescribed something different - omeprazole. It's great.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 25/11/2010 15:47

How are you two? I'm fed up with snow already.

MeMudmagnet · 25/11/2010 23:08

You've got snow in Norfolk!?!!!

We've got nothing Sad but it's bloody freezing and the sky's been dark and heavy looking all day.
I've been planning ahead and bought a couple of bottles of milk and an extra loaf for the freezer. Last time it snowed, our local shop ran out of essentials and when the shop stocked up people went mad and cleared them out! For a week or so, we had water or wine to drink Smile

Everything's slipped here big time, I've just had lots of little things on that have taken me out of the house.

How are you both doing? KAQ are feeling any better?

KickArseQueen · 26/11/2010 01:10

Hiya Both :)

I am being positive. The antibiotics I started on monday are finally kicking in! I can eat again! The part of the week that I spent unable to eat will have helped towards my diet!!Wink

All the children are much better dd1 and ds1 both have ear infections from the virus we all had, but they are getting better, no more absurd temp spikes up to 40 odd degrees! (phew!) ds1 is still coughing like a loon, but hopefully that will tail off too. dd1 and dd2 will be back at school tomorrow, the house is a bit of a mess but we had a little blitz upstairs before bed and aside from the washing monster and the ironing it'll do.

I've taken the 1st step in slaying the laundry monster, its all divided up into each persons clothes so I'm going to go and put them in the right rooms now ready to be put away in the morning.

The kids have loved watching the snow come down! But I'm cursing because I don't have any snow trousers for ds1 and now that its actually snowed I'm going to have trouble getting any! Ebay prices will have trebled!

Hope you are both ok....

Thanks for asking after me btw! I have spent the last few years immune to almost everything (it seems) and I now feel like i'm just constantly ill!

I'm determined to actually remember to take vits every day and boost my immune system!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/11/2010 06:50

I did have some snow trousers KAQ - how old is DS? I might've put them in a bag for the charity shop though - but if I can find them, and they fit DS, they're yours -will have a hint in the meantime.... Glad you're on the mend.

The snow we had was a bit pathetic - didn't settle, but was enough to cause a 5 car pile up before 8 yesterday morning!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/11/2010 06:51

I meant 'hunt'.

KickArseQueen · 26/11/2010 12:49

Ooh!!! That would be fabulous if they were the right size and you did still have them! DS1 is nearly 3 but he's a bit stumpy in the leg department.Grin He's roughly a 22 inch waist and a 14 inch inside leg, but obviously it wouldn't matter if they were a bit big! I have managed to find a few pairs still at reasonable prices on ebay so no worries if you can't find them or whatever! :)

Bit of a slow start today.... the disected washing monster is still up there.... need to be at the school fair in half an hour...

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/11/2010 13:40

Well, they were kicking around for ages - and I know I did put them in a pile to give away - but that means they usually end up in a black bag which hangs around for another 6 months. I will have a look - you never know - they could still be lurking.

KickArseQueen · 26/11/2010 20:53

Hold fire!! don't stress, dp has bought a set off of ebay :)look cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270666335170&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT 2 pairs salopettes, jacket and polo neck jumpers. :)

Thankyou for the offer tho! If you find yours bung them on ebay! they are going like hot cakes!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/11/2010 22:38

Hmm - not found them yet, sorry for the rubbish offer! That'll be why I need to be more organised!!

I've never tried to put anything on eBay. Is it hard to do?

KickArseQueen · 27/11/2010 12:27

Not a rubbish offer at all!! really kind. :)

Putting stuff on ebay is easy, just got to be a little organised.

Take pics of everything you want to sell and work out how much it will cost to post ( look at other similar things and you won't go far wrong)

Log in to ebay, click on sell and use the quick lister, it takes you through everything step by step.

Things with a 99p start bid are more likely to sell than something with a £10.00 start so if its something I would otherwise charity shop I always do 99p start, whatever you get for it is better than nothing. :)

I'm thinking though that I am an idiot! Just went through the age 3-4 box that we haven't opened yet because of ds1's stumpy legs and inside was a complete snow suit! Fitted perfectly!

Confused!

In my defense it was given to me 2 years ago, packed in the right box and left, but I should have remembered!

I have a child free day and lots to do, back later!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 27/11/2010 12:48

Oh - we do that - we get stuff for so far in advance that we put it in boxes, put it away - then forget about it, finding it the season after we needed it!

Doesn't sound too tricky - maybe I'll attempt it one of these days.

KickArseQueen · 27/11/2010 14:42

In the last few weeks on ebay I've sold a carrier bag full of odd bits of kids clothes that I would have charity shopped and I've made about £25.00.

Its not much, but its better than nothing, it really is easy :)
