Africa Waterhole Web Cam

My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

BIG BROTHER with WILD ANIMALS

WigWamBam · 01/10/2005 18:10

Big Brother's always done with wild animals, isn't it? It's a bit like a zoo at the best of times

Love the webcam, dd was excited to see the baby elephants, but it's gone quiet now.

RTKangaMummy · 01/10/2005 18:12

I love it

I have it on side of screen

Zephyrcat · 01/10/2005 18:20

very dark tonight. last night was good with the nellies. Think the novelty is wearing off slightly with dd but i'm totally hooked!!

WigWamBam · 01/10/2005 18:28

We were just watching the hyenas - dd is captivated. Although she's disappointed not to have seen the crocodiles yet!

basketcase · 01/10/2005 18:52

finally got it working
what a brilliant webcam. Love it - thanks for the link roisin

Lucycat · 01/10/2005 19:52

Wow that sounds really impressive!! Just wish I could move the webcam myself!

katzguk · 02/10/2005 07:39

spagblog · 02/10/2005 07:54

ELEPHANTS! I have also heard people talking though! What is that all about?

katzguk · 02/10/2005 07:56

monkeys

Couldn?t sleep at around 4 am - switched it on and was amazed to see and hear so much. Still dark but would pick up hyenas and other animals. The animals calling to each other was quite eery.

Lovely to be able to see it in full colour this morning - just wish my DDs were as impressed as I am. Keep telling them that it isn?t like the telly, that it is really happening right now but DD1 (4 and a half) just goes "yeah, I see the elephant...can I go play with my leappad now.."
oh well. I am impressed by it all and nice to have on desk top corner while working

tortoiseshell · 02/10/2005 09:09

Loads of elephants on now - lots of babies - probably 20 elephants altogether?

SueW · 02/10/2005 09:13

The camera's poorly

Prolly being accessed by too many mumsnetters

roisin · 02/10/2005 09:19

So many elephants today! Did you see the baby struggling to climb out of the waterhole? He kept slipping back in, it was hysterical.

My boys were giving a running commentary as to what his mum would have been saying to him!

Have you not seen anything Cod?! Are you on the right site?

This morning we saw an ostrich, 2 zebra, about 40 elephants, a croc, a lizard of some sort, impala, and a bigger sort of antelope thing with big horns that I haven't identified yet!
