But rather than a one a day baby step, we do a two a day one.

I need to get back on top of things, plus I will be on my own for the first time in over 5 years.

Hi Loosinas :) Welcome!! Hope your grandads ok!

It starts easy, you just have to shine your sink!

Thereis, that is a massive list, its a good one tho!!!and you are managing to slip in stuff like "sort magazines" I'm just keeping on top of the day to day stuff and just cannot get round to the paperwork pile!.... I have a friend with a paperwork compulsion tho! If I tell her I haven't been fileing my utility bills again it makes her hands itch,Grin I think she needs to come round for coffee!!!!

Memud, I'm jealous of your card list on the computer! I really need to do that!

Ok, well everything is ready for tomorrow!
Tuesday is my crazy day.... School run, toddlergroup in the am for the boys, 3pm pickup then afterschool club pickup, then swimming, bath time for all 4 dcs.

Somewhere in all that I need to do 2 washloads, put 2 washloads away, hoover, buy something to throw in the casserole dish for tea, because I haven't been shopping for over a week and I've almost emptied the freezer!

I'm seriously tempted to take a photo of my paperwork pile. Then you can all tell me its horrendous and shame me into sorting it out!!
Oh well, we'll see how far I get :)

Hang on!!!!!!!!! ThereisShock You IRON your sheets??????

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 08/11/2010 23:42

No - I NEVER iron my sheets - I just thought I might iron a set for my bed to get in once the baby arrives. And yes - it was a massive list. Didn't do any of it though!!!!

KickArseQueen · 08/11/2010 23:49

Phew!!! a one off sheet ironing session for after the baby arrives! Thats a nice idea actually!!!!! Smile

And... theres always tomorrow!

MeMudmagnet · 09/11/2010 13:34

I wonder if it's possible to iron the sheets whilst they're actually on the bed?? Wink
(My mil irons socks & underwear btw)

My paperwork pile would be more horrendous if it was all in one place. So it's broken down into smaller piles around the house (p.s. Dont try this, you will go mad!)

THEREIS- I'm quite excited about your new immenent arrival and I don't even know you! That's a bit odd isn't it Grin

Today's list; (half done)

Wrap and label raffle boxes for PTA
Write and email a few letters
Do some more online shopping
Tidy kitchen
Wash load in, out and put away
Get after school stuff ready inc small shop

Tuesday is my mad day too, dd2 to rainbows dm picks her up and gives her tea thats already prepared back at home, I pick up, dd1 from after school dt club and take to piano, then she has a picnic tea/ flask of soup in the car, before going to swimming, then onto dog training classes, where me and dd1 are training the dog for her silver kc award.
Back home about 8.45ish...

KickArseQueen · 09/11/2010 22:59

Memud! Ironing the bed is the quickest way of warming it up if you don't have a hairdryer or electric blanket!! And that is without doubt the maddest Tuesday ever Shock!!! I take my hat off to you!

All I have left to do tonight is hang up 1 washload.

Oh! and my mil did some washing for me a while back when my washing machine died - she apologised for not ironing my tshirt bras ShockConfused

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 10/11/2010 12:31

My get up and go has got up and gone.

MeMudmagnet · 10/11/2010 13:34

Do you think your list was too ambitious?
I felt tired just reading it!

I make this mistake myself all the time when list writing. I start the list with small managable tasks, but then it turns into a list of all the things I'd like to get done, instead of it being realistic and acheivable.
A friend of mine told me, these lists should be no more than 5 things long. That way you concentrate on only including the most important for that day and it makes the list more acheivable. Anything over and above your list will than be a bonus.

I've tried this and it does wonders for the motivation! It's all to easy to just slip a couple of extras on there though ;)

How about we give it a go?

Only 5 things on the list + an 'extras' list if we get our 5 done.
If we manage to keep it up we could add an extra job or two?

