University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

Well done to your Dd!
I’m curious to know why she chose UCL of the London unis for law?
Still trying to understand why my Dd prefers LSE - she said something about the course.
I will do some checking, although ultimately it’s her choice but always thought that Kings and UCL were better for law than LSE.

We did the UCL and Kings law open days. My dd and I really liked both (I’m a solicitor with a law degree ) and she opted for Kings. She only wanted one London option and didn’t want to look at LSE.

Dixiechickonhols · 09/01/2024 07:03

@Maggiethecat what edged kings was they had an in person law talk (ucl was a video) and lecturer was very passionate about course and lots of options my dc was interested in. Their year abroad talk likewise was good as that’s what my dc wants too.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 09/01/2024 07:22

@Maggiethecat - she applied for UCL and Kings originally along with Cambridge- but didn't do so well on the LSAT. So switched Kings for Manchester who made an offer straight away.
I think she still wants to be in London though.

listsandbudgets · 09/01/2024 09:51

DD put her UCAS in on last day of term. Over the holidays she got offers for Cardiff and Nottingham and she should get an offer for Bath as she did their pathway program and was told she'd get a gaurunteed offer. That leaves Liverpool and Sussex up in the air but Sussex have told her offers will be late this year.

Still nervous as Liverpool is her preferred choice and either way she needs to get the grades!!

MommaZenZone · 09/01/2024 10:06

Big fat no for DD

listsandbudgets · 09/01/2024 12:06

@MommaZenZone That's horrible for her. I'm new to the thread so sorry for ignorance but where is it that's turned her down for what Sad

It's such a horrible process - when I applied you got a letter in the post ripped it open and knew what it said in a few seconds. Unless there was an interview, that was the only communication generally speaking. Now they keep sending random updates which come through as an "update" which can only be viewed by logging into UCAS and clicking all over the place to discover happy Christmas or thank you for your application we'll get back to you. Unwarranted stress.

DD's applied for Biochemistry rather her than me

PumpkinKnitter · 09/01/2024 12:53

@listsandbudgets Probably Oxford, I imagine - their offers come out today. My DD is also a would-be bioscientist, though she wants to specialise in neuroscience. Where has your DD applied?

MirandaWest · 09/01/2024 12:58

DD got a “no” from Oxford today. She has offers from Bristol and Belfast. Would be nice if Edinburgh could make her an offer but realise it could be a while yet. Also applied to Durham although she says she doesn’t want to go there anyway!

PaulAnkaTheDoggo · 09/01/2024 13:20

DS received unconditionals for Edinburgh and Aberdeen within three days of his application being submitted early November. Not a peep from the others.

Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Bath and Sussex.

School wanted her to try Oxbridge but she felt she didn't want the extra pressure that came with it.

Sussex rejected me in the mid 1990s - they were my first response and obviously I've not forgiven them - however if they make a decent offer to DD I suppose I will have to consider it Grin

PumpkinKnitter · 09/01/2024 13:47

@listsandbudgets Good luck to her! I hope she gets good offers from all of them. Clearly Sussex was very badly run in the 1990s 🤣

My DD took a very low-pressure punt at Oxford but didn't get an interview - no surprise as they only interview 1 in 4 for her course. She has offers from Exeter, Bristol and Warwick but is waiting on Edinburgh, which is where she would really like to go.

Lightsabre · 09/01/2024 13:55

Ds also a no from Oxford. He has good offers from Warwick, Bath and Southampton and is waiting for Imperial College. I'd like him to take a gap year really to get a job and travel a bit but he's not keen.

MirandaWest · 09/01/2024 13:59

DD has talked about having a gap year - will see if she says anything more about it.

catmomof3 · 09/01/2024 14:02

DD sadly has a no from Oxford, I'm sure she'll come home and have a few tears.

But she also has 3 great offers from Leeds, Warwick and Kings and hopefully soon UCL. If she gets rejected from UCL then Kings will be her firm with Warwick as insurance.

Silkiefloof · 09/01/2024 14:05

DD has first offer in from Oxford for E&M. Only applied to 3 so far, to hear from LSE Economics and Bristol and needs to think about whether to add 2 more.

Lightsabre · 09/01/2024 14:08

@WombatChocolate, we may need a new thread! Hope you are ok.

DD got her offer from Southampton yesterday for law. Just waiting on Royal Holloway and Surrey now.

WriterOfWrongs · 09/01/2024 15:01

@Silkiefloof congrats to your DD on the Oxford offer!

basilbrush · 09/01/2024 15:02

Congrats to all the offer holders! 🌟

DS has got offers from York and Exeter for Comp Sci. His two top choices are Warwick and Southampton but heard nothing yet and his other choice is Bath (I've heard they do gathered field and not to expect an offer, if any, till late spring?)

Southampton's website says they try to get offers back between 2-6 weeks unless you submit in January when a backlog builds up. DS submitted 11 Dec so surely this means that he should probably hear back within 2 weeks?

Warwick I don't know....

lizkt · 09/01/2024 15:14

Basil, DD applied on 7 Dec and heard back from Southampton on 5 Jan.

Think Xmas break is slowing things down a little.

basilbrush · 09/01/2024 15:18

thanks @lizkt

Rollergirl11 · 09/01/2024 15:58

I’ve just had a look at DD’s timetable for 24th and she has a free period 10-11 and then she’s finished at lunchtime. So hopefully she’ll know by 10am and finish college at 12.50 to come home if she’s feeling really rubbish.

worcesterpear · 09/01/2024 16:16

@basilbrush DD also applied for computer science on the same date as your DS and to some of the same universities. She has an offer from York, and is waiting for Bath, Southampton and Loughborough.

catmomof3 · 09/01/2024 16:46

So I know I hate hot weather but in a bid to cheer up my DD for her oxford rejection I've booked our Japan trip a week after she finishes her a-levels to try and help soften the blow from today. I know she's taking the rejection pretty hard especially when everyone in her school kept saying she was going to get an offer. Think that hasn't helped matters at all.
