University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

DD's personal statement is in 3rd draft status and with school to be checked and then she can hopefully get the application in next week.............slight curveball in that Birmingham has been replaced by Southampton which apart from Aberdeen, UEA and UHI is probably as far away from home as she could possibly get!!!! She's going about it the right way and looking at course content but I'm secretly hoping she either doesn't get an offer or we visit and she hates it 😆

Mymidlifegoesbung · 05/10/2023 17:56

I didn't realise offers came in so quickly, for some unis. Was expecting things to not kick off until next year so good to hear that we might find out before Xmas - does anyone know if rejections happen as quickly as offers?

Cambridge (Kings), Bristol, York, Leeds and Warwick for Law, waiting for school to finish application. I am v nervous that he has chosen all high level unis but he seems to think if he doesn't it make it has little chance of career aim (barrister) so will have a re-think. His personal statement was fab - quite quirky and showcased his genuine interest I think.

Fingers crossed gets one offer at least.

Livinghappy · 05/10/2023 19:21

@Mymidlifegoesbung, What are his predicted grades and when does he sit LNAT?

Mymidlifegoesbung · 05/10/2023 19:25

@Livinghappy sat LNAT on September 1st - predictions 3A*s and 8 x 9s and 3 x 8s at GCSE but realise that is only one of many steps.

Livinghappy · 05/10/2023 19:30

@Mymidlifegoesbung Good luck...think LNAT score will be the main factor.

Application in...hoping for quick offer but realise it's a long process until August.

Dd is finishing her application tonight! For Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, York. Really hoping for some early offers, to get her motivated to study.

Xarrie · 07/10/2023 08:36

I saw a Bristol offer on wiwikau a day or so ago but none of DS friends have had anything yet.

WobblyLondoner · 07/10/2023 11:32

DS mentioned a friend getting an offer from Cardiff yesterday. Nothing for him though tbh I'd not realised anyone would get offers this early. He's applying for PPE type courses with v high tariffs so I'm guessing he'll not hear for a while.

Hi all

dd school has helped her do an Oxford application. Apparently that has gone in but she isn’t sure on her other choices yet, is that normal? Can you add more choices in the next few weeks as long as ahead of the Jan deadline?

Headingto18 · 07/10/2023 12:49

Our school now has Bristol, RH, Birmingham offers - maybe others

Headingto18 · 07/10/2023 12:57

Imagine it will slow down again now until post 16/10

Yes you can add further choices. Strange not to have narrowed it down yet though, what subject is it for?

mondaytosunday · 07/10/2023 13:17

@Newgirls yes she can add universities up
To the January deadline.

Newgirls · 07/10/2023 13:18

Thank you Liz and Monday

good to hear! I wish she had narrowed it down… doesn’t seem to be in any rush

Headingto18 · 07/10/2023 13:27

Prob didn’t express that right - some of DC’s choices have emailed to say that they wont start making offers until post Oct, and then again post end Jan. And some people will get held over until post Jan but that doesn’t mean they wont get offers (nor does it mean they will)

Thanks for clarifying. I don't think we can bear to wait much longer . Although we have A level requirements, my dd math gcse wasn't great ( still a pass) . She also has an A level and gcse in cs so hoping it counts for something ( applying for cs with grades in hand )

Garrie · 07/10/2023 14:02

@sambamyty they've got months to offer/decline, some times people don't hear until late Spring. It's a hard wait.

F0Xintherainbow · 07/10/2023 14:11

Are these kids who took exams already?

mondaytosunday · 08/10/2023 00:54

@F0Xintherainbow mine has yes - she's doing an Art Foundation now. Her UCAS goes in Tuesday and I think she'll have three possibly four on it. We were at Exeter today and they said if you have the grades you're in, so hope having the grades at above the requirements at three of the four (different for Cambridge) she will get offers soon. Durham excepted, but then I don't think I know anyone who applied with grades so maybe from them too 🤞!

WombatChocolate · 08/10/2023 08:19

Lots are Yr13 kids who are applying with predicted grades - either early applicants due to doing Oxbridge or Vet/Med or those who’ve been keen or in schools/colleges which push them to get on with their applications.

mondaytosunday · 08/10/2023 08:26

Yes @WombatChocolate I notice on here so many already applying without the oxbridge/medical deadline. Maybe it's always been that way? I think they want it done and dusted before really getting their heads down revising maybe?

TheOnlyMrsW · 08/10/2023 08:32

@mondaytosunday that's us, school have some who are applying for Oxbridge and medicine so are doing their applications early, but are encouraging the rest to get theirs in too. They're spending a lot of time writing references etc and the sooner it's done the sooner they can get back to the day job!!!!
DC wants to get it finished so it's "off the list"!!!!

WombatChocolate · 08/10/2023 08:55

Yes, it’s time consuming to still be going to Open Days and as term moves on, homework ramps up and possibly social lives too. For some, UCAS and drafting personal statement and finalising the uni list can drag on for months and sap energy for other things or become stressful. Lots of these early applicants did most or all of their Open Days in Yr12 and drafted PS over summer.

But there are also lots who haven’t decided on a course yet or done a single visit and will still apply and get offers and start uni in 2024.

Did your dd decide to apply to Durham? As I mentioned before mine is studying sociology there so happy to answer any subject specific questions.