Our own version of the Fly method!
I get the theory behind Fly, but tbh I couldn't care less if my sink is shiney and I hate wearing shoes or slippers at home, so not really a great start for me Grin

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 10/11/2010 13:44

I think you're right. It was a list of things that I need to do rather than things I could realistically achieve in a week, let alone a few days. I certainly set myself up to fail (and I do it every time, but it's something I've had modelled to me growing up - all or nothing - and it's a habit I really need to break, if I'm to stand any chance of success, I think.

I think the 5 item list would be good - though I suppose we don't put on it things that we have to do (like getting the kids dressed, fed, to school) just other stuff.

And I'm with you with shoes - it feels counterproductive wearing dirty shoes in the house (even though our carpets are far from clean anyway, but it just feels wrong).

MeMudmagnet · 10/11/2010 14:00

Ok, my list for today

Dishwasher done, needs unloading
Washing done, needs drying/hanging up
Hoovering upstairs & downstairs
Bleed radiators (not all working properly)
Bathrooms

That's my 5.

I'm having a ton load of logs delivered in the next hour and will have to make a start stacking them, but dd2 is going to a friend after school and dd1 getting the late bus from school after drama club. So no dc'c to think about for a bit.

Also need to walk dog & get some work done...oh and it's parents evening Hmm

Going to work on my 5 though!!

KickArseQueen · 10/11/2010 14:43

HaHa! I don't do the shoes bit either!

Memud, good idea on the 5 things on the list! Far better to clear the list and feel like I'm succeeding than to leave stuff and feel like i'm failing!

I have to put some stuff on ebay tonight.

We are seriously skint,

So far today I've done the necessary washing, I've 1 load to go away.

Dishwasher is done

Been to the PO and picked up ds1's meds.

Ds2 fell asleep before dinner and is still asleep now. I always feel like a crap mum if he does that :(

School run time now.

so after school run its: lunchtime for ds2!
clothes away, dinner on, tidy up general stuff, reading with kids. Eat dinner and play!

back later!

MeMudmagnet · 11/11/2010 11:22

Got 4 of my 5 done yesterday. Didn't get round to the hoovering. Decided to make the most of the lovely afternoon and took the dog for a longer walk as I was child free.

Logs half stacked, back breaking, so doing a bit at a time.

Today's 5;

Washing (on)
Hoovering
Log stacking
Tidy landing/computer area
Take down my birthday cards from Sept[embarrased]& dust front room

Late start today as I meet some friends for a cuppa after school drop off, so yet to walk the dog (waiting for the rain to ease up)
Dishwasher doesn't need doing today as we had fish & chips for dinner after parents evening.
Must fit in some work at some point as dd2 has swimming after school and don't want to be doing stuff when we get home.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 12/11/2010 11:59

Right - still haven't found my get up and go, but I need to and today is quite a child free (in that I've only got DS and he'll be having a nap in a bit) so I can get on with a few things (though what I'd really like to do is sit down with a cuppa, a magazine and a cake).

Anyway the 5 things I'd like to do today are:

The lounge
The bathroom
The clean laundry pile
at least 3 loads of washing (I've been ignoring it and now it's kind of taking over again)
change bedding

If I have the inclination/energy, I'd also like to:

do the kitchen
do the dining room
collect a parcel from the sorting office.

Really glad it's not quite so windy today. I really thought I might end up in Oz yesterday...

Hope you are doing well.

MeMudmagnet · 12/11/2010 17:14

Didn't get much done at home today, dd1 had a tutorial day, so had today off and we had to take her into school for her 10 slot with the teacher. DH off with man flu Hmm
After tutorial, had to find dd1 some boots, school trousers, jeans etc which took up several more hours.
Finally got all the logs stacked with the help of dh and the girls.
Washing done, but not dried.
Dishwasher done.

Don't think I'll manage anything else today, apart from sorting the washing and dinner. A large glass of wine is calling...

Tomorrow I'd like to go through our wardrobe ruthlessly. Dh is starting to dress like his Dad Shock and I look like I throw my clothes on in the dark most mornings.
So we need a clear out and cheap shopping session!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 12/11/2010 18:54

I've not done many of my 5 either - I went to toddler group and tried to put DS down for a nap when we got home, only he wasn't having any of it for ages.

