Will try to add old threads, maybe good for us to give an update of where our DCs are at

Some unis may be waiting for people to respond to offers thus freeing up spaces to make further offers.
So if your DC's are sitting on all their offers then making a decision helps others.

DC is wanting to attend the offer-holders day before making a final decision.

I’m not sure it works like that. Some unis probably haven’t even finished interviewing yet and decisions are made after interviews are completed (with the odd top scoring candidate getting a fairly quick decision, I suppose).

Some may use a reserve/wait list but I’m sure in general the medical schools know how many offers to acceptances to make. It’s not a ‘one out, one in’ scenario in my mind and lots will want to attend open days to make choices, if they have them.

Well done to those dcs who have offers and best of luck to those still waiting to hear 🤞
This time last year my dd was still waiting to hear from all 4 med schools but then the offers came in a flurry between end of Feb and mid March. Still a few weeks to go, so keep hoping if you are yet to hear.

Ah yes.
DD3 went with older sibling (a recent graduate from same uni and closely related course) and didn't recognise a lot of what they were saying so beware

Miloarmadillo2 · 21/02/2025 19:10

I don’t think you can accept any offers until you’ve heard from all of them…
DS is still waiting for Sheffield and QUB.

mumsneedwine · 21/02/2025 19:40

You can. But if you firm and insure now you have to withdraw from the others.

Did they say the course had a different structure to that it did taking into account changes happen between cohorts? Or was it more frivolous stuff like saying you can do your placement abroad because a few years ago someone had contacts that enabled this? In any case the city and campus will be available for reinspection.

WeCantGoOverIt · 21/02/2025 20:06

I am not going to guilt DC into making a hasty decision.

mumsneedwine · 21/02/2025 20:16

@WeCantGoOverIt there is no rush, you decide when you are ready, Unis will have wait lists anyway.

2kidsand1dog · 21/02/2025 20:32

My DD waited until mid May to make her decision after the offer holder days - she held 4 offers from mid March but needed to make her decision in her own time - there is no rush and as @mumsneedwine says the unis keep a waitlist so no need to rush or feel guilty

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 21/02/2025 21:47

I think dd started rejecting rather than firming/ insurance because she knew places she didn't want to go before she was sure about which to firm and insure.

MaybeaMedic · 22/02/2025 09:54

Just checking in to see if offers have started - great news to see that many have started to receive them. Waiting for Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle here. Thank goodness for this thread - I don’t know anyone else in the same boat. Good luck to all waiting for interviews and offers - just the small matter of the actual A levels to go too!! Hope your young people are holding up ok.

Also waiting for Liverpool here. I’ve heard it won’t be until late March. Also check The Student Room for updates, I find it helpful.

Madmedic · 22/02/2025 22:14

All medical schools over offer so this idea of turning down unwanted offers will automatically release offers from the waiting list is really not correct. We will take our time. DD very fortunate to have offers from her top two choices and struggling to choose which one to firm. Very much hoping the offer holder events in March will make it obvious.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 23/02/2025 09:11

Medical schools do over offer but many also operate waiting lists as well. We kept the three front runners but rejected the fourth one early on. Rejected the third one after offer day (until then it was a serious contender). Then pondered the position of the final two. It needs to be the right place for your DD and I don't think anyone is pushing you to reject places but some schools definitely do drip out more places as people reject. They tend to be cautious in over offering too much because there are strict quotas per school.

@onemorehurdle huge congratulations. Yes, he can drop the 4th if not needed BUT let UCAS know. Otherwise on results day his offer will not be confirmed as they will be waiting for the result of the 4th.

He probably also needs to discuss this with the universities, as they have based their assessment of the apication on the number / subject/ predicted grades of A levels originally stated?

Justlikingit · 24/02/2025 14:01

For those with experience, SGUL in particular, do they send out all offers first, then send out rejections at the end of the process?

From memory, yes, I think they did last year. My daughter got her offer late Feb, from memory.

Dd just got offer from Lincoln. First offer , v relieved although it’s her back up choice . I know nothing about Lincoln really so would be grateful for any experiences..

Groundhogday2021 · 25/02/2025 09:02

Congratulations islaoo dd! 🎉 You must be so relieved! You only need one!
I don’t know Lincoln but hopefully someone on this chat will.

Wow! Congratulations to her. What a relief

Lurea · 25/02/2025 09:18

Congratulations Islaoo!

maybemedmum · 25/02/2025 09:26

Congratulations islaoo 's DD. Lovely to have an offer.
I don't anything about Lincoln, except that my cousin, who has been to an enormous amount of English towns in a bid to visit all the league football grounds, always says it's one of the loveliest towns in the country!

islaoo · 25/02/2025 10:03

Thank you everyone. I’ve found out that Lincoln has a tea shop and a fudge shop so I would be very happy to visit! I’m just not sure about the Nottingham degree but at Lincoln part and whether it means all the Lincoln students have to trek over to Notts a lot - but on the plus side accommodation is much cheaper in Lincoln. Will have lots of questions at offer holder day.
Lots of good luck to everyone still waiting - I’m sure the flurry of offers is about to come in now we’re nearly into March. Xx
