Miloarmadillo2 · 19/12/2024 23:14

Hi - my DS has had one interview at UEA and has three in January (Sheffield, Birmingham, Belfast). Settling in for the long haul….

JuMcGoo · 19/12/2024 23:24

DD update:

had an interview at Leicester last week.
interviews at UEA and Manchester in Jan.
waiting on Liverpool.

Justlikingit · 20/12/2024 00:56

We are waiting on Liverpool as well. DD has had 1 interview SGUL. And has 2 in January just around her mocks.

mumsneedwine · 20/12/2024 06:05

I'm just popping on to say good luck. Lovely to see the interviews (& odd offer) rolling in. 2025 is going to be a good year

Mamadoes · 20/12/2024 06:36

DD has an interview for Birmingham in Jan, on hold for Bristol, waiting to hear from KCL and UCL. She's applied for deferred entry to some as that may impact the wait we were thinking?

Keepkondoing · 20/12/2024 06:52

My DS has had an interview for Cambridge this month, has one at Leeds and Sheffield in Jan and is waiting to hear from Kings.
These threads have been so helpful!

medprocesspain · 20/12/2024 07:09

My DS had an interview for Leicester last week, has Plymouth and Hull & York in January and waiting on Liverpool. Thank you for all the advice on this thread around strategic applications, not sure that would be the case without it.

maybemedmum · 20/12/2024 07:46

Checking in!
DD has had interviews at Newcastle and Oxford. Has interviews at Leeds and Manchester booked in for January.

CopingHagen · 20/12/2024 09:57

Congrats on the offers @HGC2, what a lovely way to head into Christmas!

Interviews here for Leeds and Nottingham in Jan. On hold for Bristol and waiting to hear from Liverpool.

Interview a couple of weeks ago for the wildcard fifth application.

Justlikingit · 20/12/2024 11:25

I have to echo the thanks to everyone regarding strategic applications, from help on here. DD’s UCAT score made her really doubt herself and had conditioned her mind to a gap year. She did a lot worse than she was doing in her practice over the summer. She was very stressed on the day. Almost didn’t even want to apply at all this year. Here we are with 3 interviews.
She said to me, yesterday, “mum who would’ve thought ….”
Thanks to @mumsneedwine for all your help and responses to my DMs.
We are still waiting to hear from Liverpool.
She has Notts and Plymouth interviews in January

mumsneedwine · 20/12/2024 11:59

😊 so glad when things work out. Merry Christmas- end of term is almost upon me. Gin is waiting in the pub ....

Niceday203 · 20/12/2024 14:25

Our update
DD has done QUB interview and has invites for Exeter, Leeds and Bart’s/QMUL
in Jan.
echo the the thanks of others here for the great advice and support
Best wishes to all

Optimum19 · 20/12/2024 16:43

The story here
DD has done interview for Belfast & has one upcoming for Leeds. Waiting on Liverpool & no word from Birmingham- so has possibly missed the cut there...

Happy Christmas to all on here and thanks for the advice & for just being here. 🍹

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 20/12/2024 16:46

So lovely hearing of all the interviews and the offers!
DS has had an interview at Sunderland, she has 1 at Queens Belfast in January and is waiting to hear from Keele still.

DD just told me she was unable to get a date in January for Plymouth, so it will be Feb for her.
so she would’ve had interviews, Dec, Jan and Feb.. Hopefully we’ll hear from Liverpool soon, the process really does go on. And they still have to focus on their actually academics

sproutsandparsnips · 20/12/2024 23:20

Like others we have yet to hear from Liverpool. Interviews jan and feb for Cardiff and Birmingham. Rejection from Exeter (lesson for what happens when you don't apply strategically - I did tell him the advice on here but he did not listen!)

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 23/12/2024 07:26

HI All,
I hope that the start of the holidays are going well.

I was wondering what levels of revision all the kids are doing over the holidays? My DD has been advised 4 hours a day with 1 or 2 days a week off

islaoo · 30/12/2024 13:55

Dd had interview for Leicester a couple of weeks ago and has Lincoln and Plymouth in January. Presumed rejection from Kent and Medway as she’s not been called for interview. Wishing she’d swapped out Kent for Lancaster or Brighton now as the ex BMATs went much lower on ucat than we’d thought they would.. but 3/4 not bad! thanks for all the advice here - we also thought we’d be in a much worse position after UCAT disappointment.

DD didn’t do much revision last week as we all had flu but is starting a few hours a day this week and she has her EPQ and PE coursework to get on with.. lots of things to take her mind off interviews anyway.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 02/01/2025 12:00

Slightly off topic, but for those with children already in med school or post med school, what are the holidays like for medical students?

DD is contemplating where to request a gap year or not. She feels if she doesn't she won't get a break and be constantly working.

Just wondering if the students do get holidays where they can actually take break or is it full on pretty much all the time? Constant revision in breaks etc

AsTearsGoBy · 02/01/2025 12:40

They can definitely take breaks during the uni years as well as once working in the NHS - just have to be sure to be on good terms with the rota co-ordinator and plan as far ahead as the system allows. DS had the whole of August off last year and went to the Far East, France, Italy and Greece.

AsTearsGoBy · 02/01/2025 12:44

SoTiredNeedHoliday if your DD really feels she needs a break then that might be the smartest move. Although in my experience Y13s often hit a low exactly now, straight after the New Year with mocks looming and the real thing not too far ahead. It's often worse if uni choice is still up in the air.

sergeantmajormum · 02/01/2025 13:39

First couple of years, she had couple of months in summer and 3-4 weeks Xmas and Easter but exams followed these so significant times revising. Latter years only a month in summer. It was one of the reasons she took an intercalated BSc which was coursework no exams and longer holidays. (Liverpool).