A bitty, annoying day really.

Still, I can perhaps do a bit now while DH is putting DCs to bed. If I step away from MN, of course!!

I should follow your lead and do the wardrobe thing too, for us and for DCs. It's another of those hateful jobs though - yuck.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 13/11/2010 18:30

Bathroom
Kitchen
Lounge
3 loads of washing (and drying)
collect parcel
Dining room

All done.

Still avoiding the laundry - but I'll have to do some of it at least - or I won't be able to get into bed tonight!

How are you doing? Are you having good weekends?

KickArseQueen · 13/11/2010 18:54

Hi Thereis :)

We had visitors coming round today who have not been to this house since we moved in and would want the grand tour !!! Shock

As it goes almost everything was sorted in time and what wasn't I managed to cram inside the cupboard under the stairs Blush!

I now need to pull out all the stuff I shoved in there, but I really don't want to!!!

I have noticed tho that when I'm pushed I can put the washing away in record time!

I'm guessing you have a giant laundry monster on your bed?

Can you divide it up? take 1 washing baskets worth and see if you can put that away in 10 minutes? It will make the rest seem less daunting!

I'm having a good weekend so far, but I'm looking forward to a glass of wine once the kids are in bed, 2 down, 2 to go!!!

MeMudmagnet · 14/11/2010 13:54

It's amazing what you can manage under pressure isn't it? But I hate that feeling.

DH and I went through our wardrobe and got rid of 2 bin bags for the next charity collection. Now need to find a few cheap basics bits to replace all the old, worn out, outdated stuff.

Had nice weekend so far too.
But todays jobs (with dh) are mainly outside.

Clean out guttering.
Fix leaky guttering.
Rake up leaves.
Try and make space in the greenhouse.
Put garden furniture away (in the greenhouse)

I've done a couple of wash loads and I'm sort of on top with the day to day stuff.

Later this evening I MUST send out the dc's xmas wish lists to those who've asked for them and do some more online xmas shopping.

THEREIS - You sound like you're back on top!

KICKARSE - Don't open the cupboard! Grin
Make it tomorrows hotspot job?

Wonder what's happened to the new people? Do you think they found our efficiency overwhelming? Grin Wink

KickArseQueen · 14/11/2010 21:25

Hi memud and theris :) How are you both doing?:) Looks like we've lost the new people!

I feel a bit like I've had a day off today! I've been outside tidying the garden and dp has been indoors looking after the dcs! I'm Knackered!

All my gardening stuff has been tidied away and I've gone through all the outside toys, filled a binbag with broken useless toys and brought the rest in to be cleaned before they are put away for the rest of the winter.
So.. My todo's before bed are...

2 washloads to put away
some paperwork to do for Toddler group
Sort girls lunches forms
waterbottles attached to bags for the morning
clean outside toys

I haven't even looked in the cupboard under the stairs Blush Its not even a hotspot any more :( its a blazing inferno!!!!! Confused How do I tackle something that big???? And where amongst it all is my hospital letter???Confused I'm meant to ring them tomorrow!!!

Oh bugger! :(

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 15/11/2010 01:15

I can't sleep. The baby's doing star jumps and 'pinging' my ribs - ouch!

Had a busy weekend with visitors - in-laws on Sat and DH's nephew who's just started at Uni down the road so we thought we'd have him round to feed him up. But now, it looks like a bomb's gone off!

Still, DH around for a bit before work tomorrow morning - before his driving lesson. He's finally taking the plunge 20 years after his last attempt!! Wonder if he'll pass before the baby arrives?

A new day tomorrow so I need a new list. Will decide what's on it in the morning - going to try to sleep now!

Night

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 16/11/2010 14:19

So today's been an utter waste in terms of doing anything to the house.

We've been to Norwich Cathedral with DD2's nursery to look at the organ and other bits and pieces and have only pretty much got home (well, we've been back long enough to have lunch).

