Will try to add old threads, maybe good for us to give an update of where our DCs are at

Oh that's great news @Miloarmadillo2. Congratulations to him!

Totally agree - it is a drawn out and very difficult process. Full of admiration for our kids who are also managing to put in the work for their exams along with all the worrying and checking TSR, UCAS etc all the time. Sending good thoughts and hope for good news to the group.

OnePinkCat · 05/02/2025 10:33

That is great news. Well done to him. It must be such a relief.
My son is also waiting and now gloomy. When was your son’s interview?

Nousernamefree · 05/02/2025 10:57

Congratulations to him @Miloarmadillo2, that’s lovely news.

Sounds like the interview dates for offers being sent is quite random.

Thanks! Yes he was feeling gloomy because others interviewed at the same time already had offers. Hope you get good news soon @OnePinkCat

OnePinkCat · 05/02/2025 11:22

Thanks @Miloarmadillo2
Yes We are in the same position as you were. My son knows a few people who had very quick Birmingham offers. I will keep everything crossed.
So pleased to hear your news. It’s so great to hear positive stories.

Miloarmadillo2 · 05/02/2025 10:03

Yay! DS has got an offer from Birmingham 🥳 No grades yet as UCAS portal not updated. The relief…..

Wow!! Massive congratulations. That’s awesome news 👏

CopingHagen · 05/02/2025 12:07

Congrats @Miloarmadillo2!

W0tnow · 05/02/2025 13:34

I’m pretty sure my daughter, who ended up with 4 offers, had none at this point last year. I hope that helps some of you to relax a little. I remember this time. It’s awful!

Groundhogday2021 · 05/02/2025 16:11

Same here as W0tnow!
This time last year DD hadn’t heard back from anyone except her 5th choice and she ended up with 4 offers, which started coming in from end of February onwards. It’s still early days but congratulations to those with offers and good luck to those still waiting to hear.
It’s a tough, long road but the end is almost in sight! Keeping everything crossed for you and your clever DCs. 🤞

maybemedmum · 06/02/2025 07:52

That's very kind of your to post @W0tnow and @Groundhogday2021 . How are they getting on? I think the application process is so consuming it's hard to imagine the next bit if they're successful!

Justlikingit · 06/02/2025 10:13

It really is difficult to look so far ahead, but at the same time reassuring to know, so far so good.
DD has her final interview today, so we can put those behind us and focus on next set of mocks.

Groundhogday2021 · 06/02/2025 11:19

The whole med school application process is very long and drawn out and if you include results day, it can take over a year of hard work, focus and patience! But I suppose it is a taste of things to come, as it is a very demanding course and an even more demanding career.

Dd is absolutely loving her time in Bristol. The med school seems very well run and she has already completed her basic life support course and Healthcare Assistantship. Hopefully she will be able to do some shifts on the wards in the coming months. It is a much more intensive course than her non med friends have, in terms of contact hours but I think she needs that as she quite likes the mental stimulation. She has joined a few societies, so definitely has time to play hard as well as work hard and the nightlife is fantastic by all accounts! 😂

Still early days I suppose but so far so good and she hasn’t regretted her choice for one second.

W0tnow · 06/02/2025 17:12

She’s loving it @maybemedmum . Aced her half year exam, training to be a HCA, has observed super varied and interesting cases, and has an active social life. Absolutely loving it.

ItsYourMoneyRalf · 07/02/2025 08:32

@W0tnow do you mind sharing who she got offers from?

sproutsandparsnips · 07/02/2025 09:36

DS had interview at Birmingham yesterday and had email to say they would be offering (but not what) today. No other offers so far.
I'm hoping this will give him the motivation to work harder now as I think he's not got into gear properly yet!!

maybemedmum · 07/02/2025 11:24

Great news, @sproutsandparsnips ! How exciting.

Lovely to hear that the class of '24 are enjoying their first year. Great to know there's (a hard work type of) light at the end of the application tunnel.

W0tnow · 07/02/2025 13:45

Not at all @ItsYourMoneyRalf UEA, St George’s, Queen Mary and Exeter. I think the St George’s one came through first, but that was the last week of Feb. Her IV was last week Nov. UEA and Exeter IVs were early dec. QM IV was end Jan. All offers in by end of march I think. She was dead set on a London university but did an about face last minute and chose Exeter.

Nousernamefree · 07/02/2025 20:33

Well done to your kids with all the offers starting to come through.

has anyone else’s DC’s interviewed at Birmingham and not had an offer?

Also this might be a silly question, but I keep seeing people saying their waitlisted - do they send out a letter stating your on a waiting list or is it just a generic holding letter?

thanks

sproutsandparsnips · 07/02/2025 22:10

@Nousernamefree DS's friend with very similar stats also applied, interviewed 2 weeks ago and not heard anything from Birmingham. They did say they would rank everyone after interview and offer end of Feb/March at the interview.
He's had interviews at Cardiff and Liverpool and not heard anything - they both said March.

OnePinkCat · 07/02/2025 23:03

Yep we have no Birmingham news - interview last week

JuMcGoo · 08/02/2025 08:15

DD received a Leicester offer yesterday 🙌🏻

mumsneedwine · 08/02/2025 08:50

This is the toughest bit. At the moment Unis are going through each candidate they interviewed and giving offers to the very highest and rejecting some of the lower scoring (& this scoring is no reflection on the DC as it can be quite subjective). The majority will either all have very similar scores and they'll look closer or the Uni is still interviewing and waiting to see who else comes along.

It feels so personal and it's tough as everyone around them (unless vets or dentists) has most offers. Unfortunately this will not be the only time in their medical career they are waiting around for someone else to decide their future.

You only need one. And in 8 weeks this will all be over. I'm keeping 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Sybill · 08/02/2025 09:50

Congratulations on all the offers coming through - mid to end Feb is definitely when DD started hearing back last year, so hopefully everyone will have at least one offer in coming weeks 🤞 @JuMcGoo well done to your DD - mine is a first year there and absolutely loves it! Happy to answer any questions, if you have them

Nousernamefree · 08/02/2025 10:14

Thank you all - DS is totally chilled about it all (luckily) but not sure I’m cut out to be a med mum.

He’s the only one from his school applying and we don’t know anyone who has applied / is a doctor and I can’t help feeling I’ve let him down.

im so in awe of all the kids we’ve met at the interviews and along this journey. There dedication and perseverance is inspiring. Well done to all your kids wherever they are in this process.
