My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

ellands now under the trees and having a drink

We have been watching this all weekend, six of us sat there wih marmite on toast this morning watching baby elephants wallowing in the water!

We also think we've seen a water monitor lizard and ostrich, zebra's, crocs and some antelope type thingy, warthogs and a hare.

It has been fantastic, apparently it may have to close down (not sure why) but i really hope not.

We are going to recommened this website to the school my children go to, thank you so much, it's been brilliant (the kids have definately spent less time infront of playstation/x-box this weekend!)

Warthogs wallowing now! Hope it doesn't close down - it's gorgeous!

SueW · 02/10/2005 11:48

Did anyone see that dust cloud that just blew through, like a little whirlwind?

How did you find out it may have to close down?

RTKangaMummy · 02/10/2005 11:51

yes sue I saw it

SueW · 02/10/2005 11:52

Forget that. Found it on the blog. Will close in Nov for rainy season

SueW · 02/10/2005 11:52

How weird we're all sitting here watching the same little bit of Africa, live! (Wel I'm a couple of mins behind now cos I rewoiund for DD to see the whirlwind)

SueW · 02/10/2005 11:53

I should be out looking for decorating bits and bobs but this is far more interesting. Fortunately DD and DH in no hurry to go out either!

RTKangaMummy · 02/10/2005 11:54

I guess it will be flooded in the rainy season

And the animals move around and may leave

RTKangaMummy · 02/10/2005 12:48

RTKangaMummy · 02/10/2005 12:51

jacobsmummy · 02/10/2005 12:55

does anyone else have problems trying to download the video highlights?

It says it is downloading, then nothing......

SherlockLGJ · 02/10/2005 12:56

I suspect the camera is being operated at the moment.

I keep expecting David Attenborough to pop up at any minute.

Janh · 02/10/2005 12:57

LGJ, was that when it was looking into a thick bushy thing? I thought that too.

RTKangaMummy · 02/10/2005 12:57

see the ostriches chasing each other flapping their feathers

jacobsmummy · 02/10/2005 12:57

there are some links though to highlights from previous days, from the home page, but can't seem to get them.

want to see some giraffe's!

SherlockLGJ · 02/10/2005 12:59

Yes and then when it zoomed in on the Ostriches.

SherlockLGJ · 02/10/2005 13:01

Its all a con.

They are all on set up at Elstree, I just heard the burger van pull up so they are all gone out for a burger.

Earlybird · 02/10/2005 13:22

jacobsmummy - I can't get it either, but assumed perhaps it was something to do with my computer. Clearly not, if you're having same trouble.
