University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

DD’s boyfriend has heard from Durham (sport science) which was quite a surprise as not expecting to hear anything until next year. He is still waiting for Bath though

catmomof3 · 14/12/2023 20:25

Any UCL English offers or interviews yet?

Any UCL English offers or interviews yet?

Haven't heard of any. At this point it a assume that their "interviews from nov-match" has become "Jan to March". U less there are lots of no. Mumsnet and TSR candidates who are gobbling the slots up already :-)

catmomof3 · 14/12/2023 22:07

@Revengeofthepangolins It looks like they only interviewed like 3 people for English if we go by TSR lol.

Myfabby · 14/12/2023 22:22

TSR makes me sooo anxious ;-(

DS received an offer from Kings today, he's just waiting to hear from Imperial and if his Oxford interview was successful. He also has offers from Durham and Warwick.

MommaZenZone · 15/12/2023 08:24

Question to anyone with a Durham decision: Can you recall how long it was after receiving the "We're pleased to inform you that we're now working on your application" email, to the decision dropping into UACS portal?

Jaxx · 15/12/2023 09:06

@MommaZenZone it sounds like they have sent a few emails this morning. My son has one titled “We're working on your application” and in the text
“We want to let you know that we're still considering your application” and lots of talk of the 31st January equal consideration deadline.

Rollergirl11 · 15/12/2023 09:11

DD has had the exact same email this morning @Jaxx. It says may take a little longer to consider you as we continue to receive applications but it doesn’t mean you won’t get an offer.

Bit weird; not really sure what to make of it. Sounds like reassurance but could just be standard.

Mirrormeback · 15/12/2023 09:20

@MommaZenZone

Durham took longer than Warwick so it felt like ages in comparison. Kings took ages 2 months from when the application went in.

Mirrormeback · 15/12/2023 09:22

At least a month I think for Durham

DD got a question about her module choices at the start of Nov and an offer this week.

Jaxx · 15/12/2023 09:27

Once the disappointment that it wasn’t good news wore off - I am now sadly trying to make out if anything can be read from it, particularly if there were different versions sent out.

Given we are definitely not expecting a Cambridge offer, good news from Durham would be gratefully received. We are waiting on UCL too, but he doesn’t want to go there even after a I said we would pay for first year in halls if he likes (but won’t pay rent for 2nd and 3rd years as it would likely be much further away than where we live).

Headingto18 · 15/12/2023 09:41

I had assumed the Durham email was the same for everyone who hasn’t had an offer yet? DD’s also headed “we’re working on your application”. we are taking it as a polite pre holidays keeping in touch email, nothing more

Rollergirl11 · 15/12/2023 09:53

Sadly I think you might be right @Headingto18. I think I preferred it when they hadn’t been in touch at all as DD wasn’t expecting to hear from Durham for a long time yet. You can’t help but get your hopes up or attempt to read something in to receiving an email like that.

Headingto18 · 15/12/2023 09:58

@Rollergirl11 agreed! I think DD had a moment of hope!

good luck with Durham. I do see his point re UCL. My DD absolutely loves it, fantastic uni, but we are shocked at the difference between UoL dorms (was circa £980 a month) and 2nd/3rd year accom is mind blowing. Single studio at Urbanest is £444 a week. (Non catered, exclusive of pocket money!) and the demand is crazy. London is crazy expensive!

lucky him! great slew of offers. fingers crossed with Oxford and Imperial

Revengeofthepangolins · 15/12/2023 12:29

@Myfabby don't think private halls in London are feasible for many U.K. applicants - they are targeted at rich internationals, of which there are many. DS1 and his friends (UCL 3rd year) are all in private rentals int he area north of King's Cross. Still dear, but not that bad. He pays £218 pw in a double en suite two bed flat 10 mins walk north of Coal drops, which is considered a bit of a steal. Friends (the "normal" ones) are paying from that to £380 ish pw in flat/house shares

mondaytosunday · 15/12/2023 13:23

Still waiting on Bath....😒

PumpkinKnitter · 15/12/2023 16:06

Still waiting on Edinburgh here. DD had an email today saying they hope to get decisions out by the end of March, but if they don't manage to meet that then early May. Eek!

They are doing them now it seems - my ds got offer from bath this afternoon (maths)

daffodilandtulip · 15/12/2023 16:52

Lancaster are keen aren't they? She had her offer a while back but she's just had a huge letter where they're discussing her personal statement quite specifically and saying why each bit would be good for the course!

catmomof3 · 15/12/2023 17:38

If my DD gets into UCL she'll do a year in halls then commute 2nd/3rd year as we live in Kent and getting the train will end up being cheaper than the rent. Same for KCL if she decides to firm there instead.

We will have the same dilemma if ds gets Imperial. He'll live in halls for the first year, at home for year 2 (Greater London) then third year is year abroad or in research and then 4th year in halls again.
