Just wondering what people’s thoughts are on going to USA this summer? Would current political situation put you off ?

Its an absolute no for me while Trump is still in power. Not so much about concerns for my safety, i just hate everything he stands for and everything he is doing. So i need to make this small protest.

I wonder if people went on holiday to Germany in the late 1930s? Genuinely wondering!

They did. My grandparents did. Possibly with their heads in the sand. My grandfather had spent 3 years on the western front. And could not believe it would ever happen again. He was back in uniform in ‘39. There’s a fantastic book I recommend reading - Travellers in the third Reich.

Daisymay2 · 19/01/2026 21:16

No, won’t go again while Trump and his acolytes are in charge. I won’t support the US economy.

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · 19/01/2026 21:19

My personal morals would be what put me off.

Mh67 · 19/01/2026 21:30

We go to Orlando every year and this year is no different. I'm looking forward to it

My father is a proud American in his late 80s. He won’t even go there at the moment. He’s dedicating his life to outliving Trump so he can go home.

Brilliant! Good on him

nondrinker1985 · 19/01/2026 22:27

It’ll be fine but it’s expensive!

Well it won't be fine if trump invades greenland since then you'd in all likelihood be looking for a new holiday destination since we would effectively be at war.

TeenLifeMum · 19/01/2026 22:34

We’re planning to go summer 2027 but we have family there and are very white. I don’t think I’d risk it if we were black/mixed race or Hispanic. We will make the call nearer the time and maybe Greece would be a better option.

MerryGuide · 19/01/2026 22:34

Not worried away safely but they're not getting our money. We were going for elective medical treatment, in a red state. Would have been about 20k, no chance now.

Alpacajigsaw · 19/01/2026 22:34

Nope,’not whilst the current regime is in charge. Not just Trump, as I actually think he’ll die quite soon, but Vance and the other morons too

Isabella777 · 20/01/2026 10:40

We’re American and only going back this year to attend a family wedding. I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t want to travel to the US right now- plenty of us hate and have never voted for Trump but their are others who seem to live in an alternate universe and may only wake up when their own pocketbook is finally affected, so the less tourist dollars pouring in, the better.

Rufusroo · 20/01/2026 11:44

I’d rather have Trump than Starmer!

MegMez · 20/01/2026 12:01

No way. My BIL has cancelled his planned trip there for the world cup. My husband's rugby tour to the USA is being replanned for another country in another continent. I don't want to support an economy of a country run by a narcissistic, land grabbing, rapist dictator. There are so many other beautiful, interesting, safe countries to visit in the world.

princesspadam · 20/01/2026 13:08

We’re going next week and again in May
unless the FO advise against travel I’ll be going and I can’t wait

Widow90210 · 20/01/2026 15:02

We're desperate to go but won't for the next few years. While some might consider it a miniscule risk ICE operate everywhere. The shooting could have happened in any town in any street, that's not something I'll take my family into. There's a very real risk that they would change a policy or process with zero warning and leave you stranded or with an issue. When I travel I want to feel as safe as I can and know I can plan.to ensure I know how to handle what comes up, it's too unpredictable at present. Avoid.

Mumstheword1983 · 20/01/2026 16:46

We went last summer and I worried about the same. Had a fab time. Would go again this year if I could afford to. Florida.

Clearinguptheclutter · 20/01/2026 17:25

Regardless of the latest news in the media, people thinking of travelling to the US should listen to the latest Newsagent podcast about what is actually going on in Minnesota right now. Terrifying stuff.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 20/01/2026 17:30

Going on a family holiday in the spring; can’t wait

Rollercoaster1920 · 20/01/2026 17:36

We are going for a specific event that is only in the US. I am aware that my travel insurance explicitly excludes war, so insurance is void if things get that bad. I think the chances of that are very, very small.

I am annoyed at the additional cost to enter national parks to non-US citizens. I understand it, but I don't like it!

I'm hoping that demand is low so prices for things are lower, but also we are going when US schools are still on vacation so domestic demand will be high even if international tourism is lower.

lizzyBennet08 · 20/01/2026 22:13

I just don't want to give any money to trumps America.

Crushed23 · 21/01/2026 00:32

500 million people applied for World Cup tickets, with 80% of games being held in the States.

So there’s going to be no shortage of tourists in the US in 2026.

StrikeForever · 21/01/2026 01:23

I have travelled in the US extensively in the past. I wouldn’t go near the place now. I think anyone anyone who visits there in this Trump culture is either naive, or dim. Why risk your hard earned money, physical comfort and peace of mind negotiating US border control.

Flomingho · 21/01/2026 02:06

I think it would be perfectly safe to travel there and do sightseeing etc. I would still go if ai already had a holiday planned. I am just personally boycotting it as a holiday destination until the maniac president is no longer in power.

Maddy70 · 21/01/2026 02:12

Nope
