For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

Dd is very pleased to now have offers from Sheffield, Royal Holloway and Birmingham for geography. Her application was submitted just over a week ago. Waiting on Durham and Edinburgh, both of which I imagine will take longer.

Echobelly · 24/11/2025 19:10

Goldsmiths offer (DC's first choice) is through and it's a low one which means it's probably going to be there then. Having been very against him remaining in London, I think DH has accepted DC going to a London uni. In some ways I think it would be better to study elsewhere, but DC makes the very sensible case that he's already building contacts here for his ideal career (museums/curation) and I guess this is the place to keep making those contacts and do voluntary roles etc.

Llangewydd57 · 24/11/2025 20:43

Well done DC on all your offers. My DC is still waiting for one 🤞.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/11/2025 20:48

Where else has he applied to @AuntyBulgaria ?

AuntyBulgaria · 24/11/2025 20:54

@Llangewydd57 where has you DC applied and for.which course? Have you been waiting long?

My DS hasn't heard anything yet though his application hasn't been in long.

@Muchtoomuchtodo he has also applied to Durham, UCL, Loughborough and Birmingham

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/11/2025 21:06

Ah, DS isn’t waiting to hear from any of those @AuntyBulgaria .

He got his first 2 offers within days of his application going in, in mid October but nothing since!!

SilverBlue56 · 24/11/2025 21:13

My son has applied for three different engineering courses at Bath as he wants to go there so badly
Of course they are known for offering in March (or worse) 😬

AuntyBulgaria · 24/11/2025 21:26

@SilverBlue56 I really hope he manages to get to Bath - as that is showing some commitment!

In the last minute or two Loughborough have made an offer (DS' first and one of his favourites). Either someone is working very late or they have them timed to go out after hours as I think yours came in after 9pm as well didn't it @EducatingRosemary

Me too, there are other reasons (done lots of outreach there, close enough to home but far enough away, autism support..) I just wish they didn't take so long!

SilverBlue56 · 24/11/2025 21:53

I reckon they email them out of office hours so no one can ring up and ask questions, like school admissions on a Friday at 17:01 😅

I think DD submitted last week and has offers from Leeds, Sheffield and York. Not really expecting Bristol or Durham for a while though.

@MumOfLL what is your DS studying that he needs an intv for if you don’t mind me asking? Is an intv common outside Oxbridge or medicine? (Sorry, this is my first and only rodeo re uni applications)

My ds is studying computer science at Flamouth.
It is a great course, but slightly off beat, different to other computer science courses, and they interviewed all the candidates which I was pretty surprised at.

It really paid off though, ds was predicted ABB but actually got CBD, but Falmouth accepted them, based on that interview. He is thriving now.

temperedolive · 24/11/2025 22:31

DC1 has an offer at Birmingham! That's 4/5 - just waiting to hear about an Oxford interview now.

@steppemum May I ask you some questions about Falmouth? DC2 is thinking of applying there after gap year, but we haven't been able to visit...

fire away!

Cheers! What is the accomodation like? Is there a lot available for private rental in Y2 and beyond, or is remaining in halls an option? Are there decent transit links between the campus and the city? Is there decent pastoral support for YP?

Generally, is your DS happy and enjoying his uni years?

bibliomania · 25/11/2025 10:00

DD got quick offers from Nottingham and York, and a really confusing offer from Glasgow, which didn't specify which grades she needed and told her that she needed to tell them her results before she will have sat her exams. The offer came by email and hasn't appeared on UCAS. Not exactly encouraging with regard to their administrative competence and Lord knows they should be incentivised to improve that after the tragic result of issuing the wrong degree results not long ago. Still DD's top choice but I'm not impressed.

Also interested in Falmouth answers as DD keen on Exeter Penryn campus!

So ds is on the Penryn campus, which is a mile or so away from Falmouth, (uphill)
Student accommodation in the first year was very good, high standard, I think a lot of it is new. Ds chose accommodation in Penryn. Lots of walking and lots of steps up and down to the campus, but that is the same all over Falmouth and Penryn.
The uni has been really good. The Penryn campus is more the arts end I think, and has loads of studio spaces. Ds is doing computing, and went there because it has a games setup and lots of interaction between different disciplines. But has changed course to robotics.

For several reasons ds is not a very typical student, doesn't do night life, and fairly quiet. It took a while to make friends, but has now settled and has a great group.
The uni is very supportive, he asked getting diagnosed with ADHD. He is on a list for that but in the meantime uni has provided all the support that they would if he had a diagnosis, including some high tech stuff for his computer (note taking apps etc)
He is actually in his last year. Second year accommodation was hard to find, and the place he ended up in wasn't great. He is now sharing with good friends, but the house is really small and poky (and damp when the heating isn't on, but that is Cornwall). When I compare it to the places my older ds had in Nottingham, they aren't great. The issue with finding accommodation for second year was mainly finding a friendship group.

Buses between Falmouth and Penryn are fine, pretty regular. Ds took his bike but never used it because of the hills. He then bought his older brothers car, so that he and his friends could explore Cornwall a bit more.

Dinosaurdrip · 25/11/2025 15:27

Ds has had offers from Exeter and Lancaster and has an interview for Cambridge next week. Still waiting on Edinburgh.

EducatingRosemary · 25/11/2025 20:29

Warwick offer received today so 4/5 now received and the long wait for Bath to respond stretches ahead!

What subject?
My DC hasn’t had any offers yet, Warwick is one of the ones they applied to.

Llangewydd57 · 25/11/2025 20:49

Just remembered you previously said Law @EducatingRosemary

Ventress · 26/11/2025 09:22

DH and DS had a look at Penryn campus when we were down in Cornwall for half term. It was lovely. Too late for his application but definitely an option for clearing if necessary and if there are spaces on the course.

Well done to those getting offers and Cambridge interviews. Good luck for those interviews! DS is waiting to hear from Oxford but isn’t expecting to hear for another week or two.

In a way I hope DS isn’t invited for interview rather than rejected post interview. I think that would be easier to get over. But I guess I’m being very negative. He would be very happy going to any of his alternatives (apart from Warwick, to which he has taken a dislike for some reason).

bibliomania · 26/11/2025 09:54

Answering my own question re Glasgow - a more intelligible version of the offer has now appeared on UCAS, so all is good.

Thank you so much for the benefit of your insight! I think the course my DC is interested in would be at Penryn, but the truth is I'm a little bit frazzled with it all. I have two in Y13 and the one considering Falmouth is planning a gap year abroad first, so I've been focused on getting her sister to the open days and such as she wants a 2026 start. But the other won't be able to open days next year if she's out to the country, so we need to info-gather now! It really helps to have first-hand experiences from families!
