University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

DD hasn’t heard from them and she’s applied for a subject that allegedly has a test and interview. Interestingly UCL seem to have announced a test for some shortlisted CS applicants that is causing some mild furore/confusion as it’s only been introduced post application and now students are hearing there’s a cost of £124 to take it.

Great news @Puffypuffin and @Tiggermum14 🤘🤘.
DD has an offer from Leeds which has been the favourite for a while now so absolutely buzzing about that!!!! It's the highest one which is a bit daunting but we'll see what comes out of the offer days 😊

Thank you!

I asked, his impression is that he heard from Durham earlier than others in his year, although he didn’t ask specifically.

Good luck to all!

DD has still only applied for 3 for Economics / Economics & Management. Oxford has now had 2 interviews and entrance test, will hear on 9th Jan but only 18% interviewed so did well to get an interview. 1 in 3 chance now, originally 1 in 20. LSE don't send offers out until Feb onwards for Economics, just sending out rejections at the moment, they've had her application a couple of months and she's not heard so far. 1 in 20 get offered a place with no FM. Bristol she applied around a month ago, they offer 80%, but she has not heard and has special circumstances and Bristol are awaiting form from school as her lovely tutor is off on longer term sick leave. Then she said she's adding 2 more in January.

Revengeofthepangolins · 10/12/2023 08:56

The UCL CS thing is made further mysterious but the test being Australian, not on skills that seem very relevant to CS, and being sat in April, which is far too late. There was mention of a test burrows on the website pre oct 15th but probably not all summer, but not the outrageous cost. All very bizarre

Travelban · 10/12/2023 14:04

Maybe they want to put people off. It certainly worked for DS, who is thinking of rejecting it...

PandaPacer · 11/12/2023 07:00

Yes, apparently it is a verbal reasoning test and in the small print it says "for some shortlisted applicants". I wonder if it is to test if applicants can speak good English? It's all very strange....

FebuarySmith · 11/12/2023 09:41

Yes, I wondered if it was going to be just aimed at some international applicants as a basic language test. Which seems odd, given the English language admission standards anyway. Time will tell. The cost is surely prohibitive. If all 5 unis applied to hypothetically charged such a fee for tests, students would be paying out over £600. Also as pangolin says, April is too late in the day for everyone surely. Will watch with interest.

Travelban · 11/12/2023 14:18

I don't believe so as my son and a few of his friends received an invitation to this test and they are all British nationals in UK schools

DSandDD · 11/12/2023 22:38

My DS just got an offer from Bath, ABB in 3 A levels including Spanish or BBBB for Spanish and maths. He got St Andrews a few days ago AAB.

QueenMabby · 12/12/2023 12:02

@DSandDD - congrats to your ds. May I ask what subject?

DSandDD · 12/12/2023 12:25

@QueenMabby - Spanish and Italian with a year abroad. (Beginners Italian for Bath and Oxford)

mickmills · 13/12/2023 19:49

DD received Econ offer from Bath last night A*AA, was v nice after recent pre interview rejection from Oxford for Econ and Managament

TheOnlyMrsW · 13/12/2023 20:02

5 for 5 for DD, I know this is where the hard work starts but after a really tough couple of weeks having that "someone wants me" confirmation has made a real difference. Some offer holder days booked in and I'm starting a spreadsheet!!!!

Aah, well done to her!

Delphigirl · 13/12/2023 22:22

Great news @mickmills!

DS submitted UCA 9 days ago and has received 2 unconditional offers so far foe Dundee (selected as safe choice on UCAS form) and Glasgow- both for economics and maths.
Waiting on St Andrews, Edinburgh, Strathclyde still but was surprised to get Glasgow offer so quickly.

Congrats! I'm assuming he has his grades in hand?

Thanks and yes, you guessed correctly🙂, we are in Scotland so he sat his highers last year and is doing advanced highers this year.

Fantastic and well done to him! I hope he gets into the first choice xxx

daffodilandtulip · 14/12/2023 07:22

Durham seem to have had an early flurry. They've given DD an offer much lower than the others, at AAB for Nat Sci. It wasn't her favourite but now she's wondering if it should be her insurance choice.

Wronginformation · 14/12/2023 07:53

Bath offer here. Will be first or insurance choice.

Lightsabre · 14/12/2023 08:42

It's exciting to see so many offers before Xmas. Ds has an interview for Imperial in the New Year so is nervous excited about that. He's expecting a 'no' from Oxford (interview didn't go well) so this has boosted him a bit. Also has other good offers.

It won't be much of a Xmas break here as mocks start in January.

Rollergirl11 · 14/12/2023 08:45

That’s good news @daffodilandtulip on the Durham offer. Durham is the last one DD is waiting to hear from other than Cambridge. She’s not expecting to hear anytime soon but would be fantastic if she did.

GMH1974 · 14/12/2023 11:05

Has anyone heard yet from Exeter for Psychology? My daughter has had offers from Manchester, Leicester and Aberdeen so far. Also waiting on UCL who have said it will be after the end of January. I'm wondering if Exeter is taking the same approach.

daffodilandtulip · 14/12/2023 13:34

I know @Rollergirl11 , they have a reputation for being super slow!
