For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

6.2 is definitely enough for maths at Durham, if you were counting them in your 3.
At their open day we were told anything above a 5 will get you a reduced offer. They also said they don’t negatively count TMUA scores- so you could apply with the lowest TMUA grade (or none at all) and it wouldn’t influence them making an offer or not.. just they use anything above a 5 for the reduced offer.
I think they’re also often late to offer, my daughter has applied for maths there and waiting to hear too, so try not to panic yet :)

Edited

Thanks. This is all making me very nervous.

My Ds has only applied for maths and philosophy at Warwick, the rest are just maths. He's only just got interested in Philosophy...bloody YouTube.

bibliomania · 28/11/2025 19:39

Ha, dd loves philosophy. She's applied for Maths & Phil x 3 and PPE x 2.

We had a presentation at parents evening tonight and they said only 80 of their 240 Y13s have got their UCAS in to school (the internal deadline is Monday!) they're not going to be having much fun if loads of them all get sorted over the weekend!

Edited

that is an internal deadline though, and the point of that deadline is that it gives them plenty of time until the Jan 14th deadline.

Mediumred · 29/11/2025 12:53

Ooh, interesting all the love for philosophy! DD has applied for philosophy and english (it makes my head hurt!). She now has four offers - Bristol, York, Leeds and Sheffield - waiting on Durham. That’s her top choice but it’s great to know she has options.

Good luck to everyone’s YPs.

DC submitted it a couple of days ago although put Birmingham down instead of Warwick and had to go back and change it!

AuntyBulgaria · 29/11/2025 20:56

@Fabfabfab which subject is your DC doing and where else have they applied?

my DS is being very good at not worrying about offers where as I am not so laid back! I would like him to get a Warwick offer back as that's his top pick and it might help with his motivation.

I am feeling the same as you. Really want DC to get one offer before Christmas. 🤞 an offer will come through soon.

Yes same here, DC is feeling a lot more relaxed about it! Would be lovely to have some offers before Christmas. Has applied for History at Durham, Bristol, Exeter, York and now Warwick instead of Birmingham. Think Birmingham was a bit of of back up choice (I'm sure it's lovely but we've never looked at it as an option before) but Exeter will in all likelihood be the insurance as the grades are lower (AAB or ABB with EPQ) so hopefully no need to have another one (and DC loved Exeter when we went to the open day). What about your DC?

AuntyBulgaria · 30/11/2025 08:45

@Fabfabfab
Mine is going for slightly different combinations of maths with Economics/statistics/data science at Warwick, Durham, UCL, Loughborough and Birmingham (offer received from Loughborough).
He has to sit the maths admissions test in Jan so revision is supposed to be starting for that now his mocks are done.

We visited Exeter and thought it was lovely - it was on the long list. It was just a bit more awkward to get to than all the others.

Yes agree, Exeter is a nightmare to get to. We are near London so Durham and York will also be tricky. One of DC's best friends told me he wants to be at least 5 hours away from his parents so I guess sometimes being closer isn't what they want, just the parents maybe. Good luck to your DC!

Just found out that DC has had an offer at Bristol and York. Only put in the application on Thursday/Fri so that was pretty quick!

Thank you! DC applied for History. The top choice is either Bristol or Durham so really pleased to have had one of these through already! What about your DC? Good luck to everyone in this group!

Ds, who had no intention of applying for 2026 has suddenly changed his mind.
Any parents with dc who intend to stay/ go north?

Psychology here. Has 4 prompt offers now waiting for a response from the last one!

Offers now in for Birmingham, Loughborough and Warwick. Only Durham and UCL left and I can't see them coming any time soon. Also I'm not sure they are DS' top choices in any event.

So now time for him to knuckle down - tackle TMUA then go from there.

WOW, well done to your DC. Still radio silence here…DC is desperate for at least one offer.
Good luck to your DC for the TMUA in Jan. Mine is glad to have got it out of the way in Oct.

Fifiellz · 05/12/2025 17:44

We were waiting for college to attach a reference so only applied yesterday - received an offer already today so she is over the moon.

Fifiellz · 05/12/2025 17:58

@AuntyBulgaria Business Management and not a RG so maybe that makes a difference - less. competition

Not sure how north you mean, but we're in Manchester and dd has applied to Newcastle, York, Sheffield, Leeds and Liverpool. She's very sad that she already lives in Manchester as its 'the best' but wants to be at university elsewhere!

I have to say, I was at Manchester university this week and it does look great.

Yes, this is the northern areas I mean 😂. Ds has applied to Manchester, Newcastle, Lancaster, Liverpool. He wants to go Manchester.

My son has just got an offer for one of his three Bath engineering courses 😬 was not expecting so soon. I feel a bit sick now haha.
