For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

Had they sent the wrong details, thinking your DC was a Scottish higher student and had already got grades in hand @bibliomania? I’m glad the intelligible offer is through now.

My cousin’s daughter spent 5 very happy years at Glasgow and now lives and works in the city.

bibliomania · 27/11/2025 08:47

They didn't tell her what Higher grades she needed either, @Ventress . Good to hear the positive experience of Glasgow!

Satsuma55 · 27/11/2025 09:32

Ds application went in October. Maths.

Interview with Cambridge, offer from Warwick.
Nothing yet from Durham, Imperial or St Andrews.
Disappointing TMUA score 6.2. So it's not looking great.

bibliomania · 27/11/2025 09:35

Such a tough system, @Satsuma55 , that makes a high-achieving student feel insecure about his future studies.

Yep , that score is a surprise. I've heard it's in the top 20% , but I'm not sure. Still not good enough for his remaining 3 unis.

We are still waiting to hear…just one would be nice.
Maths here too, when did you hear from Warwick? My DC is disappointed that they have not heard from Warwick yet.
That’s a really good TMUA score. My DC got 7.8 was expecting higher but with the rescaling and lots of other super mathematicians it’s about right I expect.
Good luck with the Cambridge interview 🍀

@Llangewydd57 where has you DC applied and for.which course? Have you been waiting long?

My DS hasn't heard anything yet though his application hasn't been in long.

@Muchtoomuchtodo he has also applied to Durham, UCL, Loughborough and Birmingham

Hello,
DC has applied for Oxford, Warwick, Imperial, UCL and Durham.
Haven’t heard anything apart from the initial ‘Thank you for your application….’ and then a week later the ‘We have passed your application to the relevant department…’
I hope DC gets one offer soon so they feel more settled-especially as their friends are getting offers coming in now.

He heard from Warwick the week before last, I think...

following this thread with interest.
dd is year 13 and her application still isn't in. Just finalised the personal statement so now over to school.
To be honest I will be happy if it is in before Christmas

girlfromthesouthcountry · 27/11/2025 17:40

Just heard from Edinburgh, which is great, as was one of the favourites. Still waiting on St Andrews and Durham.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/11/2025 18:09

@Llangewydd57 I’m sure with such a high TMUA score your DS will get plenty of offers. The waiting is definitely tough though.

My dc has also applied for maths at Oxford, Imperial, Warwick, UCL and Durham! 7.6 TMUA. Not heard anything yet - it would be nice to hear from one soon!

It’s good to hear that your DC hasn’t heard from anywhere yet-makes me feel better.
That’s a great TMUA score too 🙂. Which Oxford college did your DC apply to?

SilverBlue56 · 27/11/2025 20:13

We had a presentation at parents evening tonight and they said only 80 of their 240 Y13s have got their UCAS in to school (the internal deadline is Monday!) they're not going to be having much fun if loads of them all get sorted over the weekend!

Jesus. How about yours?

Oh dear, poor teachers. I have been there having taught for 35 years…retired a year ago 😀

I’ll have to check, I think St Edmunds but I may well have got that wrong. They are at work at the moment.

We’ll best of luck to both of them 😊 Hopefully they’ll have some positive news soon and we can relax a bit!

Maths and philosophy.

bibliomania · 28/11/2025 07:48

That's what my dd wants to do, @Satsuma55 , although she's been limited in where she can apply by not doing Further Maths A-Level.

hanahsaunt · 28/11/2025 11:00

History at Oxford interviews have just landed - ds has one (though reallocated from Mansfield and doesn't know where to). All three in his class were pinged at the same time and thankfully all three have been offered which saves any awkwardness.

6.2 is definitely enough for maths at Durham, if you were counting them in your 3.
At their open day we were told anything above a 5 will get you a reduced offer. They also said they don’t negatively count TMUA scores- so you could apply with the lowest TMUA grade (or none at all) and it wouldn’t influence them making an offer or not.. just they use anything above a 5 for the reduced offer.
I think they’re also often late to offer, my daughter has applied for maths there and waiting to hear too, so try not to panic yet :)