But have to go out shortly to take DD2 to ballet and wait while DD1 does it too (I hate Tuesdays).

So because DD1 has had school lunches today, I made sure we had a good lunch and we'll have a snacky tea of sandwiches, cake etc.

I've got lots to do again - a busy weekend with visitors meant housework got put on hold while they were here and then I end up with a backlog.

I have a plan though. I'm working on our edroom because it still is a dumping ground and I'd like to get the wallpaper stripped off and the walls painted before the baby arrives (yes, I know it's barking, but we've got mildew-y patches - which is due to this funny wallpaper the previous owner put on - I think I told you about her and how we have awful condensation - and I'm not sure it'll be good for a newborn baby). I also have a hunch that it may be the cause of DS's 'asthma' and DD2 has something wrong with her nose - it has a continuous odour which I don't think is right either.

So - I suppose from tomorrow (realistically, it'll have to be now) I plan to get my 3 FLYlady boxes and de-clutter like never before - I'll time myself. I want to clear drawers, bedside lockers, wardrobes he lot - my aim is to have a bedroom like you get in a holiday cottage or a showhome - with hardly anything in it.

I am enlisting my Mum to help, too - I can't do it on my own - I know that. But I'm a bit unsure of making her do too much as she has ME. She said she'll make curtains and help me paint.

Of course, if I didn't know better, I'd say I was 'nesting' Grin.

MeMudmagnet · 16/11/2010 22:07

Hi THEREIS, Good idea to concentrate on one room (definately nesting! Grin)
I'll forward to hearing about your progress.

I've let the house slip a little, the last couple of days. BUT I think I may have devised a plan to organise my workflow. I'll be putting it into action over the rest of the week, so we'll see.
I've managed to keep on top of the washing and keep the kitchen fairly tidy. the rest of the house is tidyish. I do need to hoover though! Blush

Our weekend jobs went interestingly!
DH fell of a ladder and I ended up on the roof!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 17/11/2010 11:14

Oh goodness - is your DH OK? And if I'd got on a roof - I'd still be up there (terrified of heights) or Fire and Rescue would have to come and get me!

How are ou KAQ? Hope everything's OK with you.

MeMudmagnet · 17/11/2010 20:30

DH is OK, he's a bit of a Frank Spencer and likes a drama Wink Which is why I decided to do the getting on the roof bit!!

Hope everythings OK KAQ, you've gone very quiet.

Spent all day xmas shopping today and I think I'm mostly there. DM had the dc's after school and I didn't get back till 7.30ish.

Need to have a home day tomorrow though; Catch up on the washing
Hoover
Bathrooms
Get bale of hay for the bunnies
Get some work done, putting my new workflow system to the test Wink

KickArseQueen · 17/11/2010 23:27

the rest of me has been eaten (you guessed it!) by a washing monster and I'm ill again!!!!!!!!!!

The house is fairly straight except for the washing and the paperwork!

I was really good today tho! I didn't do much house work, but I did print out a huge form, fill it in and scan it back in and re-email it!!!

And!!

I've done the girls lunch order forms for every week up until march!!!

My kitchen is horrible, so!

tommorrow

Clean Kitchen

Put away clothes

Kids in bed by 8.30pm, (disasterous bedtime here tonight!)

Catch up on here properly.

But for now I am shattered.

I have to sleep :)

MeMudmagnet · 18/11/2010 12:04

I should be doing something useful now...

..but I'm sitting here looking at my kitchen.

The 2 bags of clothes I removed from our wardrobe are still plonked on the floor wear I put them.
I have bits of shopping scattered over the worktops, that need putting away.
The floor DESPERATELY needs hoovering Blush Blush
I can't set my washing off, because I set of a load of drying earlier, pressed the wrong button and have accidentally set it to wash again! (washer/dryer) Grrrrrr...

So now I've lost momentum and am wasting time on here instead.

I've got to make a start somewhere. I'll get the hoover out.......
